Visited Selanne last night, and the experience was wonderful. The 1934 historic home on PCH is even more stunning in person, with an interior design that adds so much character to the restaurant. We started with fresh oysters, and the ice wine mignonette elevated their flavor beautifully. The shaved Brussels sprouts salad with mustard vinaigrette was a delight. I loved it so much that I might try replicating it at home. The house black pepper and thyme loaf, served with a trio of butters, was delicious and complemented the bread perfectly. For my entrée, I had the Chilean sea bass, which was cooked to perfection and paired wonderfully with the potato fondant. I also ordered the wild mushrooms as a side, and they were incredibly flavorful. My boyfriend had the NY strip steak, but unfortunately, he found it slightly undercooked and was a bit unimpressed. For dessert, we shared the almond and date gâteau, which was absolutely divine! It had just the right level of sweetness, making for a perfect ending to our meal.Service was fantastic throughout the night. Before leaving, we explored the upstairs level and learned that it's only open on Fridays and Saturdays. It features a gorgeous private room and an impressive wine display.Overall, it was a great dining experience, and we'll definitely be coming back!

10/10 First let me start with the service. Phenomenal. I don't remember our waitress's name but probably the best service I've ever had at a restaurant. She explained every dish when it arrived and elevated the experience.Secondly the food did not miss. Every dish was perfect. The prawns were cooked to perfection and had a nice chili oil. The "lord Stanley" which is a tomahawk was cooked beautifully and the char on that was unmatched. All side dishes were great additions to the steak as well. Highly recommend on trying this place.

We had a wonderful overall experience at Selanne's Steak Tavern. This spot is off PCH in Laguna. They do have valet parking behind the restaurant, but there is also plenty of street/metered parking if you give yourself a quick moment to look around. The ambiance reminds me of a quaint little cottage or house, as it looks like a house that has been turned into a restaurant. They do have a few different dining room areas. We got sat in the middle of the restaurant where the bar was. The bar area was very alive and popping--so it did make the environment pretty loud. I didn't mind it, but if you are looking for more of a quieter/romantic vibe, maybe choose the other rooms. The service was overall great. We had a lead waiter and an assistant waiter. You didn't have to wait long to ask for a refill, or have your plate cleaned, etc. They even would fold your napkin when you got up to use the restroom. The food was a little slower to come up, but I think that is kind of their vibe, so you really get to sit down and enjoy each course. Overall, the food was great. We started with some soups which were tasty and the black pepper and thyme loaf--which got served with seasonal butters. For our entrees we got the filet mignon with the broccoli gratin and mashed potatoes. The meat was pretty standard--I've had better, but I've also had worse. The mashed potatoes were a little more soupy consistency, but had a good flavor. We loved the broccoli gratin--it was cheesy, had good textures and amazing flavor. We were pretty full but their desserts did look good. There have been other steak restaurants that have blown me away, but Selanne's was an overall great experience and a great spot if you are in the LB area.

EXCELLENT SERVICE / FOOD small little hole in the wall. Nice interior and friendly staff. Looks like a repurposed art house on the laguna beach walk. Parking is a free for all on the street depending on what time you arrive. It's metered. Reservations recommended. Started off with a Moscow mule and speechless mezcal. They boast natural, scratch ingredients. I'll take their word for it. Got us ready and hungry for steak. We love truffles so we ordered the truffle risotto and Mac and cheese. 12 oz filet mignons medium rare. All were delicious and given a backstory by the charismatic Guillermo. He took good care of us and checked in on us from time to time. Can't get enough of the truffle butter. The food was definitely worth the price and we savored every bite. The surrounding area is dead after 7 or 8pm so make sure it's your final stop if you're not a local. Thanks for a memorable anniversary dinner.

