My husband and I came here for a pop-up Speakeasy. The location is not near much but is easy to find. There is limited parking but we Ubered. Overall the property is a nice venue and I can see this place having all types o events. Bonus there is a canyon on site.

Amazing! We had our wedding reception at the Charles Johnson House on June 4, 2016 and it was absolutely perfect! The combo of the indoor/outdoor space suited us nicely our big day. Suzyn was amazing to work with and all of our guest raved about the venue. I am so happy we chose the Charles Johnson House and I highly recommend the venue! It is perfect!

Loved the layout of this place for the Austin City Limits parties that we attended. Although, there were a few times that I felt like I was at a somewhat more sophisticated frat soiree. Parking was nearby and the front lawn area is large enough for substantial mingling, tenting, and booth areas. The upstairs lounge area is a fantastic place to catch shows too!

I booked this venue for my wedding reception and it was perfect! Beautiful exterior with a central location for all of our guests. We had about 100 people in the upstairs ballroom and there was plenty of room for a big dance floor. There is a private dressing area for the bride and groom and a big kitchen for the caterers. When we first decided that we were going to be having a reception I searched the internet for what seemed like three weeks straight to find a venue that was not charging exorbitant prices just for the building. I almost gave up because there are almost none in Austin!!! Then I visted with Suzyn at the Charles Johnson House and after our first meeting I felt like I could actually pull this off!!! So glad I found this gem.

I and my love had our baby shower celebration here this past sunday. The Hall was amazing our decorations fit perfect with the flooring and the space was the perfect size for the amount of people we invited.Plus the little "stage area" was great for our photobooth :)My family and I had an amazing time! The Kitchen came in handy to keep our fruit cold and for my fathernlaw to throw down in the kitchen. The bathrooms are right upstairs which worked out so great - since at no moment our guest had go up and down the stairs. There's was only one down... The cleaning fee makes no sense. You have to make sure trash and tables are picked up... well in order to do that you have to clean... so basicly you have to clean everything up. and your paying a cleaning fee for the Floors to be sweep...$150.00 just for the floors to be sweep.(Remind you the hall is that big at all, in our case that was the only room used and the kitchen) In that case we might as well have sweep the floors since we throw all our trash away and pick up the tables. Overall I do recommand the place! I had an amazing experience... and had great memories made here!Plus had no complaints on parking which we had around 60 people attend.

It's a shame Dallas isn't the caretaker anymore. Suzyn, the new caretaker, is the most unprofessional and combative person I've dealt with in years of throwing events.I threw a formal here in 2011, and it went effortlessly. My deposit was returned in full, and everyone was helpful.Fast forward to 2012, and Suzyn is in charge. She yells (literally, it's amazing to witness), whines, and wheedles. She charged us more than we were charged the year before. She doublebooks for the day of the event. She demands, insanely, that we hire cleanup crews for both the night of the event and the morning after. She is stunningly unprofessional, hard to get in touch with, completely disorganized, and just awful to talk to (did I mention she yells and whines?). Every step of the way she peppers conversations with, "Well, you don't want to lose your deposit!" She and her husband attended the formal- a charity for the Austin Children's Shelter- and helped themselves to our booze. We didn't find out until the TABC contacted us that they Legion Hall has a private liquor license- meaning that literally anyone serving liquor at all (even weddings!) is breaking the law. This is an amazing oversight on her part, and one that led to the TABC threatening to arrest us at one point. We hired the cleanup crew she recommended. She did a walk through, saying that it was fine (we spent $100 over the amount the cleanup crew asked to make sure everything was done to her specifications. The next day she said it was fine (it had better have been, as our deposit was $500 and we'd just spent $350 to clean it up).A month later I got a check for $250. I essentially spent more than my deposit. Stay away from The Legion Hall. It breaks my heart to say this, but until Suzyn is replaced by someone who is even vaguely competent at their job, no one should risk losing their money (and possibly being arrested!) by dealing with them.

On New Years Eve, a local booking agency hosted a New Years party at the American Legion. When we parked, I was surprised at how nice the venue was. The building is beautiful. The American Legion would be a great place to host a family reunion or a charity event. There are a number of multi-purpose rooms and a large manicured lawn with outdoor overhangs for used in the summertime. A very nice place.

We had our wedding at the Charles Johnson House October of 2017 and couldn't be happier with our venue choice! We held the ceremony outside and due to a unexpected cold front had the ability to move our reception inside and made that decision on our wedding day. The central Austin location, non profit element and indoor/outdoor space made this the perfect location for my husband and I. We wouldn't of had our wedding anywhere else! We highly recommend!

We coordinated a wedding here this weekend, and we're so pleased with how it turned out. We set up 26 reception tables outside, and it was so pretty with a view of Lady Bird Lake and those majestic live oaks on the lawn. The ceremony was held inside, and we fit over 200 chairs in the upstairs banquet hall. We could not be happier with the on-site staff and how friendly and helpful they were. The American legion is a nonprofit, so this place is a bargain. It's also conveniently located close to downtown.V and B EventsWww.vandbevents.com

We rented the Charles Johnson house for our wedding (ceremony and reception). We had the ceremony outside under one of the huge oak trees on the lawn, which is so beautiful that you dont need decor. We customized the second floor ballroom into a space that was us- thanks to the generous decorating policy they have. Our venue rep, Suzyn, was amazing from start to finish. She was available, even once feeling poorly, to meet us for viewings and to let us in/out on the day of. Vendors are familiar with the location and set up was easy in and out for our caterers and the band we hired. The industrial size fridge was great for chilling our beer and wine and fruit trays ahead of time. I'd highly recommend this venue for the great staff, the budget friendly price- especially for active duty military members and veterans :)
