Stopped by for some sangria and snacks on New Year's Eve.The interior is stylish and cozy.We tried the spicy beef and chicken empanadas. At $6.50, the empanadas are a bit pricey, but absolutely delicious, especially with the chimichurri ! :) I would love to return for a full dinner. The staff is attentive and polite.

Nice staff, fire empanadas with chimichurri sauce, I recommend the carne picante and verduras. Also, absolutely try the lomito beef sandwich. The meet is tender and cooked to perfection. The atmosphere is cozy and walking distance to lots of other local faves.

I loved this place. If I lived in Austin I would be here ALL THE TIME. It's like a trip back in time to a late 90's early 00's South American inspired cafe. Everything was delicious.

Omg! Everything went well! We had all the empanadas which were magnificent! Great fillings and perfectly browned, flaky and melt in your mouth outer! I could have had them all by myself. We also shared the apple spinach salad and the sprouts, both were amazing. John our server was lovely. Place is cute and I can't wait to go back to have more of their food. Yummy!!!

Loved, loved, loved Buenos Aires Cafe! Delicious empanadas with beautiful, flaky pastry and yummy fillings. My husband had the tenderloin sandwich and said it was one of the best he'd ever had. The place had a nice relaxed vibe, a great bar with seating & cheerful, helpful staff. We'll be going back! I want to try some of their tempting desserts!

I knew I was coming here with a group of 10 of my fellow coworkers, which gave me plenty of time to read through dozens of reviews. The first thing I should point out is that they do not have a separate private room for parties, but there's a basement speakeasy accessible through a door in the back lot which is open Wednesday-Sat pm. The one thing virtually no yelpers pointed out was the fact this restaurant has no parking lot. Although I should mention, they actually do have a parking lot, but it's for their employees, not their customers. And since this is downtown sixth street you can forget any free street parking, so you can add a parking fee to your bill as you stroll through the litter strewn neighborhood to their front door. Many yelpers said there seems to be a consistent issue with the service level here along with pricing. Plenty of complaints concerning tipping as well. Fortunately, our group did not have any issues with these concerns. Although our server had no clue as to who ordered what when he brought out all the dishes. We started off with a selection of empanadas and grilled bead. The empenadas were the well crafted highlight, but the flavorless bread was like chewing on a sterile Dominoes pizza crust. The butter and bread oil/spice dip helped, but it was not enough. On to the main course....I had the 2 breaded beef cutlets which were so paper thin, they were invisible between the breading. I literally couldn't tell if I was eating any meat there at all. If there was any meat there at all, it could not have been more than 1 ounce worth. I would suggest you avoid this item on the menu (milanesa). The scoop of mashed potatoes were forgettably pointless and the greens were sadly the best thing on the plate. Definitely not something I would ever order again. Some things are better than others on the menu, but the flaky spicey beef empenadas are a win. Most of my coworkers seemed to enjoy their meals, but not everybody cleaned their plates. Two coworkers had their 6oz strip steak which looked puny and unappetizing, the disappointing churroskito....not for the meat enthusiast....another avoid. If you decide to check out the speakeasy downstairs in the evening, you'll find it to be an intimate space that seats about 20 or so people beneath a very low antique tin ceiling with a full bar. If I lived in the immediate area, I'd definitely try this place again and even visit the speakeasy, but it's just not worth the trouble coming from the burbs. Plenty of photos included for more information.Food 2-4 *'s, parking *, ambience ***, service ***1/2, total experience ***1/2.

This is a very cute spot on East Sixth to grab dinner on a date or with friends. The servers will answer any of your questions and make recommendations which are helpful when many things from the menu sound tasty. It makes for a great experience to start off with. The empanadas (carne suave and lentejas) were flaky and tasted very good. I also really enjoyed their steaks (churrasquita and carne milanesa) even though they were prepared differently, they both had great flavor. Their drinks were good too. I enjoyed the Mate Iced Tea. The only downside is that there weren't very many desserts left by the time we were done with our meal but that means they were probably good!
