I decided to see what new soul food restaurants would pop up and I came upon Kendall's. I had pretty good reviews and the poor reviews were due to new restaurant hiccups seemingly. The restaurant is easy to find, it's in front of a bus stop! Parking is relegated to meters or garage parking. When I dined, homeless people were loitering in front of the restaurant; one asked me to buy them food on my way out. Going into the restaurant, I was greeted by the chef, and we chopped it a bit about where we're from. He's from Ohio. I perused the menu and selected the fried catfish with a fried drumstick; for the side, I went with fries. My wife went with the oxtails with sweet potatoes and mac and cheese. Unfortunately, the green wasn't ready yet. I do wish the menu had prices listed, I had to ask about the prices. I paid $24 for the oxtails and about $18 for the other entree. The oxtails were delicious, the flavor was savory, and the meat was tender. The pieces were fatty and it would have been nice to have more. I think you can pay to add more pieces if you wish, however. The sweet potatoes were too sweet for us, and the Mac and cheese was good, but I could taste the roux that was used to make the mac and cheese; if you don't like your mac and cheese, just be mindful of this. However, the flavor was good, and it was well-cooked and cheesy. The rice was flavorful. The catfish was perfectly fried, seasoned well, and very tasty. It was very hot and stayed firm when I picked it up to eat with my hands. These fillets were large, and I was served 2 pieces. I liked this meal a lot! The fries were good, too. The fried chicken was fried perfectly. The skin had a nice flavor,r, and the temperature was ouof t the grease hot. However, I agree with the famous food critic Keith Lee that the fried chicken is at 7.5. I would come back here!

As soon as you enter you're compelled by the beautiful dinning room to sit down and wait for a waiter to arrive. Don't make the same mistake as me and sit for 10 mins ignoring the order window and menu at the end of the room near the kitchen entrance. I ordered the jerk chicken, sweet potatoes and potatoes salad. Was kinda bummed as it seemed like everything was just warmed up in the microwave. My sides were hot on top and cold in da middle. The jerk of the chicken was more just the marinade vs a smoked jerk chicken that I would get somewhere else. The flavor of the sides were spot on. It's a solid 4 stars minus 1 star for cold food.

Great service from the time you walk in to the time you take your last bite. It was the best decision for the after-Church on Sunday meal.

When you walk in the place is very clean and they have taken a minimalist approach to decor. Kati took my order and she was super helpful and informative. She let me sample the Mac and cheese and sweet potatoes which tells me they were premade but delicious. I ended up ordering dat dam salmon and it was delicious. I loved the cheesy, garlicky yummy to my tummy sauce on the salmon and shrimp. They don't have dessert on the menu but their sweet potato did the job. It was so good. I also had some Mac and cheese and it was just heavenly. I'll definitely be back to try other things on the menu. Unfortunately they didn't have any fruit punch koolaid but the fresh squeezed lemonade was good. It wasn't too sweet or too tart.

First off, I was really excited to try this spot for a true soul food experience. I don't make it to Dallas often, but after the Mavericks game, we decided to stop by. Unfortunately, the experience fell far short of expectations. To start, we had to wait 20 minutes just to place our order because the cashier said she was backed up and needed to get other orders out. There was no apology for the inconvenience, no offer of a complimentary drink--just an indifferent attitude. We ordered catfish, mac and cheese, cabbage, greens, chicken, and oxtails. Let's just say the greens were the only highlight. The cabbage tasted overly sweet, the mac and cheese was just mac--clearly, cheese wasn't invited to this dish. And the oxtails? A complete disaster--cold, tough, and inedible. I literally left them on the table when I walked out.To make matters worse, the cook actually came out to ask how the food was, as if he didn't know what he had just served. When I told him my oxtails were cold, he had the nerve to ask if I wanted him to warm them up. Sir, after waiting 45 minutes for cold food, absolutely not.Beyond the food, the atmosphere was just off. People were staring through the window while we ate, coming in and out like it wasn't even a restaurant. And let's not even talk about the disgusting bathroom--completely unacceptable.I honestly don't know how this place has a 4.5-star rating, but based on my experience, I won't be back. Please do better. And for the love of God, get some curtains.
