What a newish spot serving up some freshly made dumplings. They have a new concept here where you cook your own Xiao Long Baos on top of a hotpot. It was pretty interesting, we waited 8 minutes for the soup to boil on top of the heating pad than another 8 minutes for our XLB to fully cook. Turned out delicious and juicy. We ended up trying out a bunch of stuff and these are my thoughts.Cucumber with Garlic - Thought these were okay. I mean it's cucumbers. I've had better though. (3.5/5)Xiao Long Bao - They are good, juicy and quite flavorful. Fun way to eat especially cooking them yourselves. (4.5/5)Spicy Wonton - IMO the wontons could use a bit more sauce. It was a bit light and not too spicy. I've had better but overall not bad. (3.5/5)Sauteed String Beans - Perfectly cooked and had good flavor. This veggie is worth it. (4.5/5)Dan Dan Noodles - So this is hit or miss. The peanut flavor is VERY strong, if you like nutty flavors you'd enjoy this. Personally for me I loved it, but my wife did not. (4/5)Assorted Fried Rice - This had tons of ingredients in it and it tasted good, quite buttery. I enjoyed it. (4.5/5)Hotpot - So this came with cooking the XLB. The soup was pretty bland (which they told us and gave us salt). We also got corn (wouldn't recommend this, its the starchy one), beef, napa cabbage, and hotpot sauce (sesame sauce). It's a fun concept but not entirely sure how I feel about it. It's good nonetheless but also kind of unnecessary. (4/5)I like the innovation at this spot, and I get where it's going but also not entirely sure how I feel about it. The food is good, prices are very reasonable at around $10-$15 per dish for reasonably portions. Service is also very attentive and friendly. Definitely a spot to checkout in the city of Walnut for delicious dumplings!

We were craving for XLB (Xiao Long Bao/steamed pork dumplings) last Friday so decided to go to our neighborhood Sunny Dumpling House. We first ordered XLB, Beef Stew Noodle Soup, Green Onion Pancake, etc. The server asked us if we wanted to try their new dining concept- Self-steaming Xiao Long Bao and they would give us a big pot of broth for free. I think it's a smart idea because they have the hotpot equipment and they basically put a hotpot on your table and then the server would come and steam the XLB in front of you. You may also refuse and ask the kitchen to steam it for you instead. The only con was that XLB took quite a long time for self-steaming though. Anyhow, the quality of the XLB was still pretty juicy and flavorful. We also love their beef stew noodle soup and green onion pancake. They were so delicious and addictive. We also ordered some fatty beef rolls and chive & pork dumplings because we had a big pot of broth for us to cook. That's why I think their strategy is quite smart. However, they need to improve the broth because it tastes so bland and I had to put salt & pepper into it. The fatty beef rolls and dumplings were okay. Service was excellent and attentive. The servers were very helpful and nice. Recommend dish- XLB, Green Onion Pancakes and Beef Noodle Soup P.S. By the way, they also gave us vouchers for free spicy wonton for the next visit.

The shrimp and pork potstickers are excellent here. They are quite juicy and packed with a generous amount of shrimp in each dumpling. The interior has a clean and inviting atmosphere.

Authentic Chinese spot with various dumplings and other noodle/rice dishes. Came here for dinner with my mom and we got the chicken fried rice, hot and sour soup, and pork and veggie dumplings in chili sauce. The food came our fairly quickly and you can watch them make dumplings in thefront. They have frozen dumplings for sale. The food was all good and we had leftovers which kept well the following day. They provided complimentary peanuts to start and I really enjoyed the seasoning on them. Plenty of free parking and they do accept credit cards.

I believe this dumpling house replaced the old Big Rice next to Vons and Chase. I'm so glad to have another great dumpling house near me, and this one really stands out. The juicy pork XLBs are heavenly, the skin is a bit different from normal XLB, but I love it, they're chewier. There is so much juice in each bao and the broth is so sweet. Also ordered spicy wontons, I LOVE the chili oil here. I'm not a fan of chili crisp/chunks of chili, so this chili oil was perfect for me. It's chili infused oil, so you get all the spice and flavor without biting any chili or chili seeds. The photo I took was before mixing, with the chili oil at the bottom. The beef noodle stew is on the lighter side, but it was still very delicious! The choy was perfectly cooked and the noodles are a great texture. They warned me that the beef noodles were spicy, but it was on the more mild side for me if you have low spice tolerance it won't be a problem. Service was quick and we also received a voucher for free wontons on our second visit! I'm excited to come back soon. Inside is very spacious and they can accommodate larger parties as well. Prices are reasonable and maybe even a bit lower when compared to other dumpling houses, just going off of my memory. Please give this dumpling house a visit!! 10/10

At first glance, the restaurant seemed very clean and traditional looking. Before seating, the servers warned us that service was going to be delayed a little because of the high volume of people. In reality, the service wasn't too slow but definitely could see they were busy. The food was overall pretty good! They started with mala peanuts that had a nice kick. It was an exciting change from the typical salted peanuts. The sautéed green beans tasted different from other places (a little sweeter), but still enjoyable. The Dan Dan noodles and spicy wontons were great and not too spicy (which I enjoyed since my spice tolerance is not too high). The fried rice had a nice flavor and good amount as well. The soup dumplings had a good flavor but not consistent since some dumplings had little to no soup compared to others. Finally the pork moon cake had a flaky crust with well seasoned interior.Overall, I had a great experience and the food was delicious with a reasonable price! Would definitely return again to try other dishes.

