Shabu Shabu Bar

This is the OG spot for shabu shabu in OC for me. Whenever I think of shabu, this spot is my go-to. Despite the popularity of AYCE shabus like House of Shabu on Walnut (no longer open), or higher end ones like Mokkoji on Jeffrey, or Haidilao on Jamboree, Shabu Shabu Bar has served me well since my poor, broke college student days to now. For dinner service, you do need to get there a bit earlier than 5:30pm or else you might wait a bit longer for seats. When I was younger, I ordered their traditional broth or spicy miso broth and added spicy drops. Now that my stomach is older, I prefer the original miso without spice and it's still delicious. I have tried a majority of their protein platters except for the Atlantic salmon. The quality and portions are just right for me. I always order the veggie platter as well because I don't eat rice and really enjoy the type of udon they use. It's quick to cook and very chewy! The pricing is affordable if you stick to the small portion platters or go for the combination option that gives you two protein choices. I often dine with my hungry husband so we order and share the extra large/yoko platter. If you share a platter, you incur a $10 split charge. Service is always top notch and on point. Before you start your meal, you get a bowl of roasted sesame seeds to mash and add to the goma dipping sauce. Their restrooms are clean and organized. I've never had to bring a jacket because the overhead vents work perfectly and they don't overblast the AC. I've celebrated many birthdays here, met up with lots of friends and family here and am so glad they are still thriving after all these years. Amazing Shabu spot! Their sesame dipping sauce was incredible (coming from somebody who usually ignores the sauce). I liked the quantity of meat you get with each order - I got the spicy tonkatsu broth with a medium order of pork belly. The meat was clean and the veggies were fresh. I loved how the staff helps you create a bowl of soup at the end. The ice cream scoop at the end was also great. We'll be back!

Went there for the first time, didn't know what we were doing. I thought they would explain things to us but that was not the case. I tried to cook my food but it was a bit bland. The waiter ignored us the entire time. We could've left without paying several times because everyone was in the back. Definitely wasn't the experience that I was expecting. Won't be back.

First time at a hot pot restaurant. What an amazing experience! The food was so fresh and delicious. Free Sake for "checking in" and also for my daughters birthday. Plus free ice cream at the end of meal in a special presentation to celebrate said birthday! Will be back again and again!

Absolutely love coming here with a friend. Their sauces are so good and soup is filling. Their service is great as well too. Been coming here for years. Rating 4 starts only cause it's pretty pricey and it's not AYCE. There's cheaper places out there that gives you a better bang for your buck. And also because you can't make reservations ahead of time.

Good food!!! Nice broth. Thin cuts of beef which were very tasty. Ambiance is ok. Can't place my finger in it but it just lacked charm.

Fast and attentive service! Food was good and we didn't feel rushed. I thought the price point was reasonable

Portions to price do not equate to value. The raw meat could be seen sitting on the slicer through the kitchen veil. The broth was just water. Waiter didn't correctly take my order as I got the 3 item combo, but only received a 2 item. Placed an order for spicy edamame and never received it. The goma sauce was very coagulated but room temperature. It appears to be store bought. Do not recommend nor will I be returning.

The best vibes and music! All staff are so kind and welcoming! Very genuine people! Sam the Owner interacts with her customers and thanks them personally for coming in. The food is DELICIOUS!

Absolutely love this place. Such a friendly atmosphere and the food is delicious!! I even come to this place without the fam!!
