If I could give this place 100 stars I would!!! It is one of my favorite places to dine this year. A bit on the pricey side with smaller portions, but everything is always delicious and on point. From the moment you walk in, the host staff to the SA's, to bartenders, to waitstaff, to management, and of course the chefs- both times the vibes have been immaculate and top tier. I think we have tried almost everything on the menu and I can't say anything negative. However our all time favorites are: The bread service (have to ask), the grilled prawns, octopus, seafood risotto, bone marrow puree, truffle rice, and the Akaushi steak. (We have tried all of the steaks and this is our favorite!) We have also tried all of the tortilla espanola but the one with the jamon is our favorite! We ask bread with the garlic prawns and risotto so we can soak up all the flavors. We almost always lick the plate! LOLI'd skip all salads and the caviar churros though!

Locale was small and intimate. Had a business dinner there and unexpectedly our table was a small, tall bar table. Being small made it awkward and difficult to manage with drinks, appetizers, steaks, sides and later dessert.Cut of steaks available are top of line and preparation was good. The service in person was fantastic. Overall food was good, but ambiance, table size, and table location by bar made it a bit uncomfortable with several groups trying to cozy up to the bar to get drinks before dinner. Last but not least, I was charged $90 for the reservation and the $90 was not deducted from my bill. Having receipt in hand, I called and my contact info taken and was told a manager would get back to me. After 12 days, with no manager call or resolution, I disputed the $90 reservation charge with my cc company and I had it taken care of. I had high expectations but after a $300 dinner in a crammed setting, and no resolution to the reservation charge I will not be going back, as there are too many other options in this city.

Great place. One of best in Chicago. It's a great vibe and pretty interior. Feels so cool to dine here. Service was great and friendly and explained anything you wondered about. Now the food. We had the lobster and corn foie gras, the churros, and the prawns first. I would say prawns and foie gras were great and highly recommend. The churros were okay, nothing special and pricey for being nothing special, would skip those. Then we had the arroz cremoso (which is a seafood risotto), the besugo (fish), and bone marrow potato puree. All amazing. Fish was perfectly cooked and the risotto was a must have. Enjoyed the potatoes as a side with the entree. Loved it. The fish is amazing here, don't think you have to get a steak , the seafood is some of the best in Chicago. For dessert we got the golden chocolate hazelnut cake, I really enjoyed it. If you like chocolate and hazelnut, you can't go wrong here. Thought it was pretty presentation and tasty. Good way to end the meal.Overall, must try this place. Perfect for a date or if you want to show people a cool Chicago spot. Can't wait to come again. Next time I'll try a steak.

Very cool intimate Spanish steakhouse in a reconfigured townhome. The service was great, the vibe was awesome and the food was fantastic. My wife and I split the 1.75 lb Galician steak and it was incredible. We tried the mashed potatoes, caviar churro, bluefin tuna, beef jamon, and asparagus salad. The blue fin tuna was my favorite appetizer. Very unique flavors. I could have eaten 10 plates of it. Beef jamon was awesome. My wife really like the caviar churro. I thought it was okay. Two small bites for $32....probably not worth it. Asparagus salad was fine, but not something you need to try. The drinks were awesome. Daisy Mezcal, Dirty Dirty and Old Fashioned were all great. Overall a very unique spot that is great for special occasions. It's a higher end place, so we expected a big bill. It honestly ended up being pretty reasonable all things considered. Probably best to split a steak instead of getting two separate ones which will save you $100.

My boyfriend and I came here for Valentine's Day after seeing so much talk on social media. I was hoping that it would live up to my expectations but honestly I should have lowered them. The concept of the restaurant being a house that is renovated is pretty cool though the seating is incredibly packed. I just feel like if we are going to a nice dinner, where people usually come to celebrate something intimate, I don't want to be sitting inches from people. Makes the whole experience very awkward as I don't want to accidentally eavesdrop on others and I also don't want them to hear my conversation. For food, we shared the pulpo, ribeye, and bone marrow mashed potatoes. The flavor of the pulpo was delicious but it was not charred enough. Because of that, it felt rubbery. The pulpo laid on top of squid ink pasta which was way too hard and oily in my opinion. Pretty saddened by this dish given pulpo is my favorite. The bone marrow mashed potatoes were probably the highlight of the meal but you can't really get that wrong. Super creamy and decadent. I am a huge rib eye girly and appreciated the cook on the ribeye but there was barely any flavor so it was really hard to eat. I ended up drowning the meat into the mashed potatoes. Not sure if we came on an off night but overall disappointed in our experience here especially on a special night. Service though was exceptional and attentive.

