decent chinese restaurant that is hidden along guad. very convenient for ut students craving chinese food. the price is on the higher side around $16 per dish but the portions are on the higher side. both meat dishes that we ordered, double cooked pork belly and mongolian beef, had more vegetables/onion/jalepenos than meat which was disappointing. i went with two other people and we split three dishes, we were very full afterwards and had leftovers to take home. service was very friendly, the guy at the counter didn't speak much english but brought over our rice, extra plates and chopsticks.

Wanted to love. Was excited to try because my college friend whom I was meeting up with heard great things about this place. Yummy things especially their mapo tofu. So I was excited to meet her and try this place out. Especially because she told me they have parking too. On campus? On the drag? That's amazing! Upon getting there I found out parking is literally 2 spots in the back tiny alley but thank God one was open. Went in kinda like through the back door and truly a hole in the wall. Which is ok if the food was great. I am all for hole in the walls with amazing food. Upon entering you order on a kiosk and there is also a menu on the wall. Hard to decide because everything looked yummy. I am not a huge fan of Szechuan food and I fear it's leaning more to Szechuan once again. Ofc we had to order the mapo tofu. But couldn't decide on the 2nd dish. Not sure if I wanted numbing spice which I am sure many of their Szechuan dishes have. I read here dishes were big? What happened? And the lady behind the counter seemed legit. Didn't speak English well so I anticipated great food.Anyways I am rating this place harshly because the price is a tad high for the amount you get. In a small black bowl. The rice came in a to go box. Which again is ok if the food was amazing. Both dishes to me had a funny odor and taste. And I can't pinpoint what it was. Dishwater? That's the closest taste I can describe. Both dishes to me tasted like that. Something was in the mapo tofu that didn't belong there too. We took it out. The shrimp also had an odd flavor even though I am glad to see they were big shrimp. I just can't get over the smell and taste. The place was tiny cramped and a bit dirty. Again if the food was amazing I could probably overlook that. BUT my dishes tasted so odd it was a bit of a turn off. We met and ate and didn't love. Left and an hour or so later I got the runs :/ pure runs... sorry to be descriptive but surprise! I am ok lol had to flush it out :( Anyways had to rate it lower than I usually do. Sorry. Really hope they can make it better for the students here. I feel they can do so much better.

So good!! Was looking for a late dinner place after touring around campus and found this gem! They have a very extensive menu, so I just took the recommendations from the VERY nice staff. So easy, ordering can be in person or on their kiosk (which has pictures). We went about 35 min before they were closing and they didn't mind at all! Food came out fast, tables were available and cleaned quickly, and it was such an enjoyable little simple spot on the drag.I personally got the black pepper beef rice bowl and YUM it hit the spot! Saucy, fresh ingredients - I couldn't ask for a better Chinese hole in the wall

I ordered via Ubereats the fish fillet & tofu in spicy sauce and chicken fried rice.Their style is Americanized Chinese food - I was expecting more flavors and spices but the dishes ended up having a lot of MSG and soy sauce overall. The fish and tofu were drowned in a slurry soup with some hint of spices and the chicken fried rice is typical of American style chinese fried rice. Its too oily for my liking. The serving size is good though.I'm not sure if this place shares the same owner as China Family in Highland because I have heard good things about that other location but this one is just meh.

Super close to the UT campus and the AT&T Conference Center. Ambience: This is a rustic and simple restaurant. That is almost tucked away in the very back of an alley? Service: Self-serve your drinks and order at the Counter if you want to pay cash. The lady at the counter English is limited. My Chinese was limited and I had no cash, so I used the ordering machine. You order dine-in or take out. I dine-in. So you order and then sit. When your food is ready it is brought to you in plastic container and you are given plastic silverware. My plasticware was very thin and the fork started to bend trying to grab my chicken. I really needed chopsticks but it was starting to get busy and I did not want to bother her, so I made do with my fork and spoon.Food: I watched as other people's food came out, all the portion sizes are huge. I ordered traditional Sichuan Chongqing spicy chicken extra spicy. The last time I had this dish was in Beijing and I was having a craving. In Beijing they stuff the peppers with corn meal and fry them. Here they do not stuff the red peppers, but the chicken was cooked just like in Beijing. The chicken was crunchy on the outside, soft on the inside. Since I got it extra spicy, there were jalapeno bits mixed in with the dried peppers. I could taste the Sichuan peppercorns and then I got a small hint of numbing. I recommend that you shake the dish up prior to eating. I noticed that as I got to the middle of the dish, the numbing was more noticeable compared to the top pieces. By the bottom I could feel the heat and numbing at the same time. If I am ever in the area again, will eat here again and learn the Chinese word for more Sichuan peppercorn please. They also serve American Chinese food. I looked around and those dishes did not really look good, but the place was packed with people ordering American Chinese. I will say the Chongqing chicken is worth the higher price and as close to Beijing as you can get in downtown Austin.Cleanliness: below average

I ordered online for delivery so did not experience the actual restaurant in person. However the food was great with real Szechuan spice. I had the popcorn chicken and dan dan noodles. Quite delicious!

The reviews were good, but then I needed to remember that these reviews come from college students. I ordered the egg drop soup. The flavor was decent, but the viscosity was a little thicker than I like plus they don't have crispy wontons to go with it. I got spring rolls that were lukewarm and greasy. My main, chicken lomein was actually hot, but tasteless.

It's very reminiscent of classic Chinese restaurant that serves great tasting food that is rich in oil, spice, and garlic. However, I will posit it by saying that the prices are a smidge high for what I would entertain paying for Chinese food. The chongqing chicken was $18 and was more than adequately spiced. I would recommend making it extra spicy if you can handle the heat, but it surely packs a punch. My one critique is that I would enjoy more bits of chicken throughout the dish and a bit less fried pieces of nothing. The lo mein was good, a smidge bland, but serviceable. If you want a classic lo mein, I would recommend this one. Cheers!

Went to this restaurant for a weekday dinner. It is on campus, so street parking skills are required if you are coming from off campus.Truthfully, this restaurant doesn't look like much from the outside or the inside. It is all about the food here, which I do think is good. I ordered the garlic eggplant, spicy chicken, and combination fried rice. The eggplant is really good! This was definitely my favorite out of the items I got. The eggplant is fried and coated in this garlic soy sauce. I didn't really love the spicy chicken because the chicken pieces were SO small (pea sized?). The flavor was good but disappointed by how small and little chicken there was. The food also all came in to go containers and we were given paper plates to eat on, which I assume started as part of the pandemic. I've been to the other locations for the restaurant, and aesthetically it is much better but food is similar. A solid 3.5/5 stars for this restaurant but rounding up!

Best Sichuan in Austin. Service is good. Ambience sucks. Wish they cleaned up the interior.
