D! What a lovely addition to the restaurant scene in Waxahachie! We love Latin cuisine. My husband's father was a Puerto Rican pilot and recruit during WWII. It was wonderful to discover Plantains, Sofrito, and the use of banana leaves and Latin flavors in upscale cooking out here where we live. Yes!The menu here has sharing plates, soups and salads, sandwiches, lunch specials, street style food, a dinner menu, a kids menu and brunch. This was an impromptu visit near the end of service on a weekday and D wasn't busy. It gave us a chance to check out the art on the walls and just relax with our house seasoned and fried tortilla chips, black bean dip and a nice salsa.Service was sweet and informative and we chose the Trio de Picaditas Veracruzanas appetizer. Three distinct corn "tarts" topped with grilled onions and queso; one each of salsa verde, mole and black bean. Lots of flavor here. Crunchy enough to cut in half and share; but not so crunchy as to fall apart. Only $8! Loved those and enough for 2 people. We also ordered guacamole ($9) to eat with everything. lol It came in a nice sized bowl. Terrific handmade guacamole with tomato, onion and cilantro. Sturdy enough for a spoon. We noshed on all that for awhile and then our entrees arrived. D's has a wide variety of Latin choices from Tex Mex, across the border and beyond. We recognized the use of Adobo, Sofrito and Green Olives with Chicken in the Pollo Guisado which my husband loves and I saw the use of Lamb in a burger, tacos, and a quesadilla that intrigued me. I ordered the Quesadilla Plate with Lamb ($20) which came with a fried ground lamb and cheese filling, Pico de Gallo, rice, black beans, and a choice of salsa. I had the spicy salsa verde. The lamb was delicious; but unfortunately greasy. It had pooled underneath my quesadillas and soaked some of the tortilla. Everything was very good, though, and it was a generous portion on the plate. My husband's Pollo Guisado was scrumptious. Marinated in Adobo and braised in Sofrito with green Olives, the chicken quarter was tender and the vegetables so good. The Pollo was also served with rice as well as two tortillas. ($17)D's Restaurant is well appointed, comfortable with a bar and two dining areas with booths and tables and chairs. The restrooms are beautiful and very clean with plenty of room. We were told this building had been a cotton warehouse at one time. The restaurant is near Railroad Street and the patio is opposite the Waxahachie Creek Hike and Bike Trail. I'm not sure about all of the parking available, but we parked out front!

I'm a little late sharing this review but I'm so glad I stumbled upon this place. It was so good that I went two days in a row! I found this place as I was meeting up with a friend headed back to Austin from Dallas and we needed a spot not too far off 35. We love catching up over queso and margaritas so this place met the requirements.Tucked away in downtown Waxahachie, it looks unassuming from the exterior. They have a parking lot off to the side plus some on street spaces in front. They have a nice waiting area in the front of the restaurant with the hostess stand. I was greeted both days by super friendly staff.Visit #1 - I loved the chips and salsa. Chips were so good that I couldn't stop eating them. Salsa had good flavor with the right amount of kick. We had queso for the table and plantains. I had a house margarita and ordered the enchiladas. Everything was delicious. No notes to offer.Visit #2 - I brought my hubby so he could experience the food. More chips and salsa were eaten and margaritas were consumed. We ordered empanadas for the table (2 beef and 2 chicken). My hubby is still talking about the empanadas and the sauce it came with to this day! He ordered the Cuban sandwich and I ordered the burrito bowl. Perfection! We enjoy Latin cuisine and will definitely be patronizing this business again! Wishing them all the success as it's so hard to find good Latin cuisine in this area!

I wish I had written this review after one of my first two visits as my wife and I were very impressed with the food, the service and the atmosphere. If I had reviewed D after one of my first two visits they would have gotten a 5 (for Waxahachie). But alas, I am writing this after my 3rd visit which would have gotten a 1 or a 2 (2 if I had never been there before, or 1 because I had such high expectations and was so sorely disappointed). We sat down and got our drinks and enjoyed them while eating their wonderful complimentary chips, bean dip and salsa and thought everything was going to be like it normally was. This was not to be the case, as the appetizer empanadas were ok, maybe even good, but not up to the standards from previous visits. Where it really fell apart was with the main course. My wife ordered the salmon medium rare and was given a nearly flavorles piece of salmon which was completely cooked through (overcooked even if it had not been ordered medium rare). My guisado was somewhere between OK and good, the flavors were on point but it like the salmon was over cooked. The service and atmosphere remained good, the kitchen just had a very bad night. We will go back because our first two visits were so good, but the lack of consistency is a bit disappointing. I will raise my review if our next visit is better.

We came here for brunch on a Sunday. The restaurant was not very busy, which disappoints me because this place was super yummy! My friend ordered the omelet and said it was very good. I ordered the sour cream and chicken enchiladas, while they were overall very good, the sauce was more cheesy than a traditional sour cream sauce. I also ordered the D margarita, which came in a fun huge glass and tasted like a classic marg. I couldn't really decide if I liked the homemade tortilla chips as they were pretty greasy, but the salsa and black bean dip were very good. Our waitress was awesome and very attentive. Overall it was a good experience, and I am looking forward to coming back and trying new plates.

Didn't know this little gem was even in Waxahachie. The owners Carlos and Sara are very sweet people and they have a great wait staff. Everyone is friendly and attentive. I really like the burrito bowl but prefer the grilled chicken instead of the shredded chicken. Good portions and they make their own chips. The wife had the sour cream chicken enchiladas the first time and the chicken quesadillas the second time. She raved about both. Also try the hibiscus tea. This is not Tex Mex. It's Latin cuisine. I've never liked black beans but Carlos insisted I try his and now I'm a convert. We also liked their queso. Just chose the no meat one. We've been twice in the last month and will be a regular.

I tried the chicken tenders off the kids menu and they are by far the best ones I've ever had. I will definitely order them again.

Amazing Latin restaurant in downtown Waxahachie! The food was flavorful with a great variety of dishes to choose from. Empanadas, Cuban sandwich, chicken tortilla soup, and my new favorite - brisket grilled cheese. The fried plantains and espresso martini are a MUST. Everything was fresh, and the vibrant flavors really stood out. A hidden Waxahachie gem. Highly recommend for anyone who loves Latin cuisine and is looking for some variety in Waxahachie!