One-of-a-kind steakhouse flavors and Chicago restaurant experiences! Asador Bastian is a Basque steakhouse located in a historic Chicago townhome. The ambience is warm but elevated, the service was impeccable, and the food was unforgettable! We shared all dishes and our waiter kindly divided each among our group. No crumb was left behind. Incredible wine list. Truly a must-try for steak lovers looking to step out of the basic Chicago steakhouse cuisine!

I don't review restaurants very often anymore, but Asador Bastian is one of the best new restaurants I have been to in the last couple of years. In a city where steakhouses rule (i.e. Gibson's, Bavette's, etc.), it is hard to create a new steakhouse concept that delivers both on food, service, and ambiance. Chef Doug and his team have done just that. I have been here now on multiple occasions just to confirm it was not a one-hit wonder and it has delivered each time I have been here. The cocktails and wine list here are also fantastic - you can't go wrong and the somms will steer you in the right direction. If I had to recommend a few things that you MUST order, it would be as follows:- Tortilla Espanola (with jamon or caviar)- Bluefin Tuna Carpaccio- Steak (I've had the dry aged Holstein and a couple of their specials -- all great)- Garlic Prawns- Octopus- Truffle and Iberico Rice- Bone Marrow Potato PureeI have not yet had the whole fishes yet but I can't imagine it not being amazing -- but the steak is really good and you should get enough of it to split among the table (it is priced per pound). The price point will be in line with other fancy steakhouses, so it's probably not a place you can dine at every night, but certainly worth it for a nice night out or a celebration.

We came in here for Restaurant Week and paid the $45 deposit to make a reservation but when we got there a couple minutes early, they directed us to the bar to wait a few minutes until our tablewas ready. Well that turned into almost 30 min, and I guess no table was ready, so they asked us if we'd be interested in a booth in the bar instead of the dining room. My preference was the dining room but by this time it was almost 9:30pm and we were starving so we agreed. Finally the waiter came and took our order and when we asked about the RW menu, they told us that it wasn't available in the bar, Nd by this time the dining room was about to close so we just ordered off the regular menu. We were annoyed by this point and just wanted to hurry up and eat and get out of there so we ordered a red, the mashed potatoes, and a nice ribeye. Everything was good and in line with what you would expect at a nice steakhouse but a bit pricey. With tax and tip everything came to about $350, which did not include the cocktail at the bar so all in dinner was almost $400, which I felt was too pricey considering we didn't even get a dessert. Overall the experience was very off-putting, especially with the nonrefundable $45 deposit, so we don't plan to return.

Excellent.Fabulous.Decadent.Whew, still breathing heavy after this wonderful meal. Truly a 10/10 dining experience. We were seated in the barroom, which is incredibly cozy & sophisticated. Liz, our waitress, was very helpful in guiding us through the menu & ensuring our meal was well-balanced. The caviar churros, tortilla espanola, picon punch, & bone marrow potatoes were the easy highlights... each bite delectable. They also offer a variety of steaks & seafood. Tonight, we had the tasty dry aged steak Holstein. We will definitely return & highly recommend. This is an excellent spot for a special occasion.

We just loved this place. The hospitality (thanks, Christian!) was second to none, and the food was on point. We sampled numerous tapas-style appetizers, including the salmon tartare, Spanish omelet (with truffle), and jamon de iberico bellota. The family-style dry-aged steak, accompanied by an amazing side of sauteed mushrooms and crispy spanish-style potatoes were also incredibly quality (and perfectly cooked to order). The sommelier helped us pair a memorable Rioja Gran Reserva that we still rave about. The ambiance was great, too - we loved the exquisite effort that transformed the historic townhouse into a contemporary (but warm), multi-level dining space. Capped off with the basque cheesecake, and a warm welcome from Chef/Owner Doug when we visited the kitchen, and it was just a memorable experience overall - exactly what we were looking for. Can't wait to return!
