"Amaaaaaazing! The food is very tasty and quality. The service by Brook was excellent and the place is lovely."
"Upon entering you get the sidewalk cafe vibe. Always good music playing. There were signs warning of short staffing, but Kristin didn't miss a beat. She was patient , so cordial and accommodating. Warning my husband ( who has a shellfish allergy) that shrimp was cooked in the same oil as catfish. Word of caution to others. My husband ordered the old fashion meatloaf with gravy, savory greens, and not overly sweet yams. I had the "Homie Salad" with balsamic vinegar dressing. Let me put this out there folks. How do you feel about croutons? For me they are always "meh". Let me tell you, cornbread croutons, hit way differently. These "cake" cornbread croutons ( the sweeter cornbread), added such a distinctive touch to the salad. The chicken was crispy, hot and balanced in the seasonings to complement those croutons and fresh, fresh, fresh salad greens. They brew their own tea. And the rich, deep flavor ( not brown sugar water), comes sailing over your tongue. So refreshing. This cafe hits all the right buttons. Prices are friendly too"

"Vic and Al's is an East Austin Cajun hotspot located off Manor Rd. There is onsite parking in the front and the back of the restaurant, although it can be pretty tight and you may need to end up doing street parking in the neighborhood south of Manor. The food here is great - Cajun flavors at its core, and arguably not as heavy and unhealthy as one would typically expect. I think it captures an Austin palette well in being a little "healthier" and not too heavy on the gut. Ended up trying a whole spread of the menu, and would recommend any of the salads, blackened catfish, gumbo, etouffe, and red rice and beans. The portion sizes are moderate so you also won't be leaving overly stuffed. It's mostly counter service and also gets pretty busy on a weekend or Friday night. Expect it to be pretty packed with a good energy for a first date or group get together."
"I want to follow up on my 2star review a few weeks ago -- I returned to get a dozen of those delicious oysters (as good as the first time!), only this time I had a much better experience with the food. I had their seafood gumbo which was delicious. And also their catfish bites which were fresh and not greasy. So I guess avoid the fries and the salt n pepper seafood, both of which are very greasy. There are obviously a lot of better choices on the extensive menu. I'll be back to try a few other dishes."
"A new favorite spot for us to frequent now that we are near Buda. The staff was friendly, although somewhat absent minded with our orders. They made up for it with spot on quality food and drinks. They have an extensive drink menu and an above average beer listing, even if it didn't have anything for me. The restaurant has a nice vibe somewhere between sports bar and bistro."
"I'm surprised this place doesn't have a higher rating. We've been here a handful of times, and everything we've tried has been delicious. I love their shrimp poboys, but their Texan Steakhouse burger is by far the best burger in town! It's rich, salty, sweet, and spicy! The shrimp gumbo was also very delicious. They also have some of the best desserts in town. Don't miss out on the tres leches and the chocolate mousse. The service is great and pretty fast. I definitely recommend trying it even if you're not nearby, it's worth the drive."
"Mouton's is one of my favorites!! Great food from their scratch kitchen made to order. Ask and they can probably do it. Friendly staff and great daily specials. Lunch menu is amazing. 10/10"
"My boyfriend was in the mood for something different so I recommended we go to Mudbugs. We began our meal with the Calamari, which was a fantastic start. The calamari was perfectly crispy on the outside while tender on the inside, with just the right amount of seasoning. It was served with a zesty and flavorful creole remoulade. My boyfriend opted for the Soulful Seafood Jam, and it was an absolute hit. The salmon was cooked to perfection. The seafood jambalaya had a spice level that was just right, and the creole mustard Beurre blanc sauce added a rich, tangy finish that brought the whole dish together.I chose the Chicken Fried Steak Friday special, which you cannot find on the menu. The chicken was perfectly breaded and fried, and was served with mashed potatoes. The gravy was the cherry on top, adding a savory richness that made each bite comforting and satisfying. We also tried the Smoldering Longbranch and Embrace the Buzz cocktails. Embrace the Buzz was good but I highly recommend the Smoldering Longbranch. The service was a little slow for lunch on a Friday but the staff are very friendly and make some fantastic suggestions."
