Cooper's Old Time Pit Bar-B-Que

Definitely look at the menu before you go because the cafeteria line can be overwhelming. We weren't impressed with the chicken but everything was tasty. Their table setups are good for accommodating a messy bbq meal. We went midday on a Sunday and it was not too crowded which was nice. The food is pretty pricey though.

Good BBQ. Not worth the pricing as they have increased it due to popularity. Feel there are others that are just as good or better for a more reasonable price.Worth experiencing once.

I'm from up North, so this was a treat.We expect our barbeque to take a while to make, and the sauce to be sickeningly sweet. This place defied my expectations for Texas BBQ, I was absolutely delighted by the flavor from my first bite. Everything is super quick, there's a guy with meats at a counter, you tell him what you want, he hands it to you instantly. Mac n cheese is absolutely out of this world, perfect mixture of flavor and texture. The cornbread is fresh and warm.Needless to say, I left this place VERY VERY happy.

I swear I am not a big bbq girlie. But this place! Sheesh. It was recommended by a friend so we had to pop in. You start by choosing your meat just looking at the meat area you know this is real bbq. Then you go to the sides and there are plenty to choose from. Do not skip the mac n cheese. The chicken was huge and amazing. I had to share it was so much. The grilled corn was so good. Worth getting kernels stuck in your teeth! I regret not trying the banana pudding. Something tells me it would have put me in a food coma. We kept it light with beers and high noons. Everyone was very helpful with picking things out. If you like bbq go here! If you don't like bbq, this place with change your mind!

Yeah there are better bbq places in Austin BUT if you are stuck at the convention center and you have to take a group of folks to some place where everyone can find something then Cooper's is a great place. I like the bbq too!Unpretentious and common large tables--hey rub elbow with people. Relax. Go with it. If you want posh, this not the place. The bar has an even better vibe. Get your meal and sit there if you want a bit more privacy.I love how they cut the meat at the pit, and how that confuses so many people. Recommend the wet brisket and sausage, great tasty combo. My favorite part of the meal is the bean pot--get your pintos here, and white bread, and add peppers, onions, whatever you need. Add some of their great sauce to the pintos too. Perfect.

WOW! We were actually walking to another restaurant for dinner after checking out the bats at the bridge and walk right past Coopers. Looking in the door, we decided this was the spot to for dinner tonight. We grabbed a couple seats at the bar to watch the Sunday night football game and made our choices before getting in line. The ordering was super easy as you walked down the line. We selected some brisket and pork tenderloin. Added the Mac & cheese, green beans, pinto beans and cornbread. All had wonderful flavors and for two people, it was a bit too much. We did save room for the blackberry cobbler which was awesome. The staff were super friendly and helpful. The place had an old bar style feel with plenty of tables to seat your self. I have saved this place in my favorites for the next time we are in town. Make sure you check them out and give them a try. Enjoy!

Service - everyone was super sweet and helpful. If you haven't been in the rest before they have a unique method for ordering your food. They sell everything by the pound. Ribs- they were so salt. Inedible for me. I peeled over the outer layer and ate the inside meat. Brisket - it is moist and tasty. They were voted best in Texas/Austin in 2018. Sides are fine but nothing to write home about.

It's VERY challenging to know how much you're actually spending. Basically you learn once you get to the register at the end. It's shared picnic table seating, the beans are included along with the other bbq condiments. The picture shows everything got and how it is served on your tray. Found this place is pretty expensive for what you get and the quality of the food.

In town for a quick vaca from Detroit. I wasn't a huge fan of the service or the food. Came in one night and it wasn't very crowded so my bf and I decided to sit at the bar. The bartender absolutely ignored us. For 6 or 7 minutes. He served the people next to us, he chatted with a few more people, he glanced our way a few times, he opened a few beers and served people by us. But he would not even say - Hey, I'll be with you in a minute. I finally told my bf, I don't care how good the food is, I'm done, I'm not going to be ignored any longer, what is wrong with him. So we got up and left. He finally looked our way as we were exiting.But - 2 days later my bf still wanted bbq, so he wanted to try again (I wouldn't have done it). I don't really like the setup, and the meats were hellacious expensive, so in the end we got a half chicken to split and sides. The chicken was fine - but not awesome. The sides were really delicious. I like the green beans, my bf didn't. We also got cornbread and beans. They were good too. I wouldn't go back though.

Not sure why all the bbq places seem to close on Monday, but we didn't have many choices when we arrived in Austin. The family wanted bbq, and we weren't able to find any parking when we got to Terry Black's, and Franklin's was closed. We were near downtown and found that this location of Cooper's was open. We were welcomed by the bartender when we walked in and he explained how to order. It's cafeteria style, we go to the pit master and tell him how much of what meat we wanted. Then we go to the cold counter and order our sides (salads, cornbread, cobbler, etc.) and then pay. At the end, there's self serve drinks (pay at the counter first), and free beans, white bread, pickles and onions, etc. There are plenty of picnic tables to dine at, and there's a full bar if you want some adult beverages with your meal. We got the brisket, beef ribs, chicken and sausage. Food was flavorful and juicy. Sides were ok. My husband liked the cornbread, but it was a bit dry for me. Glad we were able to try some TX bbq!
