Jeramy P. "We arrived 15 minutes after they opened in a Sunday and we're 7th on the waiting list. This had to be the busiest Indian restaurant I have ever been too. We got seated about 20 minutes later and the server explained all the specials. I opted for the Sangnam Special Grand Mesl because it's only available on weekends and it comes with everything. There were more dishes I couldn't get in the picture and some more under the dishes on the main platter. Everything was so tasty. Just a great mix of flavors, crabmeat, chicken, lentils, okra, and more. There was so much to try and new flavors to experience. Definitely worth the short wait."

I re-ordered from the nicest gentleman at the front for the 2 folks in my office (& of course I got something too). I ordered them the Fried Idli and Aloo Tiki and I got the Samosas and Mango Lassi. Everything came out hot, fresh and absolutely fantastic! The samosas come w this sauce made out of dates but it's sweet and DIVINE! I could have eaten the sauce solo it was so good! My mango lassi was also perfect consistency and just sweet enough. My staff enjoyed their food and said the fried Idli was VERY good! Hot fresh, crispy on the outside and pillowy soft on the inside. Please give this place a try if you're around! You will not be disappointed!"

The bussers might take your plate if you leave the table! The atmosphere transports you to a different era almost...it's so unique. I tried the fried broccoli, the Chana masala, the samosas (as everyone had suggested), the tikka masala, lamb, and the chicken biryani. It was all delicious! However, I did get very sick immediately after eating. I actually had to skip work to go upchuck at home. I would recommend this place for those with iron stomachs. Otherwise get there when the food is immediately served."

The spices all come together wonderfully and the rice was perfectly cooked (not mushy and overdone). The people who worked there were so kind and cheerful. We got it to go, but after going inside to pick it up and seeing all the dishes in the window, we definitely want to come back to try at the restaurant. We are excited to come back for seconds!"

Service was very good, no frills but we were seated in a small booth, and the menu and specials were shared with us promptly. We ordered the thali, dosa and a few appetizers which all came out quickly. I loved the assortment of my thali, South Indian dishes, which all were very flavorful and spicy :) It's the perfect pick for a gal like me who is very food indecisive lol. My husband's dosa was a safe pick for him on his low spice tolerance and the dipping sauces accompanied were all very well balanced too!Great find off of parmer, reasonable prices and swift to get food into you, what's not to love about Suprabhat? Tiffany L. "We've taken to go from here a few times and really like how they package everything so well to ensure no spillage! I am not super familiar with Himalayan/Nepalese food but glad Austin has this establishment to try a different cuisine. From what I can gather, everything is very flavorful and a bit spicy, despite trying to make dishes not spicy so just a heads up.Kothey Mo:Mo-I've had this once before and it was more circular in shape like a bao zhi and these reminded me more of a dumpling, but the taste was definitely different than a dumpling. It came with a herby tasting sauce/dressing on the side.Samosa-2 to an order, well fried, generously filled and comes with two sauces the brown one was sweet/tangy and the green fairly neutral and light.Gobi Manchurain-I really liked how these cauliflower tasted, pretty spicy but I couldn't stop myself from eating as I enjoyed the sweetness and the heat.Chowmein-A generous amount of noodles with your choice of chicken or vegetable included in the $11 or add shrimp or paneer for $1. The chicken was a bit dry to me but luckily I am a carb lover. The flavor is very different from Chinese versions as this one has a kick to it.Himalaya Goat Curry-Honestly, this was my least favorite of all the dishes as the flavor was just intense and spicy and way too difficult to eat and just overall unpleasant. It seems as if all we got were huge pieces of ribs/bones with very little meat and just sharp little pieces of bone. Most of the meat was really tough to eat but sometimes you would be surprised with a pretty tender piece. Tikka Masala with Lamb-This dish was a winner, and unlike the goat the flavor was spot on, some heat, sweetness and savory. The pieces of lamb were really tender and just a really enjoyable dish to eat, especially with the naan.Garlic Naan-I liked how you get two pieces, and enjoy the garlic flavor but think if they added even more garlic/butter it would be the cherry on top!Overall we enjoyed the food here and would def come back for everything we ordered sans the goat!"

Larry E. "Coriander:I am generally not a fan of buffets, unless someone else is paying of course. I have stopped by here in the long past, when it was a Brazilian restaurant and later another Indian restaurant. I was not really too impressed until it transformed into a new Indian style restaurant. They have a daily and a weekend buffet. So I have given it a few tries. I have had just about everything they have and it is good and this means a big positive from a non-buffet person. The food was under spiced for me, but would appeal to a broader customer base. The Butter Chicken was excellent as was the Saag Paneer while the Tandoori Chicken was a bit dry (in all fairness, unless eaten immediately after preparation this dish tends to dry fast). The buffet has a lot of typical dishes that you would expect in an Indian restaurant and not too spicy for someone who is not used to Indian type food that can really bring the heat. Next time I will order a specific dish on or off the regular menu so I can see what is prepared spicy from the start when I order spicy so as to make sure it is not akin to those places who just add some hot sauce after the fact. The restaurant and bathroom were very clean and the staff performed their tasks plesently and were quite friendly. I recommend giving it a try and also see what they can prepare individually. It is a bit tricky to get to on the access road, but is in plain view just as you go past. You may have to do a go around. Once you know where it is, zero difficulties in getting to the location."