"Was on the hunt for some Louisiana-style seafood and I stumbled upon Louisiana Crab Shack located on Anderson Ln. first off, I appreciate the ample parking, and the actual business was pretty spacious with a lot of seating. Right upon arrival, we were treated very kindly to a table. The hostess was extremely sweet and accommodating to us. We got seated and got our drinks really quickly. I ordered a corona beer and my boyfriend got a strawberry margarita. The strawberry margarita was on the rocks and definitely a little more on the sweet side. We ended up, ordering the fried oysters as an appetizer, which were all right. i am not a huge fan of oysters, but the sauce that came with it which tasted like a spicy mayo sauce, was really good. for our entrée, we ended up going with the shack combo number one which we paired with the crab legs, shrimp and side of potatoes, corn, and eggs. We got the house seasoning mix as well as extra butter. Everything was brought to the table really quickly, which was really nice. We ended up going with mild for our spice level, which I thought we could've probably gone up a little bit, but I was afraid that even mild was going to be too spicy but definitely not here. If you are sensitive to spice, I definitely recommend getting the mild since it is the perfect amount of flavor, but if you're not that bad with spice, go for something a little more spicier. The shrimp was a bit tough, but the flavor was delicious. The extra buttered really gave it a little more flavor and I like that their house blend has a little bit of everything. the corn was absolutely delicious and the egg was the main star here.It was about $100 for everything we ordered which was not bad for the amount of seafood we got and alcoholic drinks but I think next time I will definitely amp up on the spice levels and seasonings. The owners came up to our table and greeted us. They were super polite. The overall custom service at the restaurant was fabulous. I have never been to a restaurant where I've been taken care of so much like this before. The owners got to talk to us a little bit about how they started the business and it was such a nice little extra thing."
"Not enough stars to rate this place 10 out 5... Carrie recommended the Cajun egg rolls.. I'd slap your momma for those again"
"Put this on your takeout list. Shrimp po-boys, etouffee, dirty rice all outstanding. (The shrimp even travelled well, which is not always the case.) AND you're helping keep a local, black-owned business doing their thing. Note: You pick up from the trailer out back on the alley side and there's no way through from 12th except walking a half block around, so may want to park on the side street if you're a delicate little flower and will wilt in the heat."
"If not the best wings I've ever had, top 3 for sure. Crispy, not dried out, and the dry seasoning was on point. Good service as well. Would love to see more of these around Austin. Incredible."

Wish I discovered this gem earlier. The French Quarter grille is one of my most favorite restaurants in all of Austin. Im an East coast guy so most of food scene in Austin is a downgrade but French quarter grille is light at end of tunnel. Going through menu was a bit stressful because all their entry items are so fantastic and hard to choose! Cant go wrong with any of the yoli dishes or catfish ponchatran. Tried the fried oysters for appetizer, classic New Orleans style. Dessert recommend bread pudding or orange crembrule

I went to visit my friend in Austin and we went to Y'all's. She said really good things about this place so I was excited! The entire restaurant is New Orleans based so they have Mardi Gras type decor and a tree that apparently stays there year round (I guess that's a southern thing?) It wasn't busy when we went and we had a large party. The wait staff were super accommodating which was really helpful because sometimes large parties can be a lot to accommodate. I got the fried fish that came with a seafood type sauce on the top. It was sooo good!! The fish came with two sides so I got cabbage and mashed potatoes the sides were okay in my opinion.

This place was awesome! Staff was super good vibes. Food came out really quick and was incredibly flavorful and delicious. My mouth was watering with every bite! Really cool interior design and decorations. Unique place for sure, which is always great to discover. Make sure you come here if you're in ATX.

We always enjoy our time here. The food is always high quality and we enjoy the live music. One of the few places that still have it. We live in Pflugerville and drive 40-45 minutes but it's worth it to us. We were celebrating our 32nd anniversary. Love it here!!

The food and service here are outstanding! Our server was friendly and very helpful in determining what I wanted to try. My shrimp poboy had great toasted bread with spicy mayo and crunchy shrimp. There was so much shrimp that they couldn't stay on the sandwich! The fries were very tasty, too. My friend's chicken fried steak took over his plate! He said it is one of the best he's ever had. The gravy was just thick enough.

