In Korean cuisine, a popular food is the glutinous-rice cake called Tteok. This item is usually eaten in one of two ways. It can either be savory (in which case it is usually cooked with more flavorful items, as in Tteokbokki where it is stir-fried with Kochujang [chili/soybean paste], noodles, fish cakes, etc). Or, it can be sweet (in which case it generally has some sort of coating, flavoring or filling). Dah Won, in the same Havana Street stripmall as Tana Grocery (see previous review) focuses primarily on the latter version but also offers up some plain varieties of tteok to use in your favorite recipes. Their cakes are a variety of fluorescent colors, and can be coated with chestnut or acorn flour, filled with bean paste, or stuffed with nuts or other delights. Let the friendly couple behind the counter tell you what's good today. My all-time favorite is Ggul-tteok which stuffs white, green and pink cakes with a sweet honey-sesame filling. Fantastic! So pop down to Dah Won. We know when you try their tteok, you'll want to eat your entire order at once (which is good because the longer any tteok (not just Dah Won's) sits, the more it starts to resemble a doorstop).PS Dah Won's hours can be unpredictable but they usually do not stay open very late. So no, you cannot go have drinkies at Havana Cafe (the very loud Korean nightclub in the corner of the stripmall) after your purchase. But you can have some yummy fish a couple doors down at Sushi Katsu, or check out the tasty Korean baked goods right next door to Dah Won, at Paris Baguette!

The last time I went here it was already CLOSED, late in the evening. This recent visit was on Saturday May 31st 2014. Time was about 15:40hrs ish. Yes 3 stars sum up for the Rice Cakes from this establishment. Since I was crunch with time with other errands and commitments, I decide to purchase several items from this Bakery. When I came almost about closing time, there weren't a lot of items for purchase, so after asking the staff I decide to purchase Chapssalddeok - Korean Style Mochi, Red Bean Sticky Rice Cake, and Ggul Tteok (Dumplings stuffed with Korean Syrup or Honey. All the purchase were $14.00. Ok and Decent purchase. One package of Ggul Tteok was $4.00. The rest I am unsure coz there weren't any price tag on it. Maybe next time when I return, I SHOULD ask the staff, how much each item of Rice Cake will be. Everyone at the party like the Chapssalddeok (The BEST) coz those were eaten first aka, disappeared first. Followed by the Ggul Tteok. The Least favorite personally was the Red Bean Sticky Rice Cake. May return when needed.DAH WON RICE CAKE2222 S. Havana #KAurora, CO 80014Tel : (303)-369-7890@118/2014

Their rice cakes are delicious and the korean man who owns this place is really nice. He offered directions to H-Mart since I'm from out of town and was happy to talk about things to see and eat in Denver. I would take cash in case their card system is down. Lovely place owned by lovely people.

Drove past this tiny little rice cakery (is that a word?) on the way to satisfying a craving for Korean food. After lunch popped in to see what this place was all about. This store is extremely tiny and it seems to focus on manufacturing various rice cake products for other businesses but does sell a selection to walk in customers. From basic rice cake desserts to to rice cakes coated in coated with roasted soy bean powder. You can get all sorts of random rice cake things here. Seems like the chef is the only person working here so you'll have to flag his attention when you walk in.

Dah Won Rice Cake is excellent! Definitely the best in the Denver area. I heard they are under new management for the past few years. They are owned by a sweet Korean couple. When at the H mart I always stop by to get the mochi and honey tteok. I recently put in a big order for Mother's Day and they were very accommodating.
