Papusa oh how I love thee. Today was a delicious food day. Although papusas are originally El Salvadoran they have made their way onto many a menu. The corn cakes filled with cheese and griddled so the cheese gets oozey and crispy is my version of food porn. Take a little dip in some slightly sweet tomato sauce, add a little pickled cabbage and bam, its street food at its best. For a side we ordered the fried plantains which came with salted crema and delicious refried black beans. A more perfect meal there could not be.

Buyer beware. I've ordered takeaway from here in the early days of stay-at-home order. When I came to pick up at the pickup time, there was a handful of people in & outside the restaurant waiting to pick up their orders too. None of them were observing social distance. When I got around to the counter, I observed the ladies in the kitchen frantically cooking but neither were wearing masks or gloves. My food was not even close to being ready & I had to stand around other customers who didn't bother to give me space. 20 minutes later, my food still was nowhere in sight & I was getting more & more uncomfortable due to crowding. Then it happened. The cook sneezed in the kitchen... With all them food around. Yup, NO mask over her face. I was done. Turned around & ran outta there.During this uncertain times, please be safe & be informed about how your food is getting prepared.

While this place is not too difficult to find, it is kinda small and can be easily missed. If you see Lupita's Mexican, just know you are in the right place. Antojitos Hondurenos is right next door. There is a small parking lot with a few spaces. When you walk in, you'll see a small sitting area and a window where you can order your food. There will be menus spread about that you can look at and there's also a fairly large LCD screen with pictures of the menu items. When you're ready, you can walk up to the window and order whatever your heart desires. On my visit, I had the Carne Azada and the Baliada Especial. Both dishes were fairly decent. The carne azada came with large pieces of beef, cabbage, pickled onion, rice topped with a fried egg, plantains, an avocado slice, and beans. The cabbage was fairly fresh and the fried plantains were crispy. While the dish was good, the pieces of beef were a little bit too salty and tough to chew. The baliada especial has cheese, beef, eggs, sour cream, and avocado. While the beef in this dish was more tender and less salt heavy than the carne azada, the powdered cheese in the dish was a little bit overpowering. But, the avocado definitely helped mild out the heavy cheese flavor. I really loved that the texture of the tortilla on the baliada. It was thick and warm. It held all of the inside ingredients really well. Honduran food in Colorado is fairly unique. So, I would recommend coming out to try this little restaurant. Everything tastes pretty decent. The prices of the food here are very reasonable. It's not the best Latin restaurant I've been too, but it'll certainly help satisfy your hunger cravings.

Food gets five stars and is delicious no doubt, but I think the service might have been better if I spoke some Spanish. Thankfully I had a friend who was a native Spanish speaker with me, but even so we were given the wrong orders and it took a while to get our orders correct. After all the ordering mishap though, I'd say the experience was fine. At the end of the day what you want is the food and the food was really tasty. We ordered some pupusas, the fried enchilada (don't remember what it was actually called but it was delicious), and a balaedas. A real casual non-fancy lunch spot!