Came here during their grand opening special and got free XLBs for each person in our party! They tasted very good, even better because they were free! Nice interior with lots or room/tables. The workers here are very friendly. We ordered several dishes and all were very good. Beef noodle soup had a good broth and portion size. Beef could be more tender, but still good. The pan fried pork dumplings were juicy, flavorful, and had a nice outside crust. They also give complimentary salted peanuts, which I love. Unfortunately our previous place for dumplings, Queens Kitchen, is gone. But this place is a good replacement. We'll be visiting again!

The xiao long bao journey continues! Yet another dumpling place in the area and just based of my first visit it's a good one! Not much to say about ambiance, the place is clean and well lit and comfortable, though you could tell this used to be a Korean place (I think it was Big Rice) due to the ranges and induction stoves built into the tables. The service was friendly and enthusiastic and kept speaking to my wife in English ^_^ Apparently we looked like the ABCs we are. We ordered XLB, pork fried rice cake, hot and sour soup, and spicy pork wonton this time around and all the dishes definitely had their own little twist that made them memorable.Xiao Long Bao - This is the most important one for me and it's definitely up there. Some key things to note about this one are:1. There is some serious collagen in the soup. Hands, lips, whatever that soup touches ends up sticky. This was more the case in the frozen ones my wife brought home last week than on this visit, but definitely some bone broth, or pigs feet or something going on with the broth, so that's a big plus.2. The skin of the dumpling is not your standard xlb skin. There's a little bit extra in there somewhere that gives it just a little bit of bounce, almost like they added some tapioca powder. Now, the frozen ones we brought back last week had some minor wrapping issues (a few popped while steaming at home due to some unfortunate folding) but the skin itself is very nice. Note that we didn't see any issues today so there might either a consistency issue or they fixed the problem.3. The base flavor is savory and salty, light on ginger, not as much sweetness. Many XLBs I've had at restaurants tended towards the sweet, this place not so much. They lean into the savory richness of the soup and it works. Different taste profile, still enjoyable.Overall, great XLB. As a frozen XLB, I'd still take the ones at Meet Here just because they're cheaper and have a ton of ginger, but these are a close second. At the restaurant, these are definitely up there. I might like these better than DTF, but it would definitely be a taste preference thing.Pork fried rice cakes (Chao nian gao) - Solid dish, three things to note: 1. The nian gao has a lot of wok hei. Not much to say there; wok hei is great.2. The pork was very tender throughout the dish with a mix of fatty and lean pieces. 3. We had a pork bone at one point, and noticed that the pork was cubed into very small chunks. That makes us think that the cut of the pork might be spare rib and is most likely not shoulder (no bones). Surprising that they're using a more expensive cut of meat, but it works.Hot and Sour Soup - This is a very unique hot and sour soup and I liked it quite a bit. My wife is on the fence, which is a good thing since this is very much a taste preference issue. The key differentiator for this one is that the spiciness of this soup came from chili peppers and not white pepper as is the norm. As such, the spice penetrates a bit deeper and the natural sweetness of the peppers gets into the dish. Definitely a different taste profile and different type of spice. I'd go as far to say that this is my second favorite hot and sour soup in the area outside of Luyu Dumplings. Definitely worth a shot.Spicy pork wontons - Satisfying for sure. The wrappers had a slight bit more chewiness than you'd expect and, even though the meat seems like the same meat as the XLB, the sauce is a bit sweeter. These go down easy and quickly, not a lot of spice but still fragrant. Solid dish!Overall, this place was actually pretty impressive. I would definitely come back for XLB and recommend people try the hot and sour soup for sure. Interesting takes on the food help this place stand out more than you'd expect. One big caveat is that there was a difference in the quality of wrapping from last week to this week, so I'm thinking that they're still getting their system down. They definitely have the foundation to make it work if they iron out a few kinks though!

This is a cute little dumpling spot in Walnut! They are in the Vons Plaza on Lemon and La Puente Rd.My friend and I went for an early dinner (5:00pm). They were not busy at all. We were greeted at the door and seated immediately. The restaurant is very spacious and clean. Their menu is simple with a few items in each category. We ordered the pork XLB, chives and pork pan-fried dumplings, garlic cucumber, and green onion pancake. Everything came out piping hot! The pork XLB had a thin delicate skin and a bit of tasty broth, but it was overall average. The chives and pork dumplings were quite tasty! These also had a thinner and chewier skin. The filling was seasoned well, but I noticed both of the dumplings were smaller than other dumpling spots. The garlic cucumber was refreshing, and the shredded green onion pancake was enjoyable. They currently use disposable fork/spoons and chopsticks. I hope they will upgrade to using soup spoons for my next visit. We'll be back!
