Roots Chicken Shak

Got chicken and catfish burger. Both were excellent. Flavorful, hot, crisp, not overly greasy. Very good

That was a pretty good chicken sandwich but I probably wouldn't go back. I'm teetering between 3 and 4 stars.It was a nice sized breast with tasty toppings. However, most of the seasoning was muted. I really had to concentrate to get the flavors and the spice. The service leaves a lot to be desired. The woman at the cash register had little personality. The lady in front of me had ordered a fish sandwich without tartar sauce. So, they disassembled her sandwich at the counter and rebuilt it on a new bun. I felt bad for her. When I came back for my chicken (you have to wait because it's cooked to order), I felt bad for the person whose fries were just sitting on the tray on the counter getting cold. Then I realized that they were mine. Whomp whomp!

I've been to Tiffany's Italian restaurant, which was underwhelming. However, I have heard that her fried chicken is amazing and a must try. Met a friend for dinner at Legacy Hall. It's a weeknight. So, the Hall wasn't too crowded or busy. I was able to walk right up and order. The gentleman at the counter that took my order was nice and said that it would take 10-15 minutes for my order to be ready. My friend already had her dinner. I hoped it would be with the wait. I walked over at approximately the time my order was to be ready and waited. Everything was served hot and fresh off the fryer. For freshly fried chicken, it was not soggy or greasy - but it was also not crunchy like one would expect fried chicken to be. Instead the outer part of the chicken was dry, not as bad as leather but dry. The inside was moist. Not much seasoning at all. It absolutely needed the sweet and hot bbq sauce. The fries were another story. They were perfectly cooked, crispy, and delicious. I honestly loved those fries. Overall, it was underwhelming. Honestly am kicking myself for not going to another place there to eat.

I'm going to get to the point succinctly in this review. I had high hopes for the chicken here. I ordered 6 wings with Sweet 'N Spicy BBQ and Ranch sauce. I also ordered the Baked Potato Casserole ( mashed potatoes, cheddar cheese, sour cream, bacon and herbs). The wings were average. The wings were very greasy and needed to be crispier and have some seasoning for flavor. The wings tasted bland, at 6 wings for $14 I need flavor and perfectly fried chicken. Why? Popeyes does it well it for cheaper so why can't Roots Chicken Shak do it even better for more? The Baked Potato Casserole was good, however the serving size was small! It was $5 but very small. The flavor was good and it was very cheesy. This isn't a bad menu item at all. I can't recommend Roots Chicken Shak, save your money. The service is subpar, nothing terrible but not average either. I wasn't greeted or thanked for my business and I was the only customer, there was no line (which was a red flag for me since this is located in the Legacy Hall food hall and a few other restaurants had lined for their food).

We used to LOVE this place. When it opened, it had great sized portions at an amazing price and the food quality was always top notch. Over the years, the portions have gotten smaller but the quality has been great. When we most recently got it, it was bad. The chicken portion was tiny and burnt for both the wings and tenders. Not even the fries could save the meal. It is really sad, I will be hard pressed to go back which is too bad since I love supporting black women owned businesses.

I've been a fan of Tiffany Derry since her season of Top Chef, so Roots Chicken Shak was on the top of my list of places to try while visiting Dallas. It was a 40 minute drive from where I was staying, but absolutely worth it! This spot is located inside Legacy Hall, which is a food hall filled with delicious restaurants and an upstairs bar area.While the other options at the food hall were tempting, I had my eyes set on Roots Chicken Shak. I ordered the Spicy Bird without the kimchi mayo (I don't like mayo) and was so tempted to order fries, but I wasn't super hungry. It took about 7 minutes to get my order, which wasn't bad. I promptly dug into the sandwich and was immediately greeted with a delicious blend of seasonings and spices. While it has a very subtle hint of spicy, I wasn't disappointed as it allowed the other flavors to shine through. The chicken was tender, juicy, and perfectly breaded. I'm not a fan of kale, but the kale salad worked really well with the sweet potato bun. Again, I love hot chicken and normally would be disappointed if a "spicy" sandwich didn't deliver on the heat, but not in this case. It's truly a testament to Tiffany's skills as a chef.If there was a location near me in Vegas, I'd definitely be frequenting it often. Probably best for my health that there is not lol! Highly recommend making the stop if you are anywhere in the greater DFW area!

I recently had the pleasure of trying Roots chicken, and I must say, it was a delightful experience. While I usually order their wings, this time I decided to try their chicken sandwich, and I was blown away. The chicken was perfectly cooked, juicy, and flavorful. The breading had a nice crunch to it, adding an extra layer of texture to the sandwich. The sandwich with everything to this tangy sauce that complemented the chicken perfectly. The combination of flavors was simply amazing. The portion size was generous, and the sandwich was served with a side of crispy fries which were extra but the Duck fries were amazing also. Overall, I highly recommend trying the chicken sandwich at Roots chicken. It's a delicious and satisfying choice that will leave you wanting more. I want another right more typing this lolLocation is inside legacy hall. You can park in the parking garage to the left of the building which is free. Seating was easy this time as I went during the day but keep in mind this is a food hall so it does get packed.

I was apprehensive to try with the chicken being fried in duck fat. Boy am I sad I waited so long to try. This food is DELICIOUs. The service is phenomenal.. everyone's so nice. The ambiance is that of a typical food court. Oh! Their koolaid is to die for.

4.75/5 stars from me!!! I was enjoying a meal from another place in the legacy food hall that didn't have any veggie side options- so my homegirl recommended this place because of the salads. The Caesar salad was the ONE! I am a Caesar salad super fan, so I was overly excited when I saw they have real anchovies they put on it. Omfg. So flavorful! I also like that they used kale and mustard greens, it reminds me of how my grandma would use a variety of greens. The service was top notch, the person working the counter was preparing the food and taking orders and was doing so super efficiently. They reminded me of one of my aunties, really pleasant and welcoming. I will definitely be back to try more things!

I love Chef Tiffany so while in Dallas over the holiday break I had to try one of her locations out. I love that you this place is located in Legacy Hall and on the first floor. The sandwich was wonderful other than the one olive I found but the spicy mix they put in the sandwich is amazing. My fries were cooked to perfection crispy on the outside but soft on the inside.
