Holy cow! Central OC - the heart of Orange County - offers some exciting places to eat. Manila Grille, flaws notwithstanding, offers excitement too. Located in a no man's land behind Knott's Berry Farm, MG sits removed from great food centers of the area. The cholesterol clogged artery of Korean spots along Beach Blvd, north of the 91, are a way's away; as are the good, bad, and ugly of Vietnamese venues in Little Saigon. Manila Grille stands as a lone islet on Knott Ave. The tables are stuffed with Filipinos (a good sign). Blacks and Mexicans occasionally place takeout orders (another good sign). From the steam table I selected a two item combo, which comes with rice. Someone overcooked the rice. Mushy and nasty. Alack, the problems continued beyond the rice. The entre Items were barely warm. I got a sisig and chicken curry on my combo. In both I detected the horrifying sight of bagged frozen vegetables. You find few things more unpleasant than bagged frozen vegetable. They prepare the sisig with pork belly and they add too much vinegar. No matter how hard you concentrate on it, you won't be able to detect much pork flavor. They cooked perfectly the chicken in the curry, but didn't bother adding much flavor to the curry. Two chode like longaniza are priced at $5, and they're the best thing I ate at Manila Grille. I don't think they make them in house, but I'm willing to keep an open mind. In any event, I liked them - their sweet and salty porkiness - large chunks of well cooked fat and skin in the mix are nice to chew on. The casing gives a satisfying snap. I didn't get any lumpia, nor did I get the pork adobo. Those two might be the best things they sell. Maybe I could have ordered better. But they certainly could have made better rice, better sisig, and better curry. At the very least, hot sisig and hot curry.

Tastiest and Best Filipino egg rolls all around area. We ordered a 50 pieces tray and it was absolutely delicious! A group of 10 high schoolers tried their Shanghai egg rolls for the very first time and were pleasantly surprised, asking me where they came from? The cost for order was affordable where I would return. This location is off of the Knott Avenue 91 frwy. exit. The parking is sufficient for pick up orders, although it is a pebbled parking, not concrete. There is also sit down tables to eat in, like your "mamas home cooking!" If you do "pick up orders, call in before you drive there" because they have many orders and customers come in. Thereby, you need to be sure it is ready before you drive out to this location. I waited 30 minutes for my order to be ready and it was a surprise birthday party. Save yourself the time, call and ask them "will my order be ready at the scheduled time?" Hence, it will allow you to adjust your schedule if there is an issue. The restaurant does it's best, however the food is delicious so it gets very busy.

I had some takeout from this place. I've had a lot of Filipino take out food over the years but this place is hands down the best. Beef Caldareta so tasty. Lumpia delicious. BBQ pork and chicken skewers juicy. Everything tasted great. Even the next two days we ate the leftovers and it was still delicious and tasted fresh. I'm looking forward to going back.

I love the lumpia and pancit. It was my lunch for at least 2 days! I was eating as soon as I received my order. The service is quick and friendly. The inside has lots of tables and it smells amazing. I have to go back soon.

Was in the area and wanted some Filipino food. This was a great mom and pop restaurant. Very clean and we were greeted right away. Great service and everyone was very helpful with any questions you had. This is what they call a turo turo place where you basically point what you would like from the selections in the steam trays. The food choices change daily and it's a great way to try different Filipino foods. You can get a combo or a la carte items. All very reasonably priced and they give you generous servings. What we ordered: Adobo 5/5-This was my favorite. It had the perfect amount of salty and sour flavor. I like my adobo to be vinegary and this had the right amount.Palabok 4/5-Needed a little bit more sauce on the noodles but great combination of flavors. Lumpia 4/5- A little over cooked but it was tasty.Lechon Kawali 5/5- Hot and crispy with a great crunch. Definitely recommend itMenudo 3/5- Didn't care for it too much. Was too watery, bland and lacked flavor. Not sure if they forgot to add the liver but definitely missing something. Bummed because menudo is one of my favorites. Soup 5/5- Complimentary soup is included with the combo. It was sinigang today and it was sour and had enough zing to make your mouth pucker. It was yummy.Halo halo 3/5 - The ube ice cream on top was great but it needed more fillings and missing the leche flan. Overall we really liked the food and ordered some more to go. Definitely recommend this place and will be back soon to try the other dishes.

My go-to place to order lumpia and pancit for parties. As a turo turo place, I think it's fine. Staff is great and they seem to always be busy but accommodating.

This little spot is sparsely, barely decorated and sports a gravel pit as a parking lot but don't let that deter you. It's a turo-turo place which literally means point-point to the food you would like to have and they do present you with a plethora of options. I ordered some catered dishes: kare-kare, pansit bihon and lumpia shanghai. I added some pusit, chicken adobo, chop suey and bistek. All of them were quite good. A tiny bit salty for my palate, but good nevertheless. I only had one teeny complaint, one of their servers was rather rude and curt but the rest of them were so nice that I'll be back for more. Oh also one warning, the turon they have on display may be reserved so if you're dying for those, I suggest you call ahead of your visit, just in case. Enjoy!
