Stopped by to grab a quick lunch while traveling for work. I probably would have missed it driving by, but had searched the area for food options. It doesn't have a drive through (Google maps says it does), but it was SO WORTH IT!! I ordered a hamburger and onion rings to eat in the car. The burger was amazing!!! Big, juicy, with a soft/grill warmed bun. And the onion rings were hand battered. Really worth the stop!! There were also a few cowboys having lunch... okay, maybe not, but it was pretty busy and a Yellowstone fan-girl can dream!

When I review BBQ in Texas I always note which level BBQ I'm rating. This is not the Snow's, Heim, Franklin type of BBQ.This is local BBQ, and it's delicious. In little hole in the wall, just off the main street of Boyd, TX is one of the better BBQ joints in the area... and certainly one of the very best in Wise County. It clearly qualifies as a hidden gem!Now... let me speak BBQ to you (for all of you that speak BBQ): The pulled pork was served with NO SAUCE on it! My brother-in-law commented that he had never seen such a thing! I agreed, and commented it was a very BOLD move! And it was certainly a strong showing! Not dried out, plenty of flavor, and enough bark to make me smile! If you think you can cook BBQ... that's a very HARD test to pass... and Walter did it w/ flying colors! Welcome to Texas BBQ 101!!While we are on meats... 3 meat platter w/ fixin's for $15.00. Killer prices! The smoked bologna blew us away. Smokey, moist, flavorful... if you have never had it... this place will ruin you for most everywhere else! Jalapeno sausage and sliced brisket were just as good!2 more things made this place stand out:1. Coleslaw. Not overdressed, not too vinegary, not too much mayonnaise, not too sweet! Closer to a salad, as God intended! A prefect cleansing bite when you are moving between meats!2. Potato Salad. Mustard style. Not too heavy, not too vinegary... it was mild enough that you could just eat it by itself! And I mean a LOT of it!We probably each were almost completely done before we remembered they brought sauce on the side! I'm not even gonna worry about telling you there was sauce! While yes, they could use a few fly strips (I can say this about any place that has REAL smoked meats), it's seriously good BBQ.One of the only 5 STARs for BBQ in the area! Well done! Plus, it's #ShopLocal

No words just and expression BUT I did learned something new today I didn't know that grilled rubbery chicken breast was considered BBQ. The potato salad was sour and possibly spoiled, the fries were soggy. Just not what I expected.

Cowboys barbecue is the second barbecue spot that I've tried since moving to Azle Texas. I was there today with Cheyenne and her two small children and we all ordered different things. First we got the Childs play with the chopped meat sandwich, which at five dollars is a pretty good bargain and it will feed two kids. Next, Cheyenne ordered the pork rib sandwich, with fries. I ordered a two meat plate and got chopped brisket and pulled pork with potato salad, fried okra, and barbecue beans. Cheyenne raved about the pork rib sandwich, and I must say it looked delicious. The two-year-old & the four-year-old consumed just about all of the child's plate, and the four-year-old claimed it was great. My plate with the chopped brisket & the pulled pork was perfect. Part of that was due to the really tasty barbecue sauce that was provided with the meat. The okra was cooked perfectly & it was crisp and not soggy. The potato salad is a mustard-based salad, which I prefer personally, my only criticism would be I would've liked more texture in the potato salad because it was mashed potato salad, and I prefer chunky salad with pieces of potato and eggs easily seen in the salad itself. I like a little Paprika in my potato salad also, and while there may have been some I couldn't actually taste it. But overall the salad was pretty good, and the baked beans I had we're not bad either, but I prefer Black Eyed Peas myself as a choice. The place was nicely set up and easy to get to, and clean. The folks who own and run it were very friendly, and I look forward to going back and eating some more of their good barbecue. I highly recommend that you try this place, because I know you'll enjoy it.

I had the brisket grilled cheese sandwich with fries. He had the Tayter with brisket, baked beans, cheese and BBQ sauce. I didn't know brisket could be tender! The BBQ sauce had just the right amount of kick. Make sure to say hello to the staff. They treated me like family from the get go!

Saw 5 star reviews online and put Cowboy's on my "must try" list. A 2-hour trip to get there but a disappointment. No smoke ring, irregular texture in the pound I got. Not real tender. Taste like roast beef sliced with some liquid smoke flavor. PS - I asked for a bitesize sample before purchase but they said no. I trusted the reviews. :(

I had stopped several times to try their ribs. They were always out. Finally got by early enough to get some ribs and was terribly disappointed. Not only did I have to wait 20 minutes for my order, because they said they lost my ticket, the food was microwaved! Which after she found my ticket she forgot my order again in the microwave. The waitress was very rude when I complained. Told me I had not been waiting that long. She said she could check the ticket. Which I told her to go ahead check the ticket. Definitely won't be going back. And will tell everyone I know.
