I brought my work team of 5 here to commemorate Black History Month through our support of a local, black-owned business. We didn't have an issue with service being slow like some of the other reviews mention. We had a wonderful experience at lunchtime on a Wednesday. The restaurant was near empty. The waitress sat us quickly and brought us carafes to refill our waters. Background music was great and the perfect audio level for weekday lunch. We got a free appetizer of the corn muffins with honey butter, which are just so delicious. And lunch itself was yummy. My gumbo was a little saltier and spicier than my personal preference but the sweet cornbread muffins balanced it out for me. The gumbo was served with dirty rice, also yummy The team also ordered the hot chicken sandwich and the fried catfish meal. Servings were generous and everyone really loved their dishes. We were out the door maybe by 1:15pm? So total dining time of about an hour. It was totally within timeliness expectations for a corporate lunch hour. Don't hesitate, and check out Southern Gourmet Kitchen if you're in the area!

How lucky am I that I live right down the street from this place!!!Everything I had was full of flavor and seasoned perfectly!I got the Bama wings, with the macaroni! I tried the meatloaf mashed potatoes, egg roll and yams and cornbread! Oh and the fried green tomatoes! I also got a drink that I forgot the name but it was good as well! The waiter was very attentive and had many suggestions for food! The ambiance is an intimate place, dimmed lights.I would recommend making a reservation for the weekend, as they have a dj and hookah and could get crowded. Ask to make sure dj n hookah is available on that day, wasn't when I went yesterday. I would try everything I got again!!!!

Today was my first visit to Southern Gourmet. A friend and I went for R&B Bingo. It's a very cute vibe and liked the decor. The food was very good! We shared an order of the collard egg rolls. I was pleasantly surprised at how good they were. Bits of turkey and I think, maybe some cream cheese but not sure. It came with a dipping sauce but I didn't need it. We both ordered the catfish which was so delish! I ordered a side of fries and my friend had the mac and cheese which looked amazing.Ok so here's the bad part... the service was terrible - truly the worst I've seen in a long time. When we arrived, there was a number of people (patrons) standing around. No one was at the hostess stand. 10 mins in, a couple in front of us left. Eventually my friend stopped a server to ask about a hostess and inform her that we had a reservation. She told us that she would seat us after tables were cleaned off. 10 mins later, we were seated. Our server was friendly when she came around. She gave recommendations and cracked us up with her jokes and personality. She hardly ever checked on us and we didn't receive a couple of requested items (plates for the appetizer and water). The food also took close to an hour to come out. The menu mentioned to expect a minimum of 30 mins... but still. There were a couple of tables that sat after us who received food. I did wonder if she forgot to put in our order after awhile.Anyway, good food and atmosphere, but it's a one and done for me.

I have been to this restaurant several times and I have the same issue every time. Having visited on a weekday and a weekend, it is obnoxiously loud! Don't get me wrong, the food is very tasty and worth the price! The collard green egg rolls are very delicious and I want two orders of them every time. I just don't believe that the food outweighs the service and atmosphere. The first time we visited, there were speakers right behind our booth and it was so loud, we had to text each other. Thankfully, the restaurant upgraded their speakers, but we choose to sit outside due to the music blaring and the lack of ability to communicate with the guests adjacent to you. I communicated this issue with management and the response that I received was, "We have guests who visit and tell us to turn the music up." I'm a relatively young man, I don't mind loud environments, but there's a time and a place and this isn't it. It's a restaurant, not a club. We have heard multiple people leave the restaurant and make jokes about not being able to hear. Overall, the food is good but the atmosphere and service isn't up to par for me to return anytime soon.

While, I would come back just for the playlist, but, let's talk about the food. The menu boasts all the southern favorites you could crave, from creamy mac n cheese to sweet candied yams and crispy fried green tomatoes. There is truly something on the menu for everyone. While I wasn't a fan of the crab cakes, I cannot recommend the Southern egg rolls enough! They are crispy, well-seasoned, and served with the tangiest sauce. The wait staff adds to the experience; we had nothing but, polite and attentive service. They're always ready to assist with a smile, making you feel right at home. But, the wait for food is something serious -- expect upwards of at least an hour, even on a slow day/time. But again, I'd come back just for the playlist/experience.

My friend raved about this place, so of course I had to check it out while I was in town. Lucky for us, we snagged a reservation because we would have been SOL. We were seated at our table and a server came around to grab drink and app orders. There was a DJ playing so we enjoyed some nice tunes while waiting for our food and drinks to arrive. On to the food: we had the collard green egg rolls, fried green tomatoes, southern guy, southern girl, and fried chicken. NONE, and I do mean NONE of the food was a miss. It was all fresh, hot, and seasoned to perfection! Then, I had this kool-aid type of drink (iykyk) and it was FIRE! I wanted to go back the next day just to grab a cup.Why 4 stars then? Our server was kind of slow, but the owner was kind and fixed the situation. The corn bread was surprisingly bland. I honestly expected way more considering how flavorful the rest of the food was. I did not like how they cut a whole filet in half and only give you one side instead of an entire filet. Other than that, the experience was LIT and I would love to go back again!

