Spirit of Texas Craft BBQ

SomeOf the best BBQ I have had since I used to cook and grill for the old Robins Restutant in Pasadena. Great pulled pork, the portions are generous and the beans are killer! Also love the soda fountain!

We went to Spirit of Texas today for lunch about 2:00 pm,for a sandwich with Cole slaw and my daughter had chicken with Cole slaw and Mac and cheese and very was dry,no flavor whatsoever and chicken was cut up for our dog. My sandwich was mediocre with good BBQ sauce but very chewy meat. I asked for an approximate price for a beef rib and was told it would cost me $55 for one. Ridiculous amount. I will give this restaurant a 2 for food and a 3-4 for service. I don't think we will return.Arlene S

The people working there are great. They were very friendly. Asking us about our day and was eager to give us samples. We ordered a bunch of stuff and shared everything. Brisket. GoodPork rib. GoodBeef rib. GoodChicken. GoodPulled pork. Very goodBurnt brisket. FantasticBurnt pork belly. Very very good. Mac and cheese. GoodSpicy Mac and cheese. Fantastic. Green beans. Mushy, decent. Potato salad. Decent. Baked beans. Very good. Sweet potatoes. Fantastic. I will be coming back. The burnt brisket ends were the star of the meats. Followed by the burnt pork belly and pulled pork. The spicy Mac and cheese was the best m&c I've tried from a restaurant. The sweet potatoes are very sweet with a strong butter and cinnamon flavor. They are amazing. This place is hands down AMAZING! Try the picanha and the rib tips. The Mac and Cheese is great and so are the cheesy potatoes with spices. There is sometimes a line but they keep it moving. This place is a must try!!! The employees are also very friendly and attentive!

"How can I help you, Boss?" is a common phrase.I ordered the Pork Belly Sandwich combo ($14.99) and a side of mac & cheese ($5.50). The portions are generous. I arrived Wednesday (11:10AM - near opening). Unfortunately, Spirit of Texas Craft BBQ (Covina) served cold food. Staff is well-meaning, but they're inexperienced. Staff forgot the coleslaw for my combo; a supervisor fixed the issue when reminded. Cashier was also being trained.The location is cashless. Expect to use card for payment. It's also very busy. Word-of-mouth has caused Spirit of Texas Craft BBQ (Covina) to overflow with customers. Unfortunately, I think it's too sudden and employees are faltering. Spirit of Texas Craft BBQ (Covina) has potential but it's not yet ready.I ordered the Pork Belly Sandwich combo ($14.99) and a side of mac & cheese ($5.50). The Pork Belly Sandwich is large and messy. The meat is covered in sticky bbq sauce; its stickiness stuck to everything. The pork belly came lukewarm/lightly chilled. Some portions were tender, but the majority was chewy/hard ends. The bread and meat were cold. The mac & cheese came cold also. Its pasta had good texture (not soggy) but it's a weak cheese flavor. Thankfully, the coleslaw came out fresh and bright. Good ingredients. Staff also gave complimentary cornbread. The cornbread came crumbly and moist.Ambiance is adequate. The location is very clean and large. It's well-ventilated. However, there's no music. There's plenty of seating. Personally, the staff member on cleaning duty was the meal's hero. As I stood up, that staff member helped package my meal, and he quickly offered to clean my table. "Have a good day, Boss."Overall, Spirit of Texas Craft BBQ (Covina) is not worth it.... yet. I recommend waiting before trying. The location is currently inexperienced but they have heart. Keep working hard, Boss.3/5

If I had to choose one type of food to be my favorite it would be barbecue. Something about all that meat smoked low and slow, its low reliance of vegetables to bulk out the meal, and its myriad of choices of great non-veggie sides make it a perfect choice for my tastes.Is there a long line at Spirit of Texas? You better believe it. Table space is at a premium because of that. Not to mention, there's a good shot stuff might run out as it gets later in the day.But the staff is super friendly and helpful. The ambience is authentic cafeteria style quaint food meeting hall, and the food is to die for (and maybe to kill for). There's a lack of decent places to get good 'que around here and I reckon Spirit of Texas might be the reigning champ of all the places I've tried in its weight class.I shall return.

A great spot for Texas-style BBQ in Covina. You order at the counter and they cut the meat in front of you and serve your sides up down the line before you pay.They have a wide selection of meats to choose from including burnt ends, brisket, and chicken. I opted to go for the brisket with a side of mac and cheese, and a piece of cornbread. The brisket was tender and flavorful but a little bit on the dry side for me. The spicy mac and cheese was delicious and had a good kick to it and had plenty of cheese on top. The cornbread was moist and sweet.Service was friendly and quick. They also have a bar area in a separate dining area and lots of seating available by the windows. Pricing is similar to most BBQ spots in the area but a step above the rest as well!

Get the brisket and don't forget the sides!! The spicy Mac & Cheese is the bomb. It's so nice to have a BBQ place in Covina !!! Staff is very friendly.

The employees were very friendly and helpful! The food was delicious! I got the brisket, spare ribs, sausage, macaroni and cheese, and bbq beans! Everything was delicious except the sausage. I didn't care for it, but that's just my personal taste. I would highly recommend this restaurant if you like really good bbq!
