West of the soul crushing I-35 and just across from the Whole Foods no one wanted, lies Austin's least kept secret: 24 Diner. As big believers in the idea that it's hard to mess up diner food, we were glad that 24 Diner was a step above what the average diner should be.The good: the food was pretty hit or miss, but it hit large when good and missed small when bad. The standout of the review was a French toast with citrus creme that just pulled all the flavors together into a fun and delicious breakfast dish. The biscuit on the side was flaky and buttery as well. The breakfast platter was solid (not a huge fan of cubed breakfast potato instead of traditional hash browns). The bacon lies on the softer side but isn't necessarily soggy. Lastly, the side of mac and cheese we ordered with the fried chicken sandwich (we'll get to that later) was absolutely phenomenal. The perfect amount of cheesy and crust from bread crumbs, just flat out delicious. The bad: when we say the food misses small we mean it. The chicken sandwich is extremely similar in taste to a Popeyes spicy chicken sandwich. While we do like the Popeyes chicken sandwich, it just feels unfortunate to eat something that aesthetically looks like an amazing sandwich but tastes like something I could get in a drive thru for half the price. The only other non good thing to be said about the food was that the sausage in the breakfast platter was a tad too salty, but to be fair to them that can come about from so many different things that we don't necessarily hold it against them.Additionally, the service was rocky. We called ahead to ask about the wait time for a party of 4 and were informed that it would be at least 30 minutes. We showed up 3 minutes later and were immediately seated. Call it a mistake or our inflated, aristocratic Yelper egos but we didn't appreciate that at all; to us it felt like they didn't want any extra people to come in. Also equally plausible that it was just misreading the occupancy, but I digress. When we were seated they rushed to get our table ready and forgot to include silverware, something they never noticed until we asked them to bring us some after our food had arrived. We understand that the workers are more than likely UT students trying to make a buck while being at school and we respect and don't necessarily blame them, we are just sharing how our experience was. It is also important to note that our food came out quickly and the waiter and others were friendly. The verdict: 24 Diner is a great diner that could use a bit of polishing on the service, but more than makes up for it with great food and a fun atmosphere. If you're ever around North Lamar be sure to stop by.

Sure! Here's a well-balanced Yelp review for 24 Diner:Had a great brunch at 24 Diner! The food was delicious, and the coffee was solid--perfect for a weekend morning. The service was excellent--friendly, attentive, and efficient, which made the experience even better.Their brown butter on waffles is to die for!The only small downside is the parking--it can be a bit tricky, but it's manageable.Overall, a fantastic spot for brunch with great food, great service, and a cozy atmosphere. Will definitely be back!

You know if an Austin restaurant snags a space in the airport, it's got to be good! 24 Diner lives up to the hype and is the perfect classic diner spot. The menu had a ton of options, almost too many if you can be indecisive like myself sometimes. Food: I got the classic breakfast which was great. I do wish the bacon and potatoes had been a bit crispier but I still enjoyed them. We got a waffle for the table which was amazing. It's VERY sweet though so a few bites was more than enough for me. Parking: We lucked out with a spot but it's pretty limited! There's a small lot right out front but it's shared by a few businesses.

I like to say 24 Diner is our place, Austin people's place. But 24 Diner is everyone's place. I've been to different states, and people have asked me about 24 Diner. So we have to share it! It's a one-stop diner that serves breakfast, lunch, and dinner with an impressive wine list. I started coming to the Diner over 10 years ago or more. I have tried almost every dish on the menu, whether it's breakfast, lunch, or dinner. The food is like a big hug from grandma's house that only grandma knows. But somehow, the Chef's grandma must've given him the recipe, and he was so kind to share it with us. It's that deep southern home cook meal; it's the grits, biscuits, gravy, waffles, burgers, porkchop, meatloaf, desserts, and milkshakes. Now, that's just the beginning of the dishes, but you have that nice hospitality, too. The staff is naturally friendly; they greet you as soon as you come through the door. No waiting around here confused; someone is always talking to you, checking on you, explaining the dishes if you are a newcomer. The ambiance here is very relaxed. You'll see the families with the children, the growing friendships, and new couples here because it's just an all-around great place for us all. Now, I did miss seeing the upside-down Christmas tree hanging from the ceiling this season. Side note: Since I've been here several times before and know how quickly the line forms outside and how amazing the food is, I came extra early. You will see in the pictures how quickly the diner filled up while I was sitting there. Also, the parking lot is small but mighty. Cars are constantly coming and going, so you will find a spot. Also, there is a lot of street parking.

I'm baaaack! LOL this time came in for lunch on a Friday at 11:30. Perfect timing because the tables were starting to fill up quickly. We were promptly seated and our order taken. This time I tried out the Buffalo Chicken Sliders with a side of Mac & Cheese. The sliders were so tasty and had a nice crunch to them too. The Mac & Cheese wasn't bad, but not my favorite. I'll probably try. A different side next time. Love the pairing with Bleu Cheese for dipping since that's usually my go to dip. Absolutely love that every time I come here when I ask for hot sauce they have a large variety. Cholula, Tabasco, Sriracha or Yellowbird Habanero. They have it all! My fav is the Habanero. Oh and also their whole breakfast, lunch and dinner menu is always available.

Impromptu stop at 24 Diner and it did not disappoint!! Our server was sooooo nice! She recommended the meatloaf and said, "I know it's a bit weird...but we are known for having some amazing meatloaf!" Soooo, we had to try it. Best decision ever! Omg KISS THE CHEF FOR ME PLEASE!!! Meatloaf on top, mashed potatoes and collard greens on the bottom...like whaaaaat!!! Delicioso if you're on the fence of trying this spot just go for it!!! ***The only con is that parking is very limited and it's a wait to be seated***

A struggle to review this one...Starting with the positive. Service was on point, and Lyndsey made sure to provide us with all we need. Without asking, she set our table with a side of ketchup, jam, butter, and waters. Coffee was always filled! Someone, who I believe was either the head chef or manager, came out to check on all tables. Always a plus, connecting with members of the establishment! Ambiance is as you expect, diner feels with modern touches. On to the food. The menu definitely excited the eyes. While it was a slight bummer to learn the Eggs Benedict is only served on the weekends (and available until running out), I had a number of selections that caught my eye. The Breakfast Plate is offered at a discount of $10 (instead of $16) if ordering Early Bird. The bacon, although ordered crispy, was just sad. The fruit cup seemed old, or perhaps using frozen fruit that's thawed out. The breakfast sausage in the hash was nothing special, and could have easily been crumbled with jimmy dean breakfast sausage. On one hand, yes, this is a diner - so expectations are as such. On the other hand, prices are definitely inflated (again, understanding this is basically downtown), and don't align with quality. I don't expect to return, but I'm happy that I experienced this Austin staple.

The food is a strong 3.5 in quality but portions is a 4! Huge. fries were great but steak was a bit tough. Service was super nice but just a little slow though our fault for choosing to sit outside when they weren't really serving outside. The menu had a good selection and can't go wrong. Love the elevated diner vibes

Classic comfort food & great service! We got the biscuits and gravy, and the 24 hash. The jalapeños were not spicy in it. The serving was so big I took a box home of the hash!