Southern Gourmet Kitchen is a restaurant located in Plano, Texas that serves southern food, made from scratch. I was told that they started off as a food truck and due to the popularity of the food, they decided to open a restaurant located on Park Blvd. They have plenty of free parking and we were seated within 5 minutes if arrival on a Sunday morning. When ordering you can use your phone to order food and drinks and pay your final bill at the end via your smart phone. I love this. When I ordered my first drink it arrived at the table in less than 3 minutes flat. I was shocked to say the least. From the moment we walked in the door, the service was SUPERB! They provide complimentary cornbread while you wait, but don't get full off the cornbread because the food is amazing. I arrived with five others and there were no complaints. Another thing to note is that they have a live dj during Sunday brunch. Bottomless mimosas are $16, and they will continue to fill your carafe as much as you like.Service = 5 StarsFood = 5 StarsVibe = 5 StarsDrinks = 3 Stars (I prefer less juice in my mimosa carafe) Parking = 5 starsOverall.....Southern Gourmet Kitchen deserves 5 stars!!! Go check it out for yourself!

Southern Gourmet Kitchen..... do better!Upon entry it was laid back. Casual. Some dressed in their Sunday's best. Gospel music playing, not too loud. Waited at least 7 mins to be acknowledged by someone. And I had to say hello to get him to acknowledge me. At 2 pm they went to r&b and it was too loud. We had to yell to hear one another. We were finally seated and received delicious mini cornbread. But no silverware/napkins. But that's fine. I'm cool eating with my hands. And the mini cornbread is bomb! After eating the cornbread we had no water or drinks to wash it down. I will say rt here and now service is shit. There is no two ways about. Absolutely shit. As we ordered we were told "we are Out of this. And Out of that". On a Sunday. Out of certain foods and desserts. Reservation at 2 pm. Still no food at 3:08 pm. Only mini cornbread muffins. Men moving a table from the back ran the table into my cousin's back and failed to stop to ensure she was ok. Manager did make them come apologize. But proper protocol is to sit the table down and check on ur customer. What if she had back issues? And only one of the young men came over to apologize. The other never came to apologize. But the young man who did was gracious and listened. Thank you young man. Ashley R was our server. Her demeanor was not great. I'm sure she was over worked and flustered. There was literally a continuous flow of people coming in. Literally. I put a $100 deposit down for a large party (over 10 people). There was no option for them to allow me to pay with the deposit and credit the balance back to my card. Had to pay for someone's food and they zelled me. It was NOT worth the hassle, time or money. I will not return. Again the food was very good. However the portions were not worth what we paid. I've been to other places and paid same price and had food left over. We grew so flustered we all took a few bites and boxed our food. Side note: we had to order our food and pay for that before we could order to go items. Crazy stuff. So another long wait. Do not recommend. Unless ur ordering to go pickup and then u shld call to make sure ur order is ready cuz they are slow as molasses. Food 8Portions 5Atmosphere 7Waitstaff 6

I'm extremely disappointed. From the door, I should have turned around.CONS1. I made a reservation through their TOAST booking site, and they (2 different hostess) couldn't find it and asked me if I booked through Eventbrite. I said no, then pulled it up on my phone because they thought we were a walk-in. I was then asked if we wanted to sit at the bar. I made a reservation for a table so that's what I wanted. The host wasn't too pleasant, and it felt more like she was squeezing us at a table vs. seating someone who made a reservation. My first mind told me to walk out then!2. Many of the options that I came there for and would have chosen were not available, so I chose the $20 4 jumbo shrimp basket with one side. Also noted that I did not request for the shrimp to be fried extra crispy but no big deal. I RECEIVED 6 little shrimp along with the side. $20 for THAT? SMH. I asked our waitress about this discrepancy and she couldn't even come up with a feasible explanation, and after seeing her struggle to explain, I realized that it was not her fault, so I let it slide.3. Food and drinks took a good little while to come out.4. Upon my pulling up the check to cash out, I went over it. My gf ordered and RECEIVED ONE $15 order of the 3 egg rolls, and I was charged for 2. The second egg roll order that I did not ask for nor receive was $14. The waitress tried to explain that it was infact canceled out on their end and that I'd pay the corrected amount with her. Negative. On my end, I saw that my bill was $116.50 when it should have been $102.50 (minus the $14 ghost order). On her POS device, I was still charged $110.50, which was still $8 more than I should have paid. It's a minor chunk of change, but the principle is the point here. Charge me for what I ordered and nothing else! I still gave a recommended tip because the server was nice. In total, I left there paying $126, and I will not be back.5. The music was extremelyyyy loud. The website does state that there is a DJ during the time that we went and that if you wanted a quiet setting, then to come at the earlier times. We wanted to come and hear music and feel the vibes, but I didn't expect to experience that level of loudness. I don't even think music is this loud in the clubs! My gf and I literally had to scream at each other across a tiny table, and we were seated way at the front door, far from the dj.No I did not ask for a manager because I had just made up in my mind that I'd take this L and just never visit again.Pros: Food was ok, vibe and atmosphere was cool, the bartenders were definitely a vibe, and our server was nice.
