Mai N. "Great Jamaican food! We came very late in the day and there were only a few dishes left. We ordered the jerk chicken and chicken curry. Unfortunately, there were no more rice and bean unless you order the oxtail. Don't know why it wasn't available with the dishes we ordered but we were OK with that. We had to settled for the white rice. The entrees also came with cabbage and a few slices of plantain bananas. The food is packaged in to go boxes. My curry chicken has a little heat but not so much that it is unbearable. I can handle a little spiciness and this was the right amount for me. I tasted the jerk chicken and it has the right amount of heat too. Love the cabbage and plantains too. The place is very small. If you want to eat inside, there is a stool for 1 with a narrow ledge that double as a table. The remaining walls are adorn with items/food from Jamaica for sale. In one corner, is a beverage refrigerator. Standing room only so plan to eat outside or take it to go. There are plenty of seatings outside in a fenced in patio. I can't remember if there are any covered area or not to protect you from the elements. Owner is very nice and friendly. A customer had called wanting to buy the last of the oxtails. Even though it was after closing time, he was wiling to wait for them to come. Great food and great service!"

We had the cheese empanadas for appetizers and the dough was nice a crispy with the melted cheese. We had the Ropa Vieja and Bistec Encebellado and everything again delicious. We also had the Guava and cheese pastelitos for dessert. Waiter was nice and place had a nice atmosphere. Will definitely come back again."

Tony D. "Pretty good Jerk Chicken with rice and peas and Steamed veggies. I was the first person before the dinner rush and for a simple order, it seemed like other orders flew out way faster than me, waiting over 25 mins. For the Price of a small plate $12, it was a pretty decent plate. 3 pieces of chicken. soft and easy to eat. Not exactly smoky for me, gravy was on the tart/tomato side of flavor with a semi decent kick to it. The gravy goes well with the veggies and rice! Rice was cooked nicely. I personally would not go back, considering its equal distance to other places I like more. But its a good option for the area."

It was pricey as most places but I was willing to try them out. Was a little disappointed at the sizes of the meat on them. I got about 5 small bones. Which is not bad if the price wasn't so high. They were cooked very well and tender but It had a weird nutmeg I believe taste that threw me off. I had a side of coleslaw to try and It was ok ."

Vandy H. "It's a vibey place. IMO they specialize more in drinks and appetizers. I tasted heavy tobasco sauce in their jerk chicken. I've never had jerk chicken with tobasco sauce in it. Not a fan. When you enter they welcome you and allow you to sit anywhere. From the time we sat down and placed our order, it took over an hour for us to get our food. Not good!!! We were told that they were out of rice and peas but we kept seeing entrees coming out of the kitchen with rice and peas. So we asked another waitress if they had rice and peas and she said "yes"! At that time we were perplexed . We asked if we could order some and sure enough, we got some rice and peas. Very interesting exchange just to get some rice and pease . Walking in security was a bit rude but the interaction lasted less than 2 min. We skipped paying to get in and was seated with my friends. The place was packed but service was good despite the crowd. We received free champagne, enjoyed hookah, and enjoyed the music. If you like Caribbean food and music, it's definitely the place to be."

I ordered a vegetarian patty and a side of stewed red beans. Both were tastyMy husband ordered the Jerk Chicken Wings with Broccoli and enjoyed it, although the wings were very small. The portion honestly was big enough to feed two! Normally when you eat out at a Caribbean restaurant the rice will be dry and hard! Not the case here at all. It was cooked to perfection! The cabbage was right on the money! The curry goat was beyond amazing! By far the best I've had! Also there was an ample amount of juice! Completely covered the rice which is rare at most places!!! I definitely give this place 10 out of 10! Also the staff were beyond helpful and friendly! I implore anyone and everyone who love Caribbean food to try it. You will not be disappointed!!"

Ronnie B. "Lawd have mercy... let me tell you, if I keep following Dre in Dallas on his food adventures, I'm gonna be eating real good all year long! The way that meat slid right off the bone in his video? I knew I had to put this spot's oxtails on my must-try list. Now, I usually steer clear of rice and peas because more often than not, the peas are undercooked, and the rice is hard. But this time, I took a leap of faith--and let me tell you, it paid off! IT WAS A HIT! ‍ Yelpers, listen up: 10/10... A+++... Certified .The portion size? Massive. This one meal stretched into dinner that night, a small lunch the next day, and another dinner after my YMCA workout. Tell me, what meal out here is feeding you for two whole days? I'll wait... NONE .The mac? Creamy, seasoned to perfection--absolutely divine. I asked for extra gravy on my rice, and they heard me loud and clear. That was hands down some of the best rice and peas I've ever had from a Jamaican restaurant. And the oxtails? Bussin'. No debate. Finger-lickin' good.If you're looking for authentic Jamaican food that brings the true flavors of the islands, look no further--Taste of Jamaica is it!"

Stephanie's Jamaican Kitchen definitely makes the list as a restaurant we will return to every time we are in DFW. It is NOT a fast food restaurant. The food is prepared so lovingly and in exactly the time it takes to be ready, so bring your patience and cash to tip the wonderful staff. There is ample parking in their lot and they have lots of family bench-style seating inside.FOOD:- Oxtails were very flavourful & tasty with a good portion- BBQ jerk chicken fell off the bone- Fried dumplings are exquisite... It just be more specified on the menu. But when I tell you the food is so damn good like omg and you get serious bang for your buck!!!! James B. "Today, my culinary journey took me to the Fire Side Kitchen and Bar in DeSoto, Texas, a relatively new addition to the local dining scene. Curious to explore their offerings, I decided to visit for lunch and sample a few dishes that caught my eye.I opted for the curry goat, served with rice and cabbage. The curry goat, though flavorful with a delightful blend of spices, leaned a bit towards the fatty side, which may not suit every palate. The spices carried a subtle, simmering heat that complemented the richness of the curry, though some might find the texture less appealing due to the fat content. The rice was served generously, with a hint of spice that added an unexpected kick. However, its slightly watery consistency left something to be desired--I found myself wishing I had chosen the white rice instead, which I suspect would have paired better with the goat. The accompanying cabbage was a simple yet satisfying side. It retained a pleasant crunch, avoiding the pitfall of being overly soft or soggy. Lightly seasoned, it provided a nice contrast to the more intense flavors of the curry, making it a good match for my personal taste. On the side, I ordered plantains, and they did not disappoint. Cooked to perfection, they were tender with a slight caramelization that brought out their natural sweetness--an excellent addition to the meal. A fellow diner had recommended the Pineapple Wings, so I decided to give them a try as well. For $10, you receive a decent-sized portion of six wings. While they were well-cooked and tender, I found the flavor somewhat underwhelming. The pineapple element, which I had hoped would impart an exotic twist, was subtle to the point of being almost indiscernible. In hindsight, I would have preferred them to be a bit saucier, as the flavor was more subdued than I had anticipated. The customer service was commendable, with friendly and attentive staff enhancing the dining experience. For those who prefer convenience, online ordering is available, though it comes with a modest 99-cent convenience fee. It's also worth noting that the restaurant stays open until midnight, making it a viable option for late-night cravings, and offers lunch specials on Wednesdays and Thursdays from 12 to 2 PM.All in all, I'm pleased to see Caribbean cuisine represented in this corner of Dallas, catering to casual diners like myself. While my experience had its highs and lows, I'm intrigued enough to return and explore more of their menu, perhaps trying the jerk chicken or oxtails on my next visit."
