Had a really great experience at ALC. When we first planned to go it seemed like it would be a quiet night. That quickly changed upon arrival and it turned out to be a very full crowd. Luckily, the wait time wasn't long and the crowd gave it a nice feel. We ordered the crab cakes and sirloin soup for starters. The crab cakes were pretty good. The sirloin soup is their version of a beef stew and it came with rice and had a nice spice to it. For dinner, we had the steak with garlic mashed potato and the sampler sauces. The honey garlic pork chip with a baked potato. Their off menu item for kiddos (chicken fingers and fries) and the bacon truffle Mac n cheese. I also had a mocktail the strawberry spritz. Everything tasted great. I would definitely recommend this place for a date night or celebration. If you're looking for a more causal side, they have a separate bar menu and happy hour.

I came here with a large party and I absolutely love the ambiance of the place. It was extremely busy but our male servers were extremely attentive, prompt and professionally dressed and extremely attractive. Yall did great job there! We had a pre fix menu and I selected the southwest salad, my entree was the grilled chicken with creamy poblano sauce and mashed potatoes. The chicken was so dry and mashed potatoes needed salt but nevertheless I still enjoyed the food! Also, the appetizers were the stars of the show!! I was blown away it was so so good. The fried mushrooms, goat cheese stuffed poblanos, warm rolls, shrimp cocktail and lamb chops covered in hot sauce with the blue cheese sauce was incredible! Finishing the meal with the brownie pie was the cherry on top! Great work ALC! Just work on a nice marinade for the chicken so it doesn't come out dry please. Can't wait to come back!

An old school Austin classic steakhouse with a small, always-hopping bar, ALC is one of my favorites. The happy hour is the thing for me. The ribeye steak sandwich is, well, a beautiful small ribeye dropped on some bread with LTP. It's simple and perfect and such a HH deal at $13. The martinis, both Mexican and dirty, absolutely slap. And if you're lucky, Bo will be working and he is just the best!

Came here to celebrate dual birthdays (yay, us!) It's been years since I've been here and it hasn't changed at all. And it should. Our server was very loud, not the professional, well trained server I'd expect at a classy steakhouse. Strict rules about no burgers in the dining room, only in the bar, and unfortunately, that was what my dining companion craved. A chopped steak was not a good substitute, and my salmon was meh--way too salty and overcooked. They use their steak seasoning on the salmon and it wasn't a good match. The baked potato was served barely warm with waaay too much butter (and i like butter). The brussels sprouts side was the best dish of the night.Rather than a celebratory dessert, our server haphazardly and belatedly handed us a card (printed with signatures of staff members; there must be a stack of them and he just grabbed two) and a small container of their house-made steak seasoning (which, as I already pointed out, was not that great, as it is mostly salt). The whole experience was rather sad and a disappointment.

This place was pretty nice inside. Staff was on top of keeping our waters and drinks taken care of. We tried the buffalo lamb chops which was an interesting combo. The flatbread pizza appetizer was pretty amazing. Our main course with the steak and sides were good. Steak was cooked just right and lightly seasoned. The brussel sprouts had great flavor. I had mashed potatoes on the side and they were ok. I do appreciate how they don't over salt anything.

I'd rather not share this place, but it is one of my favorite old spots in Austin. The bar area fills up quickly during happy hour so there will more than likely be a wait. It also gets very loud in the bar area from the chatter, but it's worthwhile to wait. There is outdoor seating available, if you prefer. The staff is terrific, friendly, attentive and knows how to make good cocktails. We typically get the filet and a loaded baked potato. I don't know what they do to their baked potatoes, but they are addicting. Also, their enhancement sauces are so good. The Gorgonzola butter is my go to every time. It's a great place for a date, a gathering, or just for good food and good drinks. Parking is a bit limited, but I usually am able to find a spot. If you haven't tried, you are missing out on a piece of old Austin.

My review is perfect for anyone who seeks an intimate space with a limited number of friends to celebrate a particular milestone or event. Apart from a large dining room, they do have some areas set aside for privacy....but first.......This steakhouse is located right on Lamar Boulevard in a strip center just across from the tavern. It has literally been here for decades and is approaching 700 reviews. If you're coming here for drinks, the bar area is very small, cramped and loud. Now for the good news....I came here with many of my coworkers for a special dinner. They do have a private dining room for such events which will hold up to 30 people. Since there was so many of us, they created a special menu for our group. The first thing that arrived were baskets of warm rolls and butter follwed by apps of shrimp and fried mushrooms which were exceptional. The salad was also fresh and everyone loved their filets and sides. The quality of the filet was tender enough to cut with a fork. Even the salmon was properly prepared for a steak house. The service was on point by experienced servers. The brownie pie dessert was served warm slowly melting the ice cream and the berries and cream were super fresh. In short, we had a fantastic evening of food and wine with perfect service. Check out the photos below, which will only have you making your reservation.

Like Jeffrey's, this is a great decades-old Austin steakhouse that could easily be in so many other American locales, from New Orleans to New York to Chicago to California. Or more likely the great state of New Mexico, the Land of Enchantment, judging by its decor. In my latest visit, ALC's ribeye did not disappoint. Mouthwateringly delicious and without any chunks of fat. Just as enjoyable was soaking up, like Wink across the street, or BookPeople or The Tavern close by, a slice of old Austin.

Our visit to ALC was outstanding as usual. A reservation was easy to book and we were seated immediatly upon arrival. While the house was pretty full, we recieved excellent and prompt service from Brian. He has helped us on previous visits and really knows how to take care of folks We both enjoyed filet ALC style with Carrots, Asparagus and the Mac & Cheese. They have so many wonderful accompaniments its difficult to choose. I do highly recommend trying one or more of the scratch made steak sauces. ALC is located just outside of downtown with plenty of easy access parking. Its one of our favorite upscale dining options in Austin.
