We've eaten at this establishment before and it was great. Today?! Horrible service and horrible food. I called in the order over an hour before we arrived since we were driving down from a conference in Oklahoma; the young Lady took our order over the phone, I told her we will be there by 430p. We arrived around 445p; their scrambling to locate our order, questioning if we paid for it, what the order # was, if we have a receipt etc. (completely irritated me because we don't steal). Our order wasn't ready, she didn't even place the order! She had to take the to-go plate to someone so they could fulfill the order. Irritated already because we waited almost 20 additional minutes and had 5 more hours to drive. This used to be our reliable soul food spot, no more! We weren't offered a discount, extra anything. The older woman in the corner of their "to-go" area was fussing at the girl about forgetting the plates but still didn't acknowledge us, the amount of time we had to wait, nothing. So boom, we get on the road and begin to eat. Oh. My. God. Oxtail ($30 per plate) with dressing, green beans, steamed rice (asked if I want brown gravy over the rice yuck), cornbread. Oxtail tastes like boiled unseasoned beef, green beans were mushy and weren't seasoned even though I so a few shreds of possible ham hock. Hot water cornbread and cornbread are two different things, why would you ask me if I wanted cornbread then give me hot water cornbread? Which was cold and hard as well. The only savior to this plate is the mac and cheese, everything else was a waste of money. Oh I forgot to say ... because our plate was never made, we had to substitute the dressing and the banana pudding because they sold out. Which obviously put us in a bind because we drove this way purposely for this restaurant. Do. Not. Eat. Here.

Second time coming here, and it's been quite a while since the last. However, everything remains the same. Great food, amazing customer service, and a cute little place for family get togethers. I definitely recommend the ox tail, black eyed peas, green beans, collard greens, neck bones, Mac n cheese, cheese and broccoli rice, and corn bread. Stop by if you're in the area. It's worth it.

We've been traveling all of Texas for 4 months now. I was really looking forward to Southern Cooking & BBQ, because that's all you hear about. We FINALLY had some amazing Southern Cooking. We just came into town and we like to drive around for a little bit. Luckily we found this place. It was just the 3 of us, and when we came in we looked so lost lol. The gentleman up front was so sweet and patient with us. I asked for ox tails and told him if you could pick out the 3 sides for me. He picked the Mac n cheese (which I LOOOVED) the Yams (yumm) and greens. I didn't care for those but my husband LOOOVED those but he didn't care for the Yams. He said they were too sweet but they were my favorite. It was perfect, we just switched & we got more of what we loved. Growing up, my dad is from Texas & would always talk about how amazing Southern Cooking was, now I finally get to see what he's talking about.

Out of me and my wife's' food, these were the best things I tasted here. The baked chicken was way better than the chicken fried steak, The broccoli cheddar rice casserole was better than the Mac and cheese, and the roll was better than the fried cornbread. My wife really didn't like the collards greens and the mashed potatoes were ok. I was specifically disappointed with the cornbread, there was no sweetness to it, all the sugar was on the kool aid lol. I do have to say that the peach cobbler was absolutely delicious and that alone will have me coming back. The staff was very friendly and service was fast. It did feel pricey but the portion was very generous. I would recommend take out rather than dining in since all food is on to-go plates already. Lastly, I want to say that I really loved the sweet yams and can't wait to eat that later as a snack.

After walking nearly 3 miles at the Fort Worth Zoo, we stopped by this recommended soul food place. There were so many options in the buffet, but I got my usual: baked chicken, cabbage, sweet potatoes and macaroni. The sweet potatoes were really good, mac and cheese was ok, and the cabbage was mildly seasoned. The chicken was delicious and was literally falling off the bone We also got the oxtail and black eye peas. The oxtails were very tender and seasoned very well. The black eye peas were full of meat and the combination with the hot water cornbread was chef's kiss. Just had to get the peach cobbler and I'm glad I did. The crust and peach ratio was everything!! So glad we ordered two. I had to put the main course aside once i tasted the peach cobbler. I couldn't stop eating it!Just know you are given enough food that can last two days. I had two leg quarters! They are very generous with the servings here.

I love it!! I drive from the other side of Burleson to get takeout, does that tell you anything? I love the Chicken Spaghetti, Oxtails, and baked chicken. Those are the items I've ordered over and over. You also get 3 large sides. I love the blackeyed peas, collard greens, and more blackeyed peas, I LOVE them!! You also get the choice of bread between a roll, and hot water cornbread, I choose the hot water cornbread every single time!!

The potted was not from scratch (box) blackeye peas too sweet, and the kool-aid tastes like syrup too sweet. My first time never again.

I ordered 2 plates 1- oxtail 1 fish. I delivered the oxtail plate to my husband for his lunch while he was at work last night. He said this morning those weren't oxtails in my order they were neck bones so as I went to put up his left over I said those are neck bones. When the restaurant opened I called to let them know what I received I was instructed to send pictures which I did and was told they needed to see what was in the plate. I sent them the pictures I had and was greeted with a ma'am and attitude! I've been here on several occasions and the drive is almost a hour. Poor service when you're selling beef neck bones as oxtails.

My wife came home saying her friends told her this was a good place to eat. I had my doubts because I usually do not agree with them.Madea's hits it out of the park! The food is set up cafeteria style. As soon as I saw it, I wanted everything!!! I got beef tips & rice, chicken & dumplings, chicken Tetrazzini, and peach cobbler. The beef tips were tender and seasoned perfectly. The rice was cooked perfectly (warning I will say that word a lot). The chicken Tetrazzini was the best I have had in a long time!!! The chicken and dumplings are officially my favorite! Most places give you lots of dumplings and a little bit of chicken. Not here! Lots of chicken, lots of dumplings, and lots of flavor!!! The three veggies we got were sweet potatoes, cabbage, and mac and cheese! So good. Everything was perfect!I do not normally give 5 stars but Madea's deserves 10!
