Food was definitely good. Hubby and I both had plate lunch. Entree and 3 sides plus bread and dessert! Not being a local wasn't greeted and told to sit anywhere when we came in so I had to ask and also had to ask for a menu. The waitress was however nice but busy. Otherwise was just what we expected after reading other reviews.

Looks like Garry H. beat me to Jake and Dorothy's. Except, I think the smoking section is gone....dammit. Part eatery, local hang out, liars club breakfast, and pie spot. GF and I spent the night in Stephenville before a Sunday trip to Abilene to pick up our new kitten. Coffee was excellent and so was the old men sitting nearby talking weather and other touchy subjects. Reminded me of where my dad used to hang out in Dripping Springs, Texas. We're settling into a booth making breakfast decisions. Two eggs for me; one for her. We both had hash browns. I asked the waitress if the bacon was pre cooked. She indicated it wasn't. Asked for soft and described what I wanted; it didn't go well. I'm personally not seeing why this place made any Texas Monthly list. Best bites for me was the biscuits with cream gravy. They also did manage to cook our eggs to order. Maybe I'm just grumpy about the burnt bacon. But, I can think of many small town restaurants that can represent way better on the the breakfast vittles.

Husband wanted to go here at last minute. I used to love this place but within the last year, the food doesn't even come out hot even if you ask for it to be hot it comes out barely lukewarm so I ordered the one item. I didn't think they could screw up that bad and that was biscuits and gravy. The biscuits were lukewarm, and the gravy was Luke Warm so I sent the gravy back and asked them to microwave it to make it hot and that's what I had for breakfast because I don't trust them enough to get hot food when I'm paying for hot food. I love the waitresses. I love the vibe of this place, but they need better cooks.

Great "home cooked" food and "home" feel! Reminded me of sitting in my grandparents kitchen, smelling the delicious aroma of a meal being prepared with love. The food gave the same reminder. I had the chicken fried steak and it was as good as "grandmas"! My young daughter, who normally has a small appetite, had the BLT and she ate every bite! Our waitress reminded me of family serving at a big gathering, just naturally and joyfully making everyone feel comfortable.

This place has been my favorite for a long time, my family even knew the people that owned it!! And the chicken fried steak is probably one of the best i've ever tasted. i just wish their fries weren't so greasy!!

Love their Chicken fried stake Their lunch portion is perfect the give you 2 sides and salad bread and desert for less then 8 dollars. We just to come with my suegro every time we come to visit him. today we visiting his grave and stop to have lunch to remember him. Personal is very friendly and they have a great costumer service. Also Tuesdays from 5 to closed Cheese burgers for 1.85

I had their chicken fried steak with their "waffle fries," and let me tell you it was so terrible, steak was absolutely just fatty and gritty. The fries were just flat out bland.The server had a fake attitude towards us like we weren't welcomed... the one thing I can give them they can make an okay pie.

Best place for pie and coffee around. The service is always great and the staff extremely friendly. Definitely old-school diner feels and food, but some of the food is pretty good with some additional salt added at the table. Love that it's a family business and they all have great respect for the owner.

Used to be better quality food. Has deteriorated. I had cheeseburger and side of onion rings. My friend had regular order (not AYCE or not Senior portion) with only waters to drink. Bill was an outrageous $37+. $41+ with small tip. Service was also spotty. Way way too expensive with low quality of food. Burger was overcooked. Onion rings cold. Catfish was pathetic. Not returning.

I had not eaten there since my sophomore year of college back in 1995. It was great, friendly waitstaff and the food was solid. Crispy thick bacon, my son loved his pancakes. Exactly like I remember, definitely glad we stopped by.