Sometimes one can be fooled by a façade or advertising, thus robbing them of a wonderful opportunity. For instance, I'm always on the lookout for interesting culinary endeavors, in particular distinct cuisines like, shall we say, Cajun? So, when I came upon MudBugs website I was less than impressed & honestly when I drove past it, I couldn't see it from the street. Well, my friends while the website doesn't exactly inspire enthusiasm, the restaurant itself is far more sophisticated & worthy of a visit. As I previously mentioned Mudbugs doesn't have "curb appeal" as it's behind a store but when you walk in, the joint is rocking! I wondered in on a Saturday around 6pm & it was booked solid; luckily, I was able to belly up to the bar w/ a female companion. The facility has high, open ceilings, that of an old school train station so the noise level is more tolerable. There's a few Fleur-de-lis emblems hanging around, an homage to the namesakes' roots of the Bijou. The tables are elegantly basic, sort of the antithesis of many lesser chain restaurants I find to be fraudulently trendy. I don't like calling out individuals as a dining experience is a team effort but our waiter Evan was fabulous. He knew what to recommend, was personable, threw out jokes, was quick w/ orders & contributed greatly to the experience. Let's roll into the drinks, shall we?The adult drinking options are limited however they're crafted w/ finesse & care. The old fashioned was refreshing w/ a great balance of bitters & rum. The margarita had a nice tequila undertone w/ notes of lime & pear to round out the experience. My companion ordered the smoldering longbranch & I didn't sample this b/c mentally I can't put smoke & drink in the same glass & enjoy it. However, she assured me it was "ok."As for apps the crab dip wasn't to my liking & I must confess I'm a chef from Charleston SC, so it's hard to gain my favor when so many ingredients mask the purity of crab, especially when there's not much crab to speak of. That said I appreciate the various hatch chilis & jalapenos but it masked what I was after. Next up the calamari was near perfection. The green onions & calamari were expertly fried & the creole remoulade was flavorful but some of the "squid fries" wasn't to my palate. Long tentacles were cut like fries so texture wise I wasn't a fan. Overwise the dish was outstanding devoid of excess grease & a perfect chew. Finally, the wedge salad was pretty good minus two points. First Mudbugs, please don't serve the "core" of the lettuce as it's inedible. Next the balance off all other ingredients didn't match the shear size of the lettuce. If they had more dressing along w/ more blue cheese & bacon the balance would have been sufficient. Address these two items & another hit is on your hands. As for dinner I have made shrimp & grits in 6 restaurants, one of Michelin star caliber, so it's personal to me. I was weary reading the description of "sun-dried tomatoes, spinach, etc." What is all this crap!? They're ruining it! Well, I was wrong. The ingredients are blended into an absolutely amazing sauce to go w/ creamy & perfectly cooked grits & plump shrimp. In fact, my copilot liked my food more than hers. Regardless if you're a Shrimp & Grits aficionado or newbie, just get this dish and wait for Nirvana. As for my wine again no real French by the glass to speak of but the BR Cohn Cab was mellow, shallow legs and light while the Tahuan Malbec was somewhat forgettable w/ no noticeable fruits for the nose to sift through. The final plate was the salmon "Taterfish" plate. I thought it was a nice light dish w/ a crispy potato crust adding crunch juxtaposed to the tenderness of the salmon and the flavors of fish offset by the arugula forward salad with lemon caper butter. I thought it was refreshing but my company didn't like it. My suggestion is get it if you're hungry but want something light, a paradox I'm sure. The evening wrapped up & I'm very happy to say while I nitpick as critics do, I thought the restaurant was a resounding success. Although I didn't care for the peanut butter cheesecake or crème brûlée (both tasted off for some reason) there are so many positives to be gained from everything I craved. Don't be fooled like I was by a bland website w/ no curbside appeal. Enjoy great food, good service & creative libations in a safe area of town. Perhaps I'll see you there, I'll be the one w/ a smile, food and wine. Laissez les bon temps rouler! (Let the good times roll!)

"One of the lovely bar tenders recommended this spot as we were looking for a brunch spot that played hip hop, r & b and old school soul music. It was exactly what we were looking for! There is a live DJ playing all of the jams...everyone there including the employees were just vibing and having a good time, even some line dancing! The food really surprised me by how good it was. They were out of catfish but I know it was bomb... I just know it! I had a pork chop breakfast that was seasoned to perfection and tasted my friend's chicken and waffle that was also amazing. When I say I stuffed myself just cause it was that good. It was reasonable priced... good drinks and hookah as well. Hookah was a little pricey and you can only choose premade flavors. Would definitely go back."
