Peacock's Restaurant

The food was delicious, and it was perfectly prepared. We did takeout and it was ready when they told us it would be. They gave us everything we needed in our takeout bag.

We come here at least twice a week. It's my dad's favorite place, and we enjoy it as well. Great pancakes! And when Kate is here, she knows exactly what we order, super nice to have a great waitress like her. And the others are great too!

If you find yourself in Stephenville on Sunday morning (or anytime) and in need of a sit-down meal, The Peacock (established 1973) will do, especially if you have a softspot for classic American roadside diners. It's open 24/7 and serves a typical diner breakfast at all hours.The nostalgia factor is high here, with all vintage hallmarks intact, from the retro signage to the vinyl booths to the motel-adjacent location.Food is meh, I can't lie, mostly straight from the Sysco truck as far as we could tell, but it's clear that folks from all walks of life love this spot. We saw several cute families in for brunch after church, cowboys in from work on the ranch, little league players fresh from a game, and Tarleton State college kids hanging out. People watching was the most entertaining thing about the place.We were starving when we arrived, having driven across town to eat at a different highly rated place that wound up being closed for vacation of the owners (wah!). My hangry was breaking through and every little mistep was extra annoying at this point, not good for Peacock's assessment to come.We had to wait a few minutes for a table to open up, then were seated at a booth in the back. We could watch the cooks behind the counter from our table and they were busy bees, fixing orders for a full restaurant as well as many call-in and walk-up take out orders.Our waitress (the only one on duty?) came over right away to take a drink order and drop off the menus. We made our selections quickly but it was a while before she returned to take our food orders. She left before I could taste my drink and discover it was the wrong beverage. She never made eye contact or returned to our table again until our food came out 45 minutes later - wah!I ordered huevos rancheros. When it was delivered, the top was covered with cold, pre-shredded cheese straight from the bag. Ya know, the kind with added starch to prevent the shreds from sticking? It seems they have no heat lamps over the waiting plates, so the food gets cold as it sits and any cheese toppings do not melt. I was too hungry to care at this point. Eggs weren't half-bad, even if served over charro beans instead of having refried on the side. The hashbrowns were clearly straight out of the freezer bag, barely crisped. Too bad!

Had a combo of eggs, bacon & pancake all hot & tasty. Husband had the breakfast tacos w. taco meat & the seasoning was good & tortillas had a nice brown on them from the grill. Biscuits & gravy were peppery (as I like it). Staff was attentive & friendly.

My Winner for Best Biscuits and gravy!Three light, fluffy biscuits and huge bowl of steaming gravy, perfectly balanced with sausage and precisely the right thickness, priced at ONLY $6.00!!! And courteously served within literally, SECONDS, after my order! So come in and enjoy the ambiance of pure central Texas: very popular among the local ranchers and their hands!

Giving 5 stars to offset some senseless reviews. Otherwise, I'd give at least 4. Always good. Hard to get a seat sometimes. Service good. Very happy that the city supports local business instead of corporations. Wish all these people would support Jake & Dorothy's as much. Unfortunately, Stephenville is becoming corporate business establishment like any large city, killing local businesses and the hometown feel.Sad...

First visit was interesting I guess. I have family that loves coming here but I was not impressed. Our waitress was slow, but still very attentive. The food was so disappointing. I got french toast with bacon & eggs. Pretty simple. The eggs were so bland. Pretty sure they just pour it from a carton, as they kind of taste like cardboard. The bacon was sooooo salty that I barely choked down one piece. I didn't really get to eat my french toast because even though they're a breakfast place, THEY DON'T EVEN HAVE REAL SYRUP!! I was given a little thing of Smuckers "Breakfast syrup" which is just High Fructose Corn Syrup & artificial flavors. I asked the waitress for real syrup and she said they only carry the fake stuff. $14 + tip for bland, artificial food. No thanks.

The food wasn't bad, it was the service. One waitress was looking at her phone and our waitress kept forgetting about us. Two ladies order salad with thousand island dressing, but Italian. I wanted a to go box, but she never came around to check on us. It even toke awile to get silverware after we got our food. I hope others have better luck, because we didn't, and it was the first time for me.

Went to peacock to have lunch on January 1st. What a mistake. The young lady that waited on us had a bad attitude from the beginning. She did not get the order correct when she took it it should have been two hamburger steak plates with the sides we received one it wasn't even correct we asked for no gravy on it and got gravy she put another order in after we were about to leave and then still charges $32 for the 1 hamburger steak plus a salad yeah but the salad should have been on the side I should have got the order right in the first place
