Came here for the omakase, which did not disappoint. Great food, masterfully made, and excellent service. Not much ambiance, but here it's all about the food.

Tucked away from the bustling crowds, Nana San is a true hidden gem for sushi enthusiasts seeking an authentic and intimate omakase experience. While it's well-known among those in the know, it still feels like a special secret waiting to be discovered. Our omakase journey was nothing short of spectacular. Each piece of sushi showcased the chef's precision and deep respect for the ingredients. The red snapper was delicate and subtly sweet, while the black snapper had a firmer texture with a clean, oceanic flavor. The sweet shrimp melted in the mouth with a touch of natural sweetness, perfectly balanced by its fresh, briny essence. The highlight for me was the toro nigiri--luxuriously fatty and rich, each bite was pure indulgence. The scallops were incredibly tender, with a soft, buttery finish, while the monkfish liver was an umami bomb, silky and decadent, leaving a lingering depth of flavor.Beyond the exquisite sushi, the ambiance was understated and refined, allowing the craftsmanship and quality of the fish to shine. The chef's attention to detail and expert pairings made this an unforgettable experience. If you're searching for a high-quality sushi spot without the typical hype, this is the place to go. An absolute must-visit for true sushi lovers!

This sushi spot is amazing, but there are a few things to keep in mind. The wait times can be long, so a reservation is definitely recommended if you want to avoid standing around. The food, however, makes it all worth it. Every dish is beautifully presented and tastes incredibly fresh, showcasing the care they put into each plate. One of my personal favorites is the shishito peppers--they're absolutely delicious, though the portion is on the smaller side. Still, they're amazing! The staff is warm and friendly, but seating can be a bit tricky, so plan accordingly.

Been eyeing on Nana San for awhile, missed their reservation calls a couple times, I've finally got to try out for my birthday. Nana San is such a gem of a place despite how small and local it is. I got to meet chef David, one of the coolest sushi chefs. We had couple drinks and great talk together. We got bunch of nigiri pieces along with chef's recommendations, and every bite was delicious. Every piece was really fresh, fish to rice ratio was spot on. Chef used different sauces/garnish for different cuts in order to elevate the flavor, and my favorite was the secret truffle sauce. It's really hard to find a good sushi place like this in the area when there are so many options to choose from, but Nana San was so worth it, especially at that price point. If you're ever in town and crave for sushi, this is THE PLACE!

I have been going to Nana San for more than 10 years. This is the all time best, authentic, Japanese sushi bar in all of Orange County.

I forgot to take pictures! I went for a Monday lunch w my 2 girlfriends. We had omakase and sat at the sushi bar. It's been ten years since the last time I was here and I wonder why I haven't been back sooner esp since the food is good and the price is right. The sushi chef is seasoned and he knows his art. Our sweet shrimp was amazing and the shrimp he picked for us were huge. When it became miso soup, we realized that our soup was full of eggs! What a nice surprise. They open at 11:30 but if you call at 10 AM, you most likely will get in without a wait! Will come back sooner this time!

When you are in Irvine, it's always a good decision to dine at an Asian restaurant! Tonight we chose to visit a restaurant that we have gone by a zillion times but not stopped till today! Due to rave reviews we finally stopped in to see why this was one of the best places to stop in for sushi! Tucked away in a stripped mall with Starbucks, subway and cleaners, you will find this small Japanese restaurant. A place where local and frequent guest dine! You know they are frequent guest as their name tags are on bottles of sake! And they know how to secure a reservation at this restaurant when they opened! We were fortunate to secure a seat on a Saturday night at 5:30pm. When we approached the restaurant door, people were waiting to get inside. Fortunately we had a reservation by calling the day of. Others were turned around without reservations or told to come back later at night. The employees were super friendly and accommodating upon arrival and throughout our meal. We appreciated them checking in on us throughout the meal service. As for food, all the food items we had were fresh! None of the fish seem tough or fishy. We both ordered combo dishes that featured salmon, tuna, eel and more. We also order some additional sushi to try some of the specials for the day. At the end they provided us with a palette cleaner sweet and some hot green tea. A perfect finish for our meal! After a great experience we will be back! From our first experience we learned that reservations is important and that they are closed on Sunday!Enjoy!

Good sushi. Very simple presentation and taste depending on what is ordered, but the fish is fantastic. Extremely fresh. The fish-to-rice ratio is also solid. Probably my new favorite sushi joint in the area. While not cheap, it is very "affordable" for sushi. They take day of reservations!