"Great food. Great staff. Nice atmosphere. When the weather is perfect you can sit outside. Prices are really good too. Great price on the oysters, especially during the high season. I go a couple of times a year when I'm on that side of town."
"I had not been here in several years and thought I would give it a try again. On a Sunday afternoon there was no wait to be seated, and you seat yourself. I believe they have a staff shortage as most everyone else does but the service was pretty quick. It does smell like a seafood place in there so be ready. We ordered the gumbo and the Pacific Star Special which was several different fried items. The gumbo was hot, but required some additional spice for me. It wasn't bad but a little too watery. The catfish, shrimp and oysters were pretty good. The stuffed crab was a pretty dry but the hushpuppies and fries were ok. It all kind of tasted the same which is what happens when everything is battered and fried the same. Next time I will try the blackened versions of these and see how it goes."
"Terrible service! The server told us to take a seat but failed to mention you order online through your phone. The server was out a lot. She'd leave the restaurant and return 5 minutes later and then go missing again. We ordered our drinks through the app and she never brought it to us, we had to ask for them. We ordered a sprite but they didn't even have sprite there, just off brand sodas. You have to pay and tip before you can get your food. I'd go ahead and tip low because there's zero service anyways so what's the tip for?The food said it would be ready in 15, we got it about 30 minutes later. When the server gave us our food, she said one of our meals was out so we have to reorder... why was this information not provided to us 30 minutes ago. After another 30 minutes, the one order wasn't even ready yet so we left after we ate what we had been given already. The crawfish was really great but the service ruined this place for me. If you order from here just do take out but come 15 minutes after your said order time."
"Stopped in for lunch with a coworker today. We didn't have to wait long to be seated. There was plenty of patio seating outside, but we opted to sit inside since it was a little bit chilly. Scanned the QR code for the menu. I ultimately decided on the Shrimp Po Boy and a bowl of gumbo (chicken and sausage, I believe). Both were excellent. They did not skimp on the shrimp. I was on the fence ordering gumbo, but I'm glad I did. The restaurant was nice and cozy inside. The side dining room we were sat in probably had six tables. The main dining room had a bar with quite a few frozen machines behind it. The selection looked enticing. I'll have to stop by one day when I'm not working and partake."
"It took two drives around the strip mall to find this unassuming little food truck, I just assumed it was an unmarked FBI van the first time around. So if you are trying to find it, look for the unmarked FBI van. I ordered the lil' shrimp with "where's the water" spice and also the cool-aid pickle since it sounded interesting. Every component of the dish was cooked well, and full of flavor. It wasn't very spicy though in my opinion. I also wasn't a big fan of the cool-aid pickle. I didn't get full afterwards but perhaps I was just hungry that day. I do wish the location was better. It's tucked behind a sketchy strip mall and unmarked, with trash cans from the other shops dotting the area."
"10/10 service. Our waiter was literally the chillest dude ever and had such a great charisma to him.Very attentive and cool. We ordered the gator bites, catfish basket with hush puppies, shrimp po boy with fries and strawberry daiquiri. The daiquiri was STRONG AF. Not super frozen, but damn was that a strong drink. As a lightweight I took a couple of sips and it took me OUT. 10/10 worth ur money if you're trying to party. Shrimp was big and juicy, catfish was flaky, fries were crispy. No complaints! I'll definitely be back simply for the service and the food is solid as well. Will have to try more of their menu soon!"
"This was incredibly good. I got the Petite Shrimp with a potato and sausages, and then seasoned with the lemon pepper Cajun seasoning. First off, that seasoning is amazing and tastes great on everything, I was dipping the sausages in it by the end to get more of it. The potato was good of course. The shrimp was really great though, it wasn't soggy or mushy like some other places I've had around here, and really took to the flavors well. They were super friendly when I tried to figure out what I wanted, and even more so when they apologized for the wait due to all of their phone/online orders, as well as having to make fresh sausages (yum!). I didn't stay and eat on site due to needing to be other places, but there were a number of people eating their food under the umbrellas.I will absolutely be back, because for that price it was so much more than I thought it'd be."
"Had the Fried Shrimp and the Fried Catfish. The shrimp were really fresh, very large, and had a great flavor to them. The same for the catfish fillets, large and flavorful. I really enjoyed the parsley seasoning stuff that they put on the fries and on top of the shrimp before they were brought out, and fresh lemon juice definitely brought it all together. The music was a little loud for the size of the space, but I mean that's not that big of an issue. We will definitely be back, and she's excited to have another place near her work to eat at for when she does Lent."
