Can't remember having such a delicious and perfectly prepared Ribeye. And I am a picky steak eater! The atmosphere is unique and like dining in a museum (or zoo;)Service was good. Don't let the casual appearance and set up fool you. Pricey but tasty. Super cool old building too. Loved it!

If you are tired of tourist traps and you want to go to a special experience that you can't really get anywhere else, come to the Buckhorn exchange. We were staying at the Marriott and I literally had to go back-and-forth with the concierge for five minutes, telling him that I didn't want to go to a doucher brewery that I could go to anywhere else and that I wanted a truly a unique experience to Denver. Finally, he told me about the Buckhorn exchange. This place is on the national registry! We started out with some Rocky Mountain oysters. If you can keep it out of your headspace that you're eating steer balls it's pretty good. I couldn't, halfway through I bit into something and it freaked me out lol. The Colorado lamb is incredible here I had a couple bites of my neighbors. I had the elk personally, which was very good and tender. Make sure you do not order this if you're going to get it past medium rare. The best thing I tasted was the buffalo prime rib. It was the cleanest, meanest prime rib I've had and I absolutely loved it.The service was excellent and I even met the owner the night. If you are in Denver, do not miss this place if you're looking for a unique dining experience.

We had Moses and Stephanie as our servers and they were both great! This is one of my favorite restaurants in Colorado.I almost always order rattlesnake, alligator tail, one of the wild game steaks and their apple pie.The apple pie is the best in the USA, to me. It has cinnamon syrup drizzled on a thick piece of pie with ice cream. The other big draw is the historic nature of the restaurant. It has a lot of great artifacts to view on their walls.Every time I come to Colorado I come here. This is one of my favorite restaurants in the USA.

This is such a neat restaurant and is so unique. I've only been the one time but it was delicious. We got the alligator tail and oh my gosh was that good! We love getting this whenever a place offers it and it definitely stacks up here! We all also got the Colorado Lamb, Elk, and Quail. It was all phenomenal and oh so very good. The seasoning on everything was done perfectly and the sides were even exceptionally done. I will say the decor is off the chart. If you don't like taxidermy or guns then avoid coming here because the walls are covered in it. They have so many different animals on the walls along with so many other neat little things. It's amazing this place was established back in 1893 too and the history in this small space is just amazing to think about. I really want to come back as they food is so so good and the staff is also just as great here!

Absolutely incredible... I am from Chicago and was in town for work and our company took us here. I was planning on getting a steak but the waitress mentioned the buffalo prime rib was her favorite and greatly appreciated the recommendation. I got the 16oz buffalo prime rib and it was nothing short of absolutely incredible! Perfectly cooked medium rare and the cut was incredible. Like over 1.5 inches thick and not super fatty at all. I highly highly recommend ordering this. The au jus and horseradish that come with were also delicious. I did not get our waitresses name but would love to thank her for the service and order recommendation! An added plus is the taxidermy and overall ambiance is very cool and give an old school saloon feel! Great place!!!

We returned here almost five years after due to family again visiting and wanting to indulge in the Buckhorn experience. We had a reservation for 4 at 6pm on a Friday night and it was fairly busy, but not overly packed. The environment and atmosphere is definitely entertaining. Our server was very friendly, knowledgeable, and attentive. We started with the sirloin game tips in a crushed red pepper sauce which we all agreed was one of the best parts of the meal. We then ordered a beef tenderloin and salmon combination plate which was $79.99, an 8oz solo beef tenderloin, the bison prime rib blackened, and the aged Angus beef ribeye special, and finished with the dutch apple pie a la mode. Everyone agreed their steaks were just okay, those of us who got the beef tenderloin did not feel they were up to traditional filet mignon medallion standards as parts were fatty as well as an inconsistent cook. The salmon was also unfortunately over cooked. Those that got the prime rib and ribeye enjoyed their steaks, however, again felt they were just okay and that overall, nothing was worth the cost. The winner of the meal was the dutch apple pie with cinnamon rum sauce and vanilla ice cream, that was delicious! As I stated in my first review, I have always believed this place was more representative of a 3-star place, and everyone that attended with me this time (including one who raved about it previously) was in agreement, therefore, I simply would not return unless someone requested to go when visiting from out of town.

This restaurant feels like stepping into a history museum! Upon entering, you're greeted by displays of taxidermy, vintage photographs, and antique furniture, creating a nostalgic atmosphere. My friend and I were seated downstairs, where our server, Sarah, was both professional and kind.I ordered the bison tenderloin cooked medium rare. Each entrée includes a soup or salad and a side, so I opted for the beer cheese soup, which was absolutely delicious, cheesy, savory, and perfectly complemented by the warm, complimentary bread rolls. Although my tenderloin was initially overcooked, Sarah quickly resolved the issue, and the replacement was cooked to perfection. The menu offers a variety of unique meats and dishes, including quail, elk, Rocky Mountain oysters, and rattlesnake, making it a standout choice for adventurous diners. Known as the oldest restaurant in Denver, this spot is truly one-of-a-kind. I highly recommend it if you're looking for a memorable dining experience in the city!

We went with a group for a friend's retirement. It is an historic place and had many things to look at from pictures to taxidermy animals to antiques. The parking lot is small. We had an early reservation right when they opened so parking was not a problem. Of course the table wanted to get Rocky Mountain Oysters. Not my fav, but that is personal preference. Those that had them said they were prepared just right. My son and I got one of the shared steaks for two. It came with salad or soup and side. I had the salad, my son had the soup. We opted for baked potato for our side. The salad was fresh, and the bread was tasty. I was disappointed in my steak. We ordered it medium and either the cut was tough or the steak knife I had needed sharpening because I had to saw my way through that meat. It tasted ok, but was a bit chewy.I can now say I had the experience of being there, but with the overall price of that experience, I will probably not be back.

Mushrooms that they served seems to be out of a can. The ambience was neat since it has that old timey feel but the food was okay. I can buy a steak from a good butcher and cook and prepare it just as well but you got there because it's historically known For the Rocky Mountain oysters... not my cup of tea but to each their own. The service was pretty good, staff members were vey nice. I would rate it 7.2-10. Would I go there again? For the price, no. Along with good company, sure.

Wonderful service tonight. Our server was so knowledgeable and sweet! The history of this place is what draws the crowd; you can read the stories throughout the menu and we had fun going through all of the history while eating. Make sure you take the time to explore around the restaurant. I don't think there's a bad seat in the house, upstairs feels a tad roomier though. Food: we had steak; bird plate; pot roast. All of it was good. The apple pie is the best pie I've ever had in my life. It's a must order! After tip we spent about $100 per person with drinks, shared app; entrees and a shared dessert.
