I'll admit I was skeptical about this place so if you're looking for some uppity Cajun spot please look elsewhere. As soon as we walked in the service we SUPURB! We were greeted and the owner gave us the history and instantly ran down the menu and made sure we knew that we could order what we wanted how we wanted it. I love a good po boy sandwich and that french baguette made me feel good all over. The crawfish was fried perfectly and overflowed the sandwich. The crawfish étouffée had huge pieces of crawfish and the rice was not over or undercooked which is often an issue at most places. The ambiance makes you feel like you're in the heart of New Orleans to a local bayou restaurant. I have no regrets and will definitely be back for the Big Easy party.

Poboy was loaded with shrimp. Crisp not greasy. Good flavor. Gumbo was tasty and satisfying. Beignets were amazing. (I was afraid they wouldn't hold up for delivery) I wanted the brownie but they were out. Guess I'll be forced to order from here again. ;)

If you are looking for yummy authentic cajun food, this is the place. Family owned and operated. It's a no frills Eastside Austin secret that is a fantastic find. They've got a full menu of Cajun food. Everything I've ever had has been amazing. Sometimes there's music as there's a stage and at least always music playing while you eat and drink.

We were heading to UT to pick up some tickets for the football game when we seen the sign for po'boys going down 12th st. We didn't even think twice and just pulled over and parked to try some po' boy the way they should be made. Lol it's a little hole in the wall, so don't blink and miss it. The staff is always friendly. Our server was Dara and she was a sweet young lady full of smiles and extra info not on the menu. It was much appreciated because there are 3 different gumbos & I chose the seafood gumbo (crawfish, shrimp & white fish). Everything was so fresh & so delicious. The food was spicy for me but definitely tolerable & bursting with flavor. The po' boys were stuffed & delicious. The popcorn shrimp is my favorite & never thought I would like seafood gumbo but this place definitely changed my mind. I introduced my sister to this places well, so now she has another great spot to go to for seafood. I'm sure we'll be coming back over and over. The place is pretty small but there is seating, a tv and even a stage.

Tip from a New Orleans native sent us here for some crawdads, gumbo, jambalaya, hush puppies, and beignets. After trying all those- we didn't have room to try the po-boys, but everything we had was solid and full of flavor without going overboard or trying too hard. The location has the dive bar vibe- but if you've been to New Orleans- that just adds to the authenticity and Nola Vibes. Go with a group of friends and get a big platter of crawdads or share a little bit of everything- the price is right and you can't go wrong no matter what you choose.

Put this on your takeout list. Shrimp po-boys, etouffee, dirty rice all outstanding. (The shrimp even travelled well, which is not always the case.) AND you're helping keep a local, black-owned business doing their thing. Note: You pick up from the trailer out back on the alley side and there's no way through from 12th except walking a half block around, so may want to park on the side street if you're a delicate little flower and will wilt in the heat.

My second time here and it's the real deal. Great food, strong drinks and friendly service.Down home atmosphere, neighborhood might seem scary to the millennial/hipster crowd but that's a plusDon't worry about "one-eyed" Willie hanging about....he'll bring your girl back soonSeriously though, just a great family run place that I'll support every chance I get. Much better that the chains and outsiders moving inCome on down for lunch, dinner they have live bands and happy hoursI've tried over half the menu and it's all fantastic! The food is actually seasoned and portions are perfect! Blackened Shrimp is so good I even eat the tails! Woooooo Eeeeeeee!!

Being from Louisiana, I've always been disappointed with some of the "cajun" food here in Austin, but today I finally found my haven for when I'm missing the taste of home! Big Easy has amazing cajun food that's affordable and indulgent, as it should be. We ordered shrimp poboys, hush puppies, and chicken & sausage gumbo which warmed my heart because it tasted just like my Mawmaw's. They are currently open for takeout behind the restaurant. I came after hearing they are repairing their restaurant due to a fire, so I wanted to show some support for this family owned business and I'm so glad I did. Can't wait to come back again and again!

Have not been to the Austin location but have been to the Giddings location. The woman that works there is awful. We won't go back. The bar decor is very nice though.

Got the Philly steak with no onions. Really good and folks were kind. Area was nice too, first time at "The Picnic". Fiancé doesn't usually like anything with red meat but she enjoyed the sandwich and seasoned fries.