"I love love love this place, everything we ordered was made with love and we can tell! The owner is amazing! Do not sleep on the grits they are the best I've had!! The shrimp was made to perfection not over cooked and the boudin balls were scrumptious and ever so tender my son fell in love with the wings and catfish paired with the red sauce. My husband was addicted to the catfish with dirty rice. And man that po boy was so soft and flaky #hurrybacknow"
"Delicious food and good customer service! We both enjoyed our meals and look forward to returning soon!"
"Fantastic food for the price. I had the smothered chicken and meatloaf. I couldn't stop eating the plate. The chef came out to greet me and ask about my day. Highly recommend."
"I got two things because I wasn't sure how their portion sizes are, and rest assured, one item is PLENTY. Their shrimp and grits were straight fire, perfectly seasoned, perfectly cooked with little grilled veggies ontop and they didn't skimp on the amount of shrimp. And I ate that the day after, I also ordered a po'boy which was more than enough for one meal. They're a new truck, so for the moment they have food until the ingredients run out, so show up early. I'm telling all my friends."
"I think this is a great Cajun seafood place. The potato does not have enough flavor, but corn and mushroom went well with the sea food. I also like there fish and chip."
"Nice Cajun cafe with live music some nights (have to check their website for dates/times).The music was local musicians and very jazzy blues. The staff are very friendly and provide quick service. We came for a quick dinner. The wings were good - the green sauce was better than hot. Wings were very tender and crunchy, loved this combination. The chicken fried chicken was very good, again very tender chicken. Fries were not the greatest. Side salad with their house vinaigrette or dressing was delicious.Dessert was so good, memorable! The pecan praline was so extraordinary! Enjoyable dinner, support small local restaurant /business!"
"Cypress Grill is a true standout with a bit of "Old Austin" vibe. Their seafood gumbo is absolutely fantastic! Perfectly seasoned and packed with flavor, it's easily one of my favorite dishes when eating out. That said, the word is clearly out about how great this place is--it's so popular that making a reservation is a must if you want to enjoy dinner without a wait. While the demand speaks to the quality, it can be a little frustrating when you're craving their neighborhood vibe on short notice. Still, the experience is worth the planning. From the warm atmosphere to the exceptional dishes, Cypress Grill never disappoints!"
"Turf N Surf is pretty expensive for a "po' boy" shop, but I do enjoy their sandwiches. They're pretty big! The blackened fish is very flavorful. They stuff their sandwiches with crunchy vegetables. And they have 5 or 6 hot sauces (these are po' boys, so I go with the classic Louisiana Hot Sauce). When I first visited, I was taken aback by the prices - all in w/ tax & tip well over $20 for most proteins - but the tilapia option was much cheaper, so I went with that. And I was not disappointed! I think blackened was the right way to go too, but they do have fried and grilled options. The blackened spices add a nice amount of flavor to the white fish, one reason why I don't think you really need the more expensive versions. The bread isn't noticeable, but it stands up to a fairly moist sandwich, so it does it's job. On top of the fish, is a heaping pile of slaw. lettuce, tomato, onion & pickles. Always served with lime, which is necessary to contrast the creamy slaw. Choose your hot sauce from the many options, and your tastebuds will be occupied for a little while They also serve 2 sauces on the side, but honestly, I don't really like them. I suggest ordering w/ out sauce on the side, they're not needed since you've already got your hot sauce of choice. The service is pretty quick, so I'm happy there. There's also never a line when I go - usually 2-3pm - so that's a plus. And if you have time for a pint, you're already right there in Lavaca Street Bar The interior is pretty dark & divey, but they do have a small backyard area, so if you need some fresh air, just head that way."
"This old post office definitely knows how to deliver. We started with the happy-hour sized seafood fondoo (creamy, cheesy, full of seafood, and heavenly, served with garlic toast), spicy catfish bites (so tender and delish) and calamari (review on that was also good, I was too busy with the fondoo). I had the sea bass entree and it was wonderful. The chocolate chip bread pudding was warm and sinful, so I only had a few bites.. but I will definitely get it every time I go back. All of the service was great. The manager even came to the table to discuss an allergy issue which was impressive. It's a beautiful restaurant! Definitely worth the ride from San Antonio."
