Used to visit a lot when i lived in Virginia Country Club area. I love their German Chocolate cake, since we were near by, figured we would stop and pickup some. Unaware that hours have changed, they were closed and cleaning. We mentioned that all we wanted was dessert to go and the owner was very helpful and would get us what we'd like. Unfortunately they were out of the GC. Great service from the owner to welcome people after they are close. Kudos.

My co-worker and I wanted to have breakfast in the LBC so we decided to try this place. We came on a Saturday and I found a parking spot (lucky me); the place was pretty busy and parking was scarce. Waited maybe 25 minutes to be seated which wasn't too bad since we had a nice seat in the outdoor patio. The ambiance: We were seated near the kitchen where it was very busy but with good company and great convo, you hardly notice how hectic it is. I was torn between the quiche w/muffin on the side & the country fried steak w/eggs. I asked the waiter what he preferred and so I went with the latter. The food came out fairly quickly, maybe 10 mins. The steak and country gravy was good and the puff pastry I ordered on the side was delish. Service was great, everyone was friendly. Will def be coming back with my daughter so we can try the lemon raspberry pancakes. 10 out of 10!

The location is the really small breakfast/lunch location. It's a very cool place. The service was excellent and our waiter was very nice. The food was good. The Californian Chicken was good. Made well and very tasty. The vegetables beef soup was flavorful and had a wide range of vegetables. It was a great place to meet my friend for breakfast.

TLDR: A classic diner with a neighborhood mom-and-pop feel. White tile, black trimmings, counter service, and friendly staff create a warm atmosphere. Expect long waits on Sundays, but if you're here for the chicken pot pie, it's worth it. The rest of the menu is solid but not standout. The Food:-Famous Chicken Pot Pie, $13.95, 5/5: We were seated around noon on a Sunday and got the last one--so keep that in mind. The crust is incredibly flaky, the filling is flavorful with huge chunks of chicken, and the seasoning is perfect. This is an ideal meal on a rainy day and can easily be split between two people with medium appetites. A must-have.-Half Deli Sandwich Special, $13.95, 3/5: Comes with a cup of soup and your choice of cake or pie slice. I got a BLT on sourdough--bacon was crispy, and ingredients were fresh, but the bread got soggy quickly. A fair sandwich, but nothing memorable.-Potato Cheddar Soup, 4/5: Thick, starchy, and cheesy. Almost the consistency of potato salad. If you love carbs, this will hit the spot.-French Onion Soup, 2/5: Tastes like French onion soup but lacks seasoning and depth. Feels closer to canned soup than a proper diner-style version. Enjoyable on a cold day but wouldn't order again.-Apple Pie à la Mode, ~$5?, 2/5: I don't know the exact price since it came with the special. If you ask for ice cream on top, know that it'll be smashed into the pie, making it look unappetizing. Ask for it on the side if that matters to you. The pie itself was just okay.-Chocolate Cream Pie, 4/5: Light, balanced chocolate flavor without being overly sweet. A solid dessert option.Would I Return? Yes, but mainly for the chicken pot pie--it's hands down the best I've had. If you're craving that, don't mind a little wait, and enjoy a cozy diner atmosphere, this place is worth visiting. The rest of the food is fine, but nothing else stands out enough to justify the long lines.

This is my go to spot for baked goods and have delicious food in general (breakfast is my favorite). But this is based on my most recent venture. I always get their coconut cream pie for my mom's birthday. My wife said they offered coconut meringue now and we decided to mix it up. Not sure if it was an off day or this is how they normally all do it. But it was all meringue and almost no custard. Literally a mountain of meringue with a thin layer of water custard underneath. I was really disappointed with how their pies usually are. I'll stick to what I know is good and not come back for any of their meringue pies. It's simply not worth it for the cost and what you actually get. But we'll be back soon enough

It's a staple for a reason. I have been coming here for years and it always is perfect. The bakery counter has exactly what you need. I'm not huge on sweets, but their boysenberry pie cannot be beat. Placed an order for two pies a month in advance because of the holidays. They communicated the last day for non custom pies and were able to make it work. I also wanted a modification on their lemon meringue pie and they did it!The service is quick and super friendly. Even when the line is out the door on a weekend and they are swamped with people, the staff is beyond kind. They take the time to make sure you have what they need. They also answer the phone, which is a rare thing sometimes. Cosy and a neighborhood stable. Grab a table or a booth and get ready for amazing plates that fill up the massive plates or sweets.

Jongewaard is a little restaurant on the corner of Atlantic and 37th street. There is only street parking and on the weekends it can get pretty busy. I wish I got my servers name because she was extremely nice and provided amazing service. She recommended a dish from their special menu called the "Cheese Pocket" and it was so good. It was like a cheese danish turned into a pancake with fresh fruit on top and a side of their house made strawberry syrup. The combo came with two eggs and your choice of bacon or sausage. I also liked the salsa that they make. It gave the food an extra kick. I would easily come back to this place!

Bake and Broil is one of my favorite socal brunch spots! We got their vegetarian omelette, albacore salad, and lemon blueberry pancakes. It has also been cold and rainy in socal, so I got a bowl of beef and vegetable soup which came with their famous cornbread! We grabbed a boysenberry pie and enjoyed it as a post-dinner dessert!

A 3.5. This is pretty much famous in Long Beach, and if you grew up near here...you've definitely gone here at least once. I've heard about Jongewaard's since I was in highschool so it's been here for a long time.We got the:- California Club: I don't recommend it. It was a 2/5 for me. It was so bland? I didn't think you could go wrong but I just remember having to add tons of ketchup and mayo to make it taste more flavorful.- Chicken Pot Pie: This was the saving grace, it was a good portion and so good. Perfectly flavored :D The ambiance is super cute and its basically what I imagine when I think of growing up in a small town (which Long Beach is not, but if it were). Everyone is also super friendly and you can see that there are regulars.
