Detour

There is no food, service is mediocre, ambiance is like a cheap honky tonk bar. The drink prices were that of a high end hotel, but clearly watered down. It's unfortunate as I was looking for a good bar to plant my feet as I'm new in town. But this just isn't it,

We stopped in to try something different and we heard they play some good music.There are two sides to this place. The first is the one you walk into with a bar in the middle with a shuffleboard table and pool tables and the second room to the right has another bar with pool tables. Each side has restrooms. A DJ started setting up and the music he was playing was good! Everyone had a great time and we had fun with the shuffleboard table there. Definitely feels like it could be a "Cheers" type bar to the locals.The bartender on the right was super nice and attentive. He was ready to get us a drink. Not a bad place to meet up with friends. Only complaint is that it was a little warm in the bar on the right side.

Definitely a dive bar where most people seemed to be regulars. Mostly men and not very busy. Although it was during the mid afternoon. Peel was they have a giant tv screen the size of the wall and played the UT game with free tamales.

Courtney is festively pleasant, attentive, and just down right a bad ass! If I'm not staring at her amazing tattoos I'll be looking at......errrrr......ummm hair. Austin, if you want to have a great time without a dull bar tender, get hilariously harassed, made fun of and know how to talk back, this is your server.

Good place to go if you're trying to cut back on alcohol. 2 count liquor pour...what a joke! It wasn't just my drink either, I stood there and watched them do the same pouring other drinks. At first, I thought it was that one bartender, but after venturing back there a few times, I realized it seemed to be all of them and possibly a systemic problem, like bad management or lack of training. If that weren't enough, most of their staff are simply rude! It's like they hate their jobs or something, or maybe they're actually rich and simply don't need tips. I worked as a bartender for many years and from what I can tell the staff here are mostly poorly trained and have zero people skills. So, if they want to save money by pouring less alcohol, they can simply keep things the way they are and keep running off customers! Or if they don't care about breaking the law, they could simply save on liquor costs by diluting their liquor with water! So if you order a drink and want to play it safe, try one of their ridiculously overpriced domestic beers, or a better solution would be to simply save money and go somewhere else! There are plenty of good bars in Austin and this simply isn't one of them.

I don't know where to begin. I live at the Domain, and randomly came across this little gem. Courtney and Jordan (managers) provided OUTSTANDING service for my party of 3. They were attentive, kind, and went above and beyond to make sure my group felt comfortable. Definitely coming back!!!!

I love Detour, been coming for years. This experience tonight was ridiculous all the bartenders are usually great...this time a red haired woman bartender started a fight with me and then didn't want to serve me even though I only had one drink...Rude service from her! Everyone else was great!

So I came to detour and the bartender Paulette was very rude and had an attitude the entire time I was there. I saw her pour my jack and coke and it was less then a 2 count poor, I had more soda than anything. When My friend asked her why my drink was so weak, she rolled her eyes and walked away to the back to call someone on her phone. She did not come back to speak to me until 45 mins later, she continued to go to the back to sit on her phone and talk to other customers. She never once asked if she could remake the drink or even tried to make my experience a better one. I paid my tab and left. I do not appreciate her tone of voice or the way I was treated. Please reevaluate your staff. She does not need to be working behind a bar. If you're gonna be in the service industry...you must learn to attend your customers in a timely manner and with respect.

Wanna know how I became a regular here? I was overcharged A LOT on my tab (honest mistake) and Courtney helped w/the issue. While she figured out how in f *%:k to refund me, she bought me a beer, we exchanged stories of being the hottest & coolest Austinites you'll ever meet in this town. I ended up staying the rest of the evening and truly enjoyed myself. I love this place, the ambiance, the crowd, the music, AND bc it's the PERFECT environment for fellow service industry people to ESCAPE the normal spots that's are overwhelmed with out-of-towners. Yeah, it's pricey, you know what else is pricey? The f'n cost of living in this city, but what can you do? Detour is my jam! Courtney is the reason why I visit & have been for almost a year.

$9.47 for a Miller Lite (before tip)? at 4:50 pm on a Thursday? You've got to be kidding me. I'm beginning to re-think all those "mistakes" mentioned by other reviewers.
