I like this place!!!!!Cancun's is an Ameri-mex restaurant, and they ain't kidding when they say Ameri-mex.Half of the menu is Mexican. Half of the menu is USA cooking - southern style.Half the customers eat Mexican. Half eat American. When the staff ate their dinners at the end of the shift, half ate Mexican, half ate American. It is also a very strong personality place that is totally driven by the character and personality of the founding Bahena family. The entire back wall is a mural of Jesus leading his flocks. There is Christian art all over the walls. There are inspirational quotes all over the walls.(My favorite: 'Don't flee the storm - Learn to dance in the rain.)*The restaurant is mobbed. It is mobbed because they offer massive amounts of really good food and for a price that is practically Christian charity. The crowd is totally diverse - with about 60% working class white anglo, 30% mexican, and 10% black.Lots of people were ordering the daily special which was a fried catfish plate.Fried catfish that gets the vote of the crowd? Sign me up!It is a Mexican restaurant, so you start with chips and dip.(How cool is that on a catfish dinner?)Then because they are also a Southern place, you also get a Southern style USA salad with iceberg lettuce and saltines in packets on the side.(Salad with saltines? How cool is that?)*Side note. One of my favorite dishes at home is saltines and salsa.Being served that on the road made these people my friends for life.*This is a Southern place - and Southern means the customer salts and peppers at table. So the Bahena's food is mild. Really really really really mild. This is not a cooking defect. This is an artistic decision and how they do business. I had to put salt on my tortilla chips. When my fish came, I had to salt AND pepper AND sprinkle sport peppers AND dip the fish in tartar sauce. How mild was the salsa? The closest those tomatoes had ever been to a chile was when they drove by a supermarket in the truck while being taken to the restaurant. But the food is still good.My catfish serving was massive. It was beautifully cooked.Firm textured. Magnificently fried. Not a drop of grease or heaviness.A completely successful catfish. So I just ate mild catfish and was happy.Naturally, the catfish comes with hush puppies. And there is this lovely dish of salsa still waiting from your chips and dip.Hush puppies dipped in salsa???????Another happy experience that should go on your bucket list.So I had a great time at Cancun's.I had an even better time when I saw the bill.I ate a reservoir's worth of fish AND salad AND hush puppies AND onion rings AND a baked potato AND a whole bowl of chips and dip AND my drink -and paid less than $12.The only way to get a cheaper deal on food is to go to the Salvation Army soup line.So the place is fun, the food is good, the servings are huge and the price is fantastic,How can you go wrong?

I travel all over the US and eat in many restaurants. The service is really great. Anyone who says otherwise is never satisfied. The food is very good.

This is our local go-to fave spot. Walk in and you're instantly greeted, made feel welcome, you seat yourself wherever you deem comfy and get ready for bottomless chips and salsa. We started out loving the food and staff at their DeSoto location, then Waxahachie and now for the past few years Red Oak. They mean what they say Ameri-Mex. Very original menu items.... from chicken fried steak to Chile relleno plus daily specials. And they serve breakfast!!

Where to begin...The water... Tasted fucking weirdThe salsa... A can of chunky tomatoes threw in a blender with onions and hoped for the best, they were not successful. The ground beef... The blandest ground beef I have encountered. Mexican food is supposed to have flavor. The beef enchilada platter... If you like hormel fake meat chilli on top of some bland beef wrapped in tortillas, this is for you. The chicken tacos... If you like chicken that Tasted like they grabbed some frozen tenders microwaved them with no spice, chopped them up and threw together haphazardly, this has your name on it. Beans... Didn't even want to try those. Rice... Mediocre at best. UT Orange in color, kinda put me off. OverallDONT GO HERE IF YOU HAVE TASTE BUDS

People were really nice, place smelled like fabuloso, but considering what some other restaurants smell like I'll take this clean one. This place had a lot of different types of food Tex mex, southern home cooked, amongst others. My husband had chicken fried steak: bland and to much thick white gravy, tons of breading. I had some sour cream enchiladas, it was ok. What was really good was their chips and salsa. The cashier gave us some coupons for next time discounts. We took them but don't think we'll be returning.

This place is very good! Their fried catfish is the best in Red Oak. Prices are extremely economical. The chef salad is amazing. They fry up the bacon fresh and put it on the salad hot- very good. The ham is cut straight from a whole ham. I haven't had one better anywhere. The guacamole isn't that great. Just okay. The chips and salsa they give free on the table is addicting - we come here just to get that and order some to take home. We can make ourselves sick on just chips and salsa! The burgers are very good and cooked fresh to order. Very big 1/3 pound. We haven't really tried any of the Mexican food except for the sopipillias.. They are excellent.

If you have lived south of Austin you'll want to save your money and time. Don't even try it. I'm a heavy set guy and can count on my hands the meals I simply couldn't finish due to lack of taste. (this was one of them) Store bought tortillas and pace for ranchero sauce. Please stick to American food.
