Dan's Hamburgers - Austin

Oh my gosh I LOVE Dans!!! Lots of burgers and Austin. Lots of really good ones too. Dans is a classic though. And cheap! I 100% recommend Dans cheeseburger and onion rings. There fries are also amazing.Only thing I would change is how late they are open. Craving a mid night burger and unfortunately they are closed by 9pm.

For years and years, I've loved Dan's Hamburgers - specifically, their cheeseburgers and their curly fries. Although I've been hitting the location on North Lamar Blvd. more often (as recently as a couple weeks ago), I was in the vicinity of the one on Airport Blvd., where I hadn't eaten in three, maybe four, months, where a cheeseburger with curly fries beckoned me in.Inside, I found the counter staff were gone; there were things on the counter where there had been clear spaces for placing orders. A short, unfriendly woman told me tersely to have a seat and she'd be with me shortly. WTF?! Table service? At Dan's? I took a table, he brought me a menu, and I ordered, begrudgingly, because I was there and I really wanted a burger and curly fries.A tall man in white kitchen-worker garb, with his hands clasped behind his back - with the appearance and air of an orderly at a mental hospital - loomed nearby. He kept staring at me, so I looked back at him and made a gesture that signaled my annoyance with his unwarranted attention. He persisted, so I did it again. He then asked me, insincerely, "Are you okay?" I replied, "Just fine. How about you?" That seemed to deter his gaze for a while. However, he creeped me out by standing there, seeming to be waiting for an inmate to act-up so he could rush to restrain them.I got the impression that he and the waitress were husband-and-wife, and the new owners of the franchise, imposing their idea of how to operate a restaurant upon a Dan's; so out-of-touch (perhaps because they were foreigners) with how things are done around here.As I was just finishing-up the meal, the orderly came over and imposed himself on me, collecting my plate and silverware. I objected to his overbearing action, and he asked me, passive-aggressively, if I wanted the plate and silverware back. I replied, "I don't want to interact with you."This was one of the rare occasions when I've not left a tip for table service, due to a) my reasonable expectation of not having table service, and the obligation to leave a tip for it imposed upon me, b) the apparent new proprietors were such jerks, and c) because this Dan's, where I'd previously loved to eat, has been irrevocably ruined for me. If the Dan's on North Lamar gets bought-up by clueless foreigners and corrupted by table service, I'll stop eating there, as well, favoring the P. Terry's a few blocks up the street.

The food was good, but not great. I had to wait a while for my chicken tenders. The rest of our group ordered after me and their burgers and shakes were out well before my food. There's plenty of parking and seating.

I was looking for a burger place that wasn't a food truck and I found this place. The burger was hot, fresh and tasty. The veggies on it all tasted fresh and the service was very fast. The inside isn't much to look at but the burgers are fantastic. Definitely give this place a try. My meal was about 12.50 for a burger, onion rings and a medium soda

I seriously love everything about this place.It's got the old school greasy spoon vibe going. And, I love that!The employees are rad, sweet, and friendly.The food, OMBurger!!! So freakin' good. I got a cheeseburger, fries, and chocolate shake. The boyfriend got a cheeseburger and onion rings.We went with the small burger versions. Can't even imagine the big ones.The onion rings were perfect-O! Perfectly battered and fried. The shake was like an old-fashion malt with yummy chocolate flavor.THE BURGERS WERE SCRUMPTIOUS!!!Dare I say better than my beloved Shake Shack?!?There, I said it!Cheeseburgers $4.15...what?!?!My meal was just over 12 bux. Epic. Go.

Pretty solid! Got the small cheeseburger and fries. It's exactly what I expected, fast but better quality and taste than your typical fast food joint. Portions and prices are fair.

1st time here - we live in AZ.We all got a double burger different toppings-Delicious burgers and was hot!Fries done well and in fresh oil!Onion rings were excellent.Service was very fast!We are deducting for ambiance-Needs ceiling fixed, paint, and seats redone. Decor and interior needs quite a bit of maintenance.Tables are clean and well stocked.Unused Service area is an eyesore.Would not want to eat in again- which is a shame cuz it is delicious and popular!

Established 1975. Delicious hamburgers. Celebrating their 50th anniversary. Highly recommended.

Good homestyle burger at a reasonable price. Laid back atmosphere. Definitely gotta come by and try it.

Dans hamburgers is Austin's best kept secret. This place is so good and so cheap!!!! It's just a great classic burger and fries. The service is great too everyone is so kind there. I tried a spoonful of my friends milkshake and MMMMM it was tasty. Everyone needs to go experience Dans hamburgers!!!!!!!!!!
