We passed by this place on the way to the Old Abandoned Zoo. Stopped here on the way back and I got the buffalo chicken salad, my son got the burger and my husband got the chicken sandwich and we ended the meal with a buttermilk and apple pie slice. What a delicious way to end the day after hiking for several hours! The service was great! From the moment you walk in, you're greeted with a friendly smile and a down-home vibe that makes you feel like family. The staff is super attentive, always ready to offer recommendations if you're not sure what to order (though, honestly, everything is amazing ). Whether you're a first-timer or a regular, they'll make sure you're comfortable and have everything you need. And don't forget--the pace is laid-back, just like the vibe of the restaurant itself. You're not rushed, so you can take your time to enjoy the good food and good company. If you've got questions about the menu or the history of the place, the staff is always happy to share some fun stories about The Smokestack's legacy. The Smokestack is an iconic spot that's been serving up delicious BBQ and home-cooked meals for decades. The restaurant was originally opened in 1946 by a local legend, and it's been a family-owned favorite ever since. Known for its vintage charm and mouthwatering smoky meats, it quickly became a hub for locals and travelers alike. The building itself? A true piece of Texas history! With its rustic vibes and that nostalgic smokestack out front, it's the kind of place where you can almost feel the rich history in the air. Over the years, The Smokestack has become more than just a restaurant--it's a landmark that carries with it stories, traditions, and, of course, amazing food. So, next time you're in the area, swing by and get yourself a taste of Texas history. You won't regret it!

My first visit after driving by this place several times over the last 30 years. It was early in the day, and I wasn't sure they would be serving breakfast based on what I had seen online, but was pleasantly surprised! The place is one of the original brick buildings from this old townsite. It's quite homey, lots of photos from the heydays of this area. Service was friendly and efficient. The menu had lots of choices for breakfast, and I chose the Brick Rustler, as it covered a lot of bases with eggs, bacon, sausage, 2 biscuits, gravy, has browns and pancakes! And all that for $19.95! I was able to eat all but the pancake and a biscuit, which I took to go.I don't get out here much but I'll stop when I can.

Viktoria was very attentive and engaging. She knew a lot about the menu and made the amazing ranch dressing! The Smokestack is an enjoyable restaurant with inside seating and a large patio area as well. The daily specials are super affordable and come with desert. I enjoyed the fried chicken salad with their home made dressings. Their burgers are the perfect consistency, with a good crust and not greasy, with a great flavor.

Sunday lunch! We started with fried pickles so yummy and the ranch dip tasted homemade! We had the greasy cheesy and the chicken bacon sandwich..both were so delicious and gigantic we didn't need the fries that came with it! A really good lunch on our road trip!

Hubby and I had the liver and onions with mashed potatoes and gravy, and the Buffalo chicken salad with blue cheese. Both dishes were wonderful, the place is very interesting and service was very good. This place is definitely worth stopping at.

Service was fine and the food was ok but between the flies in the dining room and the mouse that ran across the floor and under the booth it just wasn't a good experience.

Cute little diner in Thurber. We went here for a quick breakfast before Strawn homecoming and wasn't disappointed. They had the best meat lovers omelet and all the normal breakfast diner things including the small town lovely service and the nice patrons who greet you no matter who you are. I miss real diners in the city. Will be back next time we're in town.

Great food-had chicken fettuccine and shrimp Murphy plus ended with a delicious brownie with salted Carmel gelato. I highly recommend getting off I 20 at the Mingus exit and check it out.
