One of my new favorite restaurants! The restaurant is somewhat small but very clean. Service was excellent and everyone was friendly. There was plenty of parking and no wait on a Sunday around 5:30pm. THE FOOD my goodness. We ordered the crispy Japanese tofu with salted egg yolk and it was excellent. The outside was perfectly crispy and the tofu itself was soft like a custard and it actually tasted like salted egg yolk. The green onions were a nice touch and added some freshness. Also got the stewed pork intestine with duck blood in clay pot and I've been on a duck blood kick so this really hit the spot. The sliced fatty beef belly in pickled soup was also amazing and not too sour and loaded with beef and enoki. The only downside is that rice isn't included which I feel like it should be with these types of dishes. I would 100% come back

Horrible treatment from the waitress wearing the fake navy moncler vest. My family visited this restaurant for the first time and needed a couple minutes to review the menu before ordering and the waitress was threatening to kick us out if we didn't order fast enough. If we didn't have a busy afternoon we would've driven to another restaurant to avoid having to eat their oily disgusting food. Don't waste your time. There are hundreds of spicy chinese restaurants in Irvine.

Kuan Zhai Alley delivers a truly authentic Sichuan dining experience, excelling in bold flavors, premium ingredients, and expertly executed traditional dishes. With half of my family from Chongqing, I can tell you that every single fish dish -- whether steamed, boiled, or grilled -- stands out as a highlight. The balance of freshness and spice in each preparation showcases the depth of Sichuan culinary techniques.Beyond the seafood, their offal dishes are equally impressive. The Boiled Duck Blood, Tripe, and Ham in Chili Broth and Sliced Fatty Beef in Peppercorn Broth are rich, complex, and perfectly spiced. The Stir-Fried Chicken Gizzard and Stewed Pork Intestine with Duck Blood in Clay Pot are must-tries for those who appreciate the depth of traditional Sichuan flavors. Even the seasonal vegetables are exceptionally fresh and thoughtfully prepared. To balance out the heat, finishing off with Ice Jelly in Brown Sugar is essential -- a cooling, lightly sweet contrast to the bold, numbing spice of the meal.Kuan Zhai Alley is a top-tier choice for authentic Sichuan cuisine, offering an unparalleled depth of flavor and an extensive selection of traditional dishes. For those seeking an uncompromising taste of Sichuan, this is a must-visit.

Kuan Zhai Alley specializes in Szechuan food. The boiled beef in spicy sauce were spicy and numbing as it should be, while the sour sliced potatoes were crunchy and has a little sour and spicy taste. The staff speaks Chinese but their menu has pictures and descriptions in English. Ambiance is cozy with high-end seatings. Highly recommended! Join the wait list on Yelp as the line can be very long.

Here is another updated review of Kuan Zhai Alley.I still love the food from here! I don't love the prices, but it's about the same anywhere you go for this type of food in this area. Some changes that I noticed during my recent takeout on 2/2/2025. They no longer have the Cucumber Salad ($13) on the menu. However, you can still order it if you tell the server and they can have the chef make it. They couldn't give me a solid answer why it was removed from the menu, but it is low key still available, you just have to ask. Another item, Chef's Special Chicken Soup was removed and even if you ask for it, they don't make it anymore. I never got to try it, but I saw a photo here on Yelp and tried to order it but they told me no. I tried the Spicy Dry Pot Cauliflower ($20) this time and although it was really good, I don't think that it's worth $20. Other than that, everything that I normally order from here: Fish in Peppercorn Broth Snakehead Fish Fillet ($28), Mung Bean Jelly in Special Chili Sauce ($13), Stewed Pork Intestine with Duck Blood ($22), and Cucumber Salad ($13) are still my favorite!

My family's new favorite chinese food restaurant. We just went for the first time on my birthday and we weren't disappointed. Everything had great flavor, the restaurant has a great vibe and the waiters and staff were really friendly and on top of everything. We got a ton of food and it was all good. We started with the pork belly slices in garlic sauce, which was suprisingly a cold appetizer, but super flavorful and amazing. The mapo tofu was spicy and had my mouth tingling, great chili flavor. We also got the soup dumplings, the shrimp wonton in bone broth, the black pepper short rib, the spicy green beans, the pumpkin cakes and the glutenous rice cake with brown sugar. They were all really amazing and I can recommend everthing that we got.