Bayleaf Indian Restaurant & Bar

Bayleaf Indian Restaurant & Bar

★★★★★ 4.5 (164)

Eric H. "I was quite excited to try out Bayleaf, but I feel I may have been led slightly astray. My expectation for excellent Indian restaurants are for them to have superbly flavored dishes, no matter what is ordered. Unfortunately, dining in here on a Saturday around 1:30pm, this was not the case. While certain dishes we had during lunch had stronger flavors than others within the same restaurant, ultimately I felt these dishes lacked desired depth of flavor, and were quite one note.At first, I thought this might be due to user error. For many dishes, you can specify "how spicy" you'd like it prepared. The options are "Extra Mild", "Mild", "Medium", and "Spicy" and generally correspond to increasing concentrations of capsaicin at many establishments. However, there are a few restaurants where "spicy" does not necessarily refer to capsaicin levels, but actually refers holistically to quantity of spices and herbs present, not just chilies. After dining at the restaurant, I wondered if Bayleaf fell into this category. However, after taking some of the curries I ordered home and having them as leftovers the following day, I can state with certainty that the preparation of the dishes at the restaurant failed to optimize release of the aromatics of the spices. However, after an additional 24 hours sitting in the fridge, the curries were decidedly more flavorful than what was served at the restaurant. It would be preferable to have the flavor experience at the restaurant, rather than after 24 hours. We opted for Hara Bhara Kabob, Chicken Malai Methi, Scallop Pasanda, Badam Milk, and an order of Roti. For the pasanda, a spicy level of "mild" was selected, and for the chicken malai methi, staff recommended to get that at a "medium" spicy level. Neither one ended up lighting any fire beneath my bum or on my tongue. The Hara Bhara Kabob (appetizer) appeared to be cakes of whole spices, spinach, potatoes, peas, and herbs, served with a tomato based accompaniment. The cakes appeared to be deep fried to a dark brown, almost burnt color. While they were not burnt, it did appear that the cakes were cooked too long such that the aromatics were no longer present. Imagine taking a bite of one of the kabobs, and finding whole pieces of star anise and green cardamom in your mouth while chewing---yet alarmingly being unable to taste the anise or cardamom at the source. Aside from the annoyance of having constantly remove whole spice pieces from my mouth, the texture of the cakes were nice. The light dusting of spiced salt on top of them was pleasant, and the tomato masala dipping sauce provided a nice contrast. The cashew half in the center of each was a nice touch. Unfortunately, the cakes themselves were relatively bland. Both the Pasanda and Malai Methi were equally one note. The scallops in the Pasanda were delicious, plump, and pretty juicy. The Pasanda itself had a very nice intense tomato flavor and pretty creamy, but overall it was very one note in terms of spices. The 24 hour takeout version had a better flavor profile. They both came with basmati rice. The chicken in the malai methi was also well cooked, plump, and not dry at all. Unfortunately, the flavor detected in the curry was primarily creamy. While there were cilantro, green onions, and fenugreek leaves (and I assume other spices), all those took a back seat; overall the curry was exceedingly one note bland. I was disappointed by this at the restaurant. However, after waiting 24 hours, the takeout version achieved much better flavor extraction while sitting in the fridge and surviving a brief microwave nuke.Roti: This was user error, I should have ordered a chaapati instead. Anyways, the roti seemed naan-like, except not as soft. It was rather thick, not thin. It was large, cut into 4 pieces, and more on the chewy side, rather than being thin, soft, and easy to tear. It was drizzled with some fat. I imagine it was ghee, but it didn't have that aroma.Badam Milk: Milk, almonds, green cardamom, and I suppose sweetened with some sugar, the resulting concoction was quite thick--much thicker than milk or cream, and it had a great flavor, truly the only item ordered that had achieved a great extraction from the spices.Water served at the restaurant is served as bottled water. You have a choice of chilled or room temperature water. Menus are viewed via a QR code displayed on the table. However, ordering is done with the staff members, not online. Booth seating is available along one wall leading towards the bathrooms, while the remaining tables in the room seat larger parties. There is also seating off to the side near the front windows of the restaurant. The kitchen is visible through a couple of large interior windows.Unfortunately, flavor at Bayleaf is definitely toned down, both capsaicin wise and in terms of spices. This is disappointing.References for comparison: Chennai Tiffins in Mansville, RI and Dhaba Express in Parsipanny, NJ."

They're a beautifully delicious blend of spices with just enough of a gradual burn to get the adrenaline going a bit. Their Biryani is excellent as well, and the fried rice is good enough that I often get it as an entree when I'm feeling a bit more frugal. Don't forget dessert as well, the Lal Mohan (spiced fried balls in rose and cinnamon syrup) is like riding a wave of sweet and savory. The only drawback I've seen (hence the 4 stars) is that Aloo Cauli tends to be very watery when ordered for delivery."

Even so, they can still make it spicy!Their chutneys were sooo good also.It is also reasonably priced which makes coming back more manageable. The staff was friendly, welcoming and sufficiently attentive. We were greeted immediately and our server was friendly and attentive. We had two children and they were quick to bring over the high chairs we needed. This small detail earned them five stars immediately, so many restaurants treat children like an annoyance. Our server was great with treating them like people. As for the menu, it had a ton of options. I'm not super familiar with all of the items but it all sounded great. I got the chicken tikka masala with white rice and an order of garlic naan. The portions seemed smaller than some Indian restaurants I've been too but they were perfect for one person, I had a little bit leftover so nothing major. I got "medium" spice and wish I had asked for it to be a little spicier as that was fairly mild. That being said the flavor was phenomenal. The garlic naan was so so so so good. I was annoyed with myself for not having more space in my body to eat more. We will definitely be back."
