Blake's was a pleasant surprise. We were on our way to Houston and had intended to have BBQ at City Market. Got there and the line was to the door. We were talking with the woman in front of us when a guy in a Trump hat cut in front of us with some blather about driving from Dallas. We stood there for a few minutes and he kept going on and on and we decided to leave. His presence would have ruined any good food. Went to Blake's next door and had one of the best chicken fried steaks we'd ever had. It was obviously fresh and had not come frozen from a food service. I had fried okra too that was very good. The rolls that were served had a nice texture with some whole grain in them. Salad dressing for the salad seemed homemade as well.

Very disappointed in the food. Use to be very good. $24.00 steak plate was so thin that they couldn't make it med! Potato skins looked lovely ke the day before with fake cheese. I won't be back!

If your traveling in this area, you should surely stop at Blake's Cafe to experience an older ambiance where you can feel the old west. The food here is reminiscent of old time cooking. The 1/2 pound hamburger was a cooked to perfection. Our server could not have served us better. Friendly atmosphere and ready to please all around.Right on Main Street, this old building takes a page out of the past!

Great little spot to stop for an early lunch and it happens to be right next to my favorite Barbecue place, Luling Meat Market. We opted for a variety of downhome foods with Blake's Cafe and I'm so happy we did. Great ambience, decor has a bit of history, if the walls could talk about all the memories, the stories would be filled with tales as old as time. The food was amazing, we both opted for hamburger steak with a delicious brown gravy & juicy grilled onions. Best fried okra I've had in a while. Lucas (our waitperson) was a little overwhelmed but he managed to handle professionally the small Monday late morning rush. If you open to pass through Luling, Texas top by Blake's Cafe, you'll be glad you did.

This restaurant is basically a wide open space situated in a rustic building with an old tin type ceiling. After you place your order they will bring you a couple of warm rolls on the house. However, if you want to start off with a beer, unfortunately, they have absolutely no craft beer other than Shiner Bock. The mushroom Swiss burger and the chicken fried steak were well worth what they charge. You really get what you pay for here. Check out the bill in the photo below. If you're looking for some good grub at a budget price while in Luling, this place should be on your list.

Came in on a festival weekend. There were 3 hostess staff and when I came in one of them acted like she didn't want to interact. Ordered a chicken tender meal and waited a long time. Breading was burnt in some areas (picked it off) and fries had no flavor and tasted frozen, no salt. Waitress was nice. Restroom-one toilet leaking with water over floor and other toilet partially broken.Wish I head saved my time and did drive thru.

Best steak I've had in a very long while! Everything was superb!!! Definitely coming back when I'm in the area again. People serving were friendly and on point! It feels like an old western small town restaurant. Loved it.

Had the dinner portion chicken fried steak with mashed potatoes. It was a good hand breaded steak, which is always better than the pre-breaded versions, the potatoes and gravy were all very good. Its a little too pricey IMHO, but it seems like just about everything is these days.

I was so excited to write a great review for this place I visited during a LARGE gathering for a special event. The food was fantastic. I did have to get up to ask for more soft drink while the server was just hanging over a chair talking to, I presume, another worker. As a server for over 30 years, I fully expected a gratuity to be added to the large table. I did not expect the terrible attitude from the wild, somewhat curly grey haired, shorter, lady who we never saw until the end. We did not get a bill to review. We were not told to go to the front to check out. (We are from out of town.) When we did go to the front and advise of what we had, and given our bill total, we were told that the tip was already included and asked is that OK. I always tip cash and I always tip well, being service industry. However, when a GRATUITY is added to a table over six, it should AUTOMATICALLY be 15%. and it should be calculated before tax. Without a receipt, I could not tell what was done at all. When I asked what percent THEY added to our bill, we were told 20%. I would have tipped more...but that is not the point. The point was that it was a large group and they were being shady about it. They were NOT TRANSPARENT and when asked if it was ok, my response was clear that it was not...I felt as if they were taking advantage of a large group of people when they should be glad to have new visitors in town. I simply said that it is customary to start with 15% rather than the 20%. And was told rather nasty that it was policy. I asked who made that policy, and I was told THE CREDIT CARD COMPANY (rather snippy and sassily) while I was holding a handful of cash to pay with. This obviously was questionable, so I said, " ma'am I am paying cash & I don't need your attitude, I need resolution". Then she said she didn't care. At which point I told I only asked a legit question and felt as though they were being very rude and shady about the whole thing. Rather than resolving the issue, she made it much worse by continuing to be nasty, rude, and mocking with sinister chuckles. I told her, "keep laughing, I'll be leaving a detailed review that the owners won't find so funny" she proceeded to tell me that I need to leave and am not to come back. At which point I called her a B and told her I didn't plan on it. I know my hair is silver/blue but my blood runs red. I did not APPEAR to fit the clientele standard of what their small town was used to and because I stood up for myself, I was treated like crap so I gladly returned the energy. I made sure to say "see you next tuesday" while walking out, never to return. If you are a good ol boy, you will fit right in, however if you come from a good ol boy and don't look the part, you will be met with rudeness and utter disrespect. Way to make everyone feel welcome! May karma find you whoever you are rude lady, and may she be a bigger B that you were to me! Have the day you deserve! I still gave 3 stars because I know that the establishment wasn't the problem, the employee IS.
