Dos Juanitos Mexican Food

What a gem! We moved here recently and have been looking for regular spots - I think we've found one! Delicious, reasonably priced and authentic. The servers were so kind, especially to our wild child toddler we will be back for sure!

Came on a Saturday around 12:30 pm. Wasn't too busy. They gave us chips and salsa. The chips were good. The salsa felt it was missing something. The service was ok. Restaurant is cute though, it's not super big so if you're trying to go with a big party it might be hard. I ordered "flautas" but here they call it rolled tacos (something like that). My husband ordered the chimichanga. And my two kids shared the enchilada plates. (They didn't have the sour cream sauce that my kids like so we tried this cheese one. It was ehh.. looked like melted mixed cheese. Anyway , I took pictures but lately I can't take them without my kids scavenging it first lol. The portions are ok. The rice and beans were probably my favorite thing. My husband did said he felt his portion was quite small for being a chimichanga. I would say I'll give it like a 2.5 stars. My flautas were small too. Overall, it was ok. But maybe they're known for something else. Also we thought it was going to be Mexican but apparently it's cal-Tex food.

We love to try new taco places and new restaurants focusing on Mexican food, so we popped in to Dos Juanitos to check it out.As it turns out, this is a difficult first review to write.I have to start with this: I've read that this is not Tex-Mex, it is Cali-Mex or some say SoCal Mex as I have seen their Burrito supporters say in their Google reviews. I can only say that I didn't find it to be anything like the Baja Mex or SoCal Mex I've eaten. True, it's been some years. I definitely didn't find it to be Tex-Mex either.Anyway, try and look at a menu before you go. Ordering at the counter is difficult. The menu board is small print and there are many as in a lot of items. They have a small paper to go menu that you can go sit down and take a look at; but if you have questions - well, there you go.Burritos, in retrospect, must be their thing. This is what they probably are best at as there are 22 on the menu and that doesn't include the 10 they have for breakfast. They are the the home of the California Style Burrito, the sign says.I guess that's what we should have tried.Instead I ordered a Chimichanga for which you can have a choice of meat. I ordered Asada. At that point, ordering broke down first when she was sure it didn't have beans but beans were on the menu so I thought maybe they were on the side ... ($9.50)Then my husband, who gets easily confused, got caught in the ole upcharge scenario, which of course I couldn't explain to him.He just wanted a chicken tostada and the 3 rolled tacos. But she got him to order the combo plate of rice, beans, chicken tostada + rolled taco AND the 3 rolled tacos. It went from $5 + 4.25 to $10.95 + 4.25. My husband gets agitated if things escalate with his dementia, so I had to to let it go after I could see he didn't get it. It's just fast food after all. But I was unhappy.As it turned out, he didn't like the rolled tacos because he usually doesn't like taquitos or flautas and these weren't even as good as either of those and she insisted that they were different. So, the rolled taco was either not a rolled taco or a terrible version of a taquito according to my husband. It was a wrapped corn tortilla fried fairly hard with almost zero meat in it and the cheese was not melted on top. Instead it had finely grated cheese tossed on the guacamole sauce. (See photo of 3 rolled tacos). His chicken tostada was soggy, which I guess they expected because he got an extra shell. He said the beans were delicious. The rice was also good. Together, he enjoyed it.My Chimichanga was fried perfectly and the fried dough was yummy; but there was very little in the interior. What little beans there were (and yes they were inside) WERE delicious but the asada strips were chewy. I couldn't really make out anything else. They put guacamole sauce on top, maybe a tablespoon of Pico and some iceberg to the side. Sadly, I can only eat so much yummy fried dough with beans, guacamole sauce and salsa verde.Dos Juanitos had a salsa bar that really lacked game. The salsa verde was good, but the other salsas were watery today at least. The jalapeños en escabeche was typically good. The bar had a tub with huge pieces of radish in water and another of sliced cucumber; but no cilantro, onion, or additional Pico de Gallo. Lots of lime, though. So is that franchise dictated? Typical Cali? I don't know. Our waitress was personable and talkative otherwise. The restaurant was clean. The tables and chairs are very comfortable. There is parking along the side as before at this building.My husband wants to return and give their Burrito a try, if that's their specialty, either for breakfast or at lunch sometime and give the Salsa Bar a second chance!

Absolute best Mexican food in Waxahachie. Consistently delicious and authentic! Burritos are so good, the birria tacos really hit the spot!

I Finally found what I needed to finally let go of wanting to move back home to California, a taco shop that serves tacos the San Diego California way lol. What made my experience so much more amazing, was to find out the owners are from San Diego as well. This is my go to at least twice a week. And although I've ordered different things from this taco shop, such as the California burrito and carne Asada fries. The rolled tacos and the shredded beef tacos are my go to every time. I've read other reviews where some mentioned the rolled tacos not being anything like the taquitos/ flautas that they are used to, and I wanna say I have to agree and that thats the point. And it's something that you'd have to be from California to understand and better appreciate the rolled tacos . The shredded beef tacos are worth all the heart burn that they give me . And it's not that the tacos give me heart burn, but instead it's the way i drink and dip my tacos into the red hot sauce as if it's consommé. I gladly pay for a large cup of their red hot sauce. When you enter the restaurant, there's a small like salad bar area to the left where there are like 5 to 6 different hot sauces , pickled vegetables, radish and other things to complement your orders. I most times order via DoorDash , and I love how they pay close attention to my detailed orders and request. The staff are very friendly and welcoming, and I come so often that I've even had the chance to have small conversations with staff and exchange names. Manuel , usually prepares my meals and I just appreciate how every time he sees me come in , he comes from the back to not only make sure my food was prepared correctly, but to just check on me and see how I'm doing in general . I'm usually coming after a long day at work, so to be greeted and checked on means a lot to me. Now that's what I call amazing customer service. The restaurant sits on the corner of the street and parking is decent . I haven't had the opportunity to dine In yet but do plan to do so soon. The restaurant is always clean and well stocked and I've never came in and there not be other customers in there. Anyone looking for California style Mexican food or simply wanting to try some where new, please don't overlook this restaurant.

The breakfast burritos here are big and cooked upon ordering. They make them big and juicy. And they sale them alllll day. The service is really good always nice and smiling. Family oriented. So much food to try.

I cannot say enough good things about his place. First time here was Sunday (2 days ago). Husband and I got the super burrito, mine with barbacoa, his with carne asada. HOOKED. I saw they have breakfast burritos so when my husband asked where he can get some nachos tonight I called and got him super nachos with carne asada and the chorizo burrito for me. I also got the green salsa both times. All I can say is I am SO HAPPY this place opened in Waxahachie and we will be loyal customers so long as the amazing quality and love is in the food. FANTASTIC. If you're thinking of trying this place, I cannot recommend it more. Do it. (I went to take a picture of my husbands super nachos and he had finished them already lol. And they were a HUGE portion)

Very good food...service excellent, prices reasonable,went by to check out because saw reviews on yelp...tried the carnitas (pork) plate comes with 4 tortillas,it was delicious...worth the stop,must try

Honestly didn't know what to expect coming here. But there were 7 of us and the overall price was very reasonable. I had the birria tacos w/consume, my dad had the fish tacos (only downer was it was like fish sticks on tacos), my girls noth had a chimichanga (these things were massive), my youngest chicken nuggets, and my oldest son an omelet (decent size) all and all Very delicious. It was a very clean and respetable place to dine in. The service was GREAT!! Will definitely go again

Staff is very welcoming, restaurant is nice and clean. Food prices are not overpriced. Food is delicious I am very satisfied for my first visit.
