Wow. first and foremost - we ate in Glascott's next door - so this review will be entirely focused on the food. We both ordered the Kalamata Chicken and in my humble opinion, thought it was the most delicious roasted dark meat I've ever had. The fries were covered in their au jus and the skin was so crispy and flavorful. The white meat was fine. Pair it with a bite of the fry and a dip in the au jus and it makes the dryness a little more enjoyable. Wonderful meal. Service was quick. Will be back for this exact dish

Talk about VALUE!Can't remember the last time time I got such a solid dinner for 2 at this price. My Mom and I got an appetizer to split, each got an entree, and a dessert, and the bill came out to just under $42... We left very full too. The staff is super friendly and I loved the atmosphere inside the restaurant. I went to Greece around 10 years ago and I agree with a lot of the sentiment of my fellow helpers - kind of felt like I was back in Greece. Quick tip to everyone, it is a cash only restaurant so come prepared! On to the food!Chicken Kalamata - 4/5 Quite literally just a half chicken served on top of a bed of "Greek Fries". Not really sure what makes the fries Greek other than the fact that they soaked up the sauces from the chicken and had a ton of flavor. They were pretty delicious although they did get pretty soggy. The chicken itself was also super flavorful, though admittedly a bit on the dry side. I got a side of the Tzatziki sauce which was delicious and dipped the chicken (and fries) in it which overall saved the dish. Again though, I will stress VALUE here in my rating. A half chicken, a plateful of fries, a whole salad, and 4-5 slices of bread for 15.50 is a pretty absurd deal especially in Lincoln Park.Large Salad with Gyros - Mom gives it a 5/5"it was everything they said it would be" was the quote from Mama when I asked what her review was. Well seasoned LARGE salad with a load of thinly sliced Gyro meat on top. Also came with a whole pita, and a side of the Tzatziki (again, this is SOO good). I had a couple of bites of the Gyro meat and, yea, it was delicious. She was super full afterwards and again said "I can't believe how cheap this was"Overall, an awesome experience at Athenian room. Shoutout to the staff as well as they were very friendly and the food came out really quick. I think the only thing that is keeping this from a 5 star for me was the dryness of the chicken. Don't get me wrong it was still delicious and I was a clean plate RANGER, but it could have been cooked a little bit better. till, feel like I have been a bit picky in my reviews lately so 4/5 is an amazing score. 100% will be back here soon

Oh rats, the legendary Kalamata Chicken was high on my bucket list to try for years. Tina Fey gave it a certain cachet by naming it her favorite meal in Chicago, and David Letterman seemed to concur when he interviewed blues legend Buddy Guy over the same dish. I convinced Jamie W. to hop on the Red Line to Lincoln Park to have our first Windy City dinner. It was raining the night we went, and predictably there was a 45-minute wait for a table in their old-style dining room. We waited across the street nursing lattes at Starbucks and pleasantly got called after just a half-hour. We looked at the menu for about a minute and both ordered the $15.50 Chicken Kalamata Style Dinner which started with the Tossed Salad. It was already mixed in oil & vinegar, and I requested the $4 side of Feta Cheese to turn it into a Greek salad (photo: https://yelp.to/B84laSoDxJ). That was a delicious start along with the soft French Bread Roll and Butter (photo: https://yelp.to/1vN2uzVjsj). Our chicken plates arrived, and they were doozies - a full half-chicken broiled and grilled on top of a bed of Greek fries in a pool of their own au jus (photo: https://yelp.to/36q70Fr7Tr).Here's my verdict: The crispy skin was awesome, and the dark meat was juicy. The white meat was a bit dried out but still quite edible. The fries were holding up well from the au jus and chicken juice. The spoiler was the au jus. It consisted of olive oil, red wine vinegar, oregano, and lemon, and the resulting flavor was just too puckery sour to enjoy. Damn. FOOD - 3 stars...the kalamata chicken hamstrung by the au jusAMBIANCE - 3.5 stars...a traditional space with brick walls and tables crowded togetherSERVICE - 3.5 stars...nice enough local college kidsTOTAL - 3 stars...don't tell Tina I dissed her favorite spotRELATED - Exploring Chicago? Fair prices decent food close to Halsted and Armitage where everything else is overpriced with outdoor seating. I'll take it.

Lovely experience at Athenian room! The second I walked in, I loved the cozy atmosphere. It feels casual yet warm and well designed. The service was SO good. Food came out so quickly. The restaurant is cash only, but they do have an atm in the connected bar. We started with the spanakopita and pita with tzatziki. The pita was warm and everything tasted so fresh. For my meal, i got the chicken kebab. The Greek fries with the tzatziki was delicious and the chicken was so flavorful! Absolutely would get this again, but I can't wait to come back and try more on the menu!

CASH ONLY!I really liked the interior here, with the brick on the walls. It made me feel like I was in Greece (never been so I could be off basis). I went with the gyros dinner and it did not disappoint. The lamb/beef combo was so tender and flavorful. The meat also had a crispy exterior and covered the plate. The pita was warm and fluffy. Onions provided another crunch and tzatziki provided the tang. The steak fries had lots of flavor but were a little soft. Finally, on the bottom of the plate was a mixture of oil and herbs that I would have preferred on the side. I'm usually not a big fan of cash only spots due to inconvenience but I'm gonna have to find some cash to come back again. Great service, ambience, and most importantly food.

Best gyros in the Lincoln Park area. The Greek chicken is also very good. Restaurant is cash only but the bar attached next door has an ATM if necessary and you can bring drinks over from the bar.

This place is super famous for its Greek cuisine! I had heard all the rave online about this place and finally decided to check it out with my friends! What we ordered:Gyro dinner: I definitely recommend it. It's super good, and the tzatziki sauce pairs so well with the gyro. Exactly what I liked.Greek salad: You cannot go wrong with a Greek salad. The olive oil, spices, and feta cheese make it very refreshing and not too heavy.Chicken kabob dinner: It was good, but I thought the chicken could've been a bit more tender. The flavors were great.Chicken Kalamata Style: My friend said this tasted okay, the chicken was a bit dry, but the presentation is beautiful.I would come again but might try their other meat selections and order something besides chicken.

Super casual neighborhood Greek restaurant. The Kalamata chicken dinner is my favorite dish. Greek chicken is roasted to crispy on the outside, moist and tender on the inside. Chicken dinner is served atop Greek fries. Meal comes with a simple side salad. Add feta for a taste treat. My husband swears they serve the best gyros in the city. Portions are large, service is always good and attentive.Couple of things to note: No alcohol served in the restaurant but customers encouraged to purchase drinks at connecting bar (Glascott's) and bring them to the table. ALSO, this is a cash only restaurant. Fortunately meals are reasonably priced. Great option for a delicious homemade meal.