Never been down here to laguna, gotta say it was well worth the drive! Came here for our anniversary right when they opened. Cute little house looking restaurant lol. Parking is just street parking didn't have too much trouble finding any just kinda scary crossing the busy street. As soon as we got seated our very nice helpful waiter got us started with drinks. Forgot to take pictures of it lol. Drinks were good not too strong tho. I got the 8oz filet mignon and side of mac n cheese and the truffle thingy. I was worried 8 oz would be too small but with the sides I was pretty stuffed by the end. The mac and cheese and truffle were to die for I still crave for more. The end they offered us dessert we got a nice small free one for our anniversary then ordered another one. The flavors were really good all together. I'd come back here one day.

My husband and I decided to celebrate our one year anniversary here since he had been here before (years ago) and had a great experience. I, however, did not enjoy this experience. While our server and his assistant were great when we had them, the amount of time in between that it took for them to check on us or for us to get their attention was not ideal. Can't say that they disappeared because it was busy because it wasn't. It was a Tuesday night. We also thought there was valet parking but were met with no one in the alley so we had to find street parking. We ordered:- flat iron (husband said it was great)- ribeye (I think it was phenomenal)- roasted carrots (this was bland)- risotto (this was awful - more on this later)- bread (it was ok - nothing special, though the spreads were interesting and butter wasn't brought until we asked)I want to talk about the risotto for a moment. I LOVE risotto and was excited to try it here because they're a Michelin star restaurant. I was so DISAPPOINTED. The risotto came out watery, with a congee consistency. I tasted the overwhelming truffle but that was about it. I hate sending back food but I had to with this one. I don't understand why the chef let that through the pass. Unless, I've been eating risotto wrong all this time? Bread is not offered unless you order it from the menu. I found it strange that they bring out three different spreads but no butter until we asked. I also thought it was strange that the butter was hard instead of soft. The chairs were so uncomfortable. I sank so low that I had to sit straight up just to be tall enough to eat at the table and because of how low I sat, I had to cross my legs around my shin area in order to sit straight up. If I leaned back against the back of the chair, I'd be too far from the table. It was just uncomfortable altogether. As I was leaving, I noticed that their other rooms had different chair cushions. I'm not sure why that is. Overall, I don't think I'll be back. I could dine local for a good steak and better seating.

Came here last night for dinner with friends and had a wonderful time. The restaurant is this cute house, along with a veranda outside (which is where we sat). The veranda was great because it was a bit quieter, and had plenty of heat lamps. Loved the vibes of this place.Service was fantastic, our servers were attentive and knowledgeable; they were always readily available and we never felt like we had to chase them down. The food was all wonderful as well. We ordered a bunch of sides including the Beet Salad, Carrots, Mac & Cheese, Mashed Potatoes, and Green Beans. Everything was delicious, I'd say the Mac & Cheese and Green Beans were my favorite. For my main, I got the NY Strip, and it was fantastic. It was cooked perfectly, and is probably my favorite steak in recent memory. I'd order that again in a heartbeat.I really enjoyed our experience here and would absolutely come back. This is definitely a Top 3 steakhouse in OC for me!

What a treat!Steven and I had a mini getaway in Laguna Beach and went to Selanne's for our anniversary dinner. We had a wonderful experience. The drinks were strong, the food was delicious, and I was blown away by their service. Our server was amazing and provided recommendations for everything and checked on us frequently. Other members of the staff were checking on us frequently as well and were so quick to pick up empty and dirty plates. I even sat my napkin down to use the restroom at one point and came back to a new wrapped one. We were told Happy Anniversary many times and from many people throughout the night. I had the Better Together drink. It was strong but good. I forgot what was in it though. Check out the menu. For our appetizers I had the tomato basil soup and Steven had the wedge salad. I loved the creaminess and taste of the tomato basil soup. Their farmhouse soups change so that won't always be available. We both ordered the 8 ounce flat iron wagyu steak. It was so tender and flavorful! I was excited to have wagyu. We also ordered a side of mashed potatoes to split, and there was plenty of those despite it looking otherwise. I did find these to be a little bland though. We ordered a raspberry souffle for dessert and it was pretty good. They also brought us a mini jar of berry panna cotta as an anniversary treat. It was a nice gesture and I really enjoyed it. Some of their desserts seem to rotate as well.I really enjoyed my food and our experience here, and hope to return one day.
