I came to this place because I heard it had authentic Japanese chefs. Keep in mind, because of this marketing, as well as the fact that they import their fish from Japan, the prices are going to be sky high. It was like $5 for one piece of nigiri, or $30 for a fish collar. This place is very popular, so make sure to make a reservation or come like 10min before they open, as people will line up outside the restaurant.Getting that out of the way... It was a great restaurant in terms of the Japanese vibe and authenticity. The chefs are indeed Japanese and you can ask them questions about the dishes which they will answer skillfully. We did not go here for sushi, though there were many people ordering omakase here. We ordered a variety of their other dishes, including two fish collars (salmon and young yellowtail), the crab stuffed salmon, tempura, and liver. The highlight for me was the salmon collar. Fatty and moist, it was easily the most delicious dish. It far surpassed the young yellowtail, which wasn't as fatty and tasted fishier. The tempura came out hot, but it had such thick batter that I was overwhelmed by the oily taste. A thinner batter would've been better to let the shrimp shine. The stuffed salmon was okay. The crab inside was yummy, but the salmon on the edge was not. I did not eat the liver so I can't say whether that was good.I'd like to one day come back for their omakase experience, where I can talk to the chefs at the bar.

While this place was always raved about. I probably would not return. The service was great and we were confused why there was no wait on a Friday when they opened but it was holiday weekend so we figured people were out of town. Anyways, it was okay but we would not return. Nothing that wow'd us like everyone mentioned previously.

This used to be my favorite spot but unfortunately no more. I believe they changed management but unsure. I waited to write this review for a while now but after 3 terrible experiences here we are. The quality of fish is awful. Some came out reeking and some were mushy. The rice fell apart and the fish is drastically smaller and thinner in size. I did speak to the serve about the smell of the fish, she apologized and said she would bring me a replacement but the replacement spelled the exact same. Unfortunately this place of consistent too tier quality is now a consistent disappointment.

First time trying this place and I decided to go with their 10 pieces omakase set with one appetizer. I made a reservation beforehand because this place can get pretty busy on weekends. The restaurant is pretty small, I think the omakase is only at the counter and there are a few tables for those who didn't want the omakase.I really enjoyed the omakase, the quality of the fish was fresh and the rice to fish ratio was perfect. The bluefin otoro and amberjack were my favorite. The sushi chef was really friendly and I had a good experience.I recommend calling to make a reservation before coming so you don't have to wait.

Felt like splurging for dinner with some friends and wanted omakase. All of us ordered omakase set and it was tasty. They some a few selection we haven't tried before. A little pricey so we wouldn't come here too often but it was a nice meal. We walked in on Saturday evening and had to wait about 30 minutes to get seated. Which is not too bad from what I see in previous reviews. There's a lot of parking in the plaza but it can get filled up because there are plenty of the other restaurants in the plaza as well.

I've been holding off on writing this review because of all the good memories. I remember when it was $60 for omakase - huge thick pieces of fresh and delicious sushi. I used to come for takeout every Friday during COVID, after working all day swabbing at the COVID testing center. It was the one thing I looked forward to at that time. The prices have gone up to over double now and sadly, the quality has completely gone downhill. I saw online that there's a new owner. The previous Japanese chefs are no longer there. I'm not sure if they retired, quit, or were let go but the new batch of young sushi chefs are all Korean. This means tons of STUFF all over the sushi. Gone is the solid, fresh sushi that needs just a dab of soy sauce. Now there's bad quality fish smothered in miscellaneous toppings and sauce that cannot mask the bad flavor. The last 2 times I went, there was a bone in my sushi and the fish was super fishy. I have never in all my life had a piece of nodoguro that was fishy before. It's usually lightly seared. Almost all of the pieces of the omakase tasted old and not fresh and the uni both times tasted spoiled. The $10 uni at Hmart is fresher than this. They don't even have their famous cherry salmon on the omakase menu anymore, didn't check if it's on the a la carte menu still. The first bad meal I had here, I had gone on a Sunday, as they now have extended hours. I thought maybe it's because it was a Sunday and they couldn't get fresh fish. I pulled the manager aside and gave her the negative feedback before I left. Fast forward a few months- I went on a Friday and it was just as bad. $180 for crappy sushi is really unacceptable. I get that prices are up for everything but you cannot raise prices and serve inferior quality sushi. Adding in an appetizer and dessert doesn't make up for it. I'm here for good sushi, not fillers. Raise prices if you have to, but bring back the good fish or you will lose all of your customers. I remember when you had to line up over an hour before opening and/or call like crazy to try to get reservations. Now you can walk in any time and it's mostly empty. Sadly, that was also the last strike for me. Now I'm on the look out for a new sushi place.

I've been to Ohshima many times before but ever since the business has changed hands I started noticing a change in my overall experience. Food quality is still high but feel a bit different than my previous experience. I had a selection of nigiri sushi and handrolls. For sushi, I ordered Amberjack, Salmon, and Aburi Engawa. While I do enjoy scores on the surface of the fish (helps give that melty experience when you eat it), I do think that the salmon was cored too much. The aburi engawa was very tasty though. Overall, the ratio of fish to rice also feels a bit off. While I do like having more fish than rice, it feels like there isn't enough rice per sushi to make the sushi balance. The Blue Crab Handroll and California Handroll were very good and so are the other hot dishes they offer on their menu. The ambiance is still the same and I think the service is the same if not a little better than before in terms of the staff's attentiveness. They have also opened up more restaurant hours so people can dine here at lunch instead of waiting in a long line for dinner.Altogether, the experience was good and I might be just being picky about how my meal went. This place is still a great choice to dine at if you haven't been here before (but if you've been to Ohshima, you'll get where I'm coming from).

TLDR: fish quality seems to have gone down (overly fishy taste) and the servers seem insincereFood: 3/5 some fish are still great like the cod, others were fishy like the salmonService: 2/5 servers are a bit rude... made us move seats. I've been back twice since the new ownership. I tried to give the place the benefit of the doubt but the previous time I was in, one of the servers loudly asked another table nearby if something was wrong and why they didn't tip more . . .Price: 3/5 quality is mostly ok, but the price keeps going up each visitDisappointed because I used to love bringing people here. Probably won't be back until something changes

I was recommended to try Ohshima for their omakase, and it certainly lived. Reservations are recommended due to the limited seating, and the bar is exclusively for omakase--no American sushi rolls here. The omakase was priced at $70 per person, including 10 pieces of sushi and one appetizer. The balance of rice to fish was perfect, and I appreciated that no extra sauces were needed. We didn't try any drinks but had the homemade green tea flan for dessert. I would've liked more fruit, but the green tea flavor was excellent. The staff were friendly and attentive, cleaning up after us when needed and ensuring our drinks were constantly refilled. There's plenty of parking outside, and despite some mixed reviews regarding price, ownership changes, and food quality, I left very satisfied.

Everything was excellent. I made a reservation for me and my husband and they were able to accommodate a same day reservation. When we arrived, we were greeted and seated rather quickly. They don't have a fancy menu but instead just a paper menu that lists their food items. All you have to do is to mark it. The food was so delicious. Really reminds me of Japan. The fish is fresh. If you miss the fresh food from Japan, come here and enjoy their cuisine.
