Alright, I'm giving this place 4 stars only because they're the most authentic I've been able to find within a 50 mile radius. Parking is limited but never a problem. It's enough for the amount of business in that plaza. Service is blah, I've visited a few times and looks like they have a lot of turn over with their employees. But they have consistently done just alright. They're welcoming and get your orders correct. If you're lucky all orders will come out at the same time, we've waited about 10mins between the 1st plate and last plate is served. Now, what you're really here for; the food. Honestly, it's what's keeping this place open. It is actually good food. Authentic to flavors and roots of the culture. The portions are decent sized. They sale tamales for the holidays and they are delicious and big. Please know This is not the place to be vegetarian or to have any food allergies.

The only reason this is not a 5-star review is due to service. It is slow and untimely. But, aside from that the server was really nice. Plus, the food is authentic, it tastes delicious, and you get a lot for what you pay for both in quality and quantity. As far as food, let's talk about it. It's soooo good!!! I love me some good Guatemalan cuisine, but was pretty surprised the menu had a hodgepodge of options including pupusas. I helped myself to some since I love me some pupusas. They have some pretty wonderful options and everything we had was tasty. They do have menus in English, but knowing some basic level of Spanish might be beneficial when communicating with the server. I always appreciate when I have the opportunity to practice my Spanish because it is a language I very much want to learn a stronger understanding and fluency of as I feel it is important. Worst comes to shove, there is always Google translate.Parking is easy. Lots of it and this restaurant is located in a strip mall.

I was super excited to find a Guatemalan restaurant while picking up an extension cord @ home depot. Finally got some takeout from here last night and it was awesome! We got 2 enchiladas, 2 chile rellenos and a chicken chuchito. Everything was really good and the total was $19. I'd definitely reccomend this restuarant to anyone who has yet to try Guatemalan food. The inside is spacious and clean and the walls are covered in art depicting Guatemala. My take out order was ready within 10 minutes of calling them. My family is Salvadoran but my mom spent the majority of her youth in Guatemala so we grew up eating a lot of their food. I also have several close friends who thank God, have legit Guate moms and I eat their food alllll the time, so I'd say this place is pretty comparable to home made genuine Chapin (that what you call Guatemalans) food. Enchilada - a tostada covered in a large lettuce leaf, pickled beets and cabbage, ground beef, cheese and hard boiled eggs.Chile rellenos - a stuffed chile, battered with an egg wash and stuffed with chicken or beef and veggies. Comes with a great tomato sauce and fresh onion on top. Chuchito - tamale with pork or chicken

I came here with a few friends that said it was delicious. Meh, I'm happy I came though. They service is great and friendly but the food is not. Very bland and flavorless. We had a lot of the dishes that were on the menu as we were a lot of us and I got to try all of them and I was not I impressed. Not sure if it the food from the country that is like that or it was just this place. I've only been to another Guatemalan restaurant but it was in Atlanta and I don't remember it been bland. Overall, I would not come back or recommend it as something I liked but something that is available.

On the recommendation of a friend, I set up a monthly "iDAT" (International Dine Around Town) for a group to which I belong. (Each month we visit a different ethnic restaurant based on the countries where we each have served as Peace Corps Volunteers).Even though the restaurant does not take reservations, out of courtesy I called a few days ahead to let them know we'd have a large group attending. "No problem, we have plenty of room for your group," was their response. (The restaurant has seating for 64 patrons.)Tikal Cocina Guatemalteca proved to be an international star... 5 stars to be exact. Nestled off the main road and at the end of a strip mall, adjacent to Home Depot, this beautifully clean and bright addition to the Nashville cuisine scene is decorated with colorfully painted walls and paintings of Guatemala. Our group arrived in a very staggered fashion (work and Nashville traffic played a role). Yet Francisco, the manager, and his staff were very accommodating. They immediately brought warm, fresh, crispy tortilla chips and delicious not-too-spicy salsa. Throughout the meal they continually replenished the chips in our baskets. and during the entire service, they insisted that if we did not like something, they would bring something else. We did not send anything back!We began with several appetizers. One was black bean and queso dip. When it was served, I did a double-take. It appeared to be simply a dish of anemic-looking white sauce. But wait! A dip or two later (with crispy tortilla chips) beneath this shimmering surface we discovered a delicious layer of smooth, slightly spicy, and muy sabroso frijoles negros (very savory black beans). What a wonderful combination! We also shared Chuchitos, a Guatemalan "pastelito," a corn husk wrapped blend of masa (corn flour and pieces of tender chicken)...Yes, it reminded several of us of tamales. Slightly sweet and fork tender. We also tried Enchiladas Guatemaltecas. This was probably the biggest and most delightful surprise of the evening--a single tostada (tortilla) piled high with lettuce, ground meat, hard-boiled egg slide in half, salsa, cheese, and parsley. But wait! It was also topped with a mound of delicious diced beets that were todavia deliciosa! We had several more familiar dishes that included Hilachas, a tomato-based beef stew jammed with tender shredded beef strands. And by jammed, I mean the bowl was absolutely filled with loads of beef as well as slices of potato, green beans, onions and carrots. It was served with slices of melt-in-your mouth avocado and a side of rice. Also on our table were traditional rolled tacos and Garnachas, (little 3-inch tortillas covered with ground beef, onion, tomatoes, cheese, cabbage and jalapeños.) By the way, none of the dishes were spicy, but all were nicely seasoned. The food was filling, the service superb, the ambiance amiable (muy amable en español), the decor delightful, the prices very reasonable (less than $10 per person). What a great night and delightful culinary find. Two notes of interest: 1) they do not have a liquor or beer license yet so you might want to BYOB2) due to some technical issue, they will be changing their name to "Antigua" in the near future. But regardless of the name, you really must try this new and delightfully delicious Antioch gem.
