J&G Fried Chicken - Hacienda Heights

A small fried chicken shop in the 99 Ranch Plaza. The brightly lit interior looks nice. Most tables seat 2-4. There are two awkwardly placed self-serve kiosks at the front, but you can also order and pay with the cashier. I had no issues with activating my buzzer at the kiosk. At the end of your meal, bus your own table and return the trays near the trash can. My friend and I did not wait long on a weeknight at 7 pm.FOOD ORDERED - Chicken Cartilage 酥炸雞軟骨 ($6.99). Tasty! These juicy nuggets of dark meat chicken and cartilage were coated in a crispy batter closer to beer batter or tempura batter. The cartilage was seasoned with salt and black pepper, but there was also a mild fragrant and lemony taste.- Spicy Fried Chicken Fillet 川麻雞排 ($7.99). It was good: juicy white meat chicken with a crispy batter. The batter has little crispy puff balls of texture. The seasoning had a hint of white pepper and maybe five spice.I had a bite of my friend's curly fries. They were standard, a bit better than your typical fast food chain.SAUCES ORDERED- Sweet & Sour Sauce 糖醋醬 . I liked it, it was like McDonald's but better.- Buttermilk Ranch Sauce 田園醬. Standard, but good. It falls somewhere between bottled ranch dressing and housemade restaurant ranch. - J&G Spicy Sauce 特製辣醬. I didn't like it. It tasted like chipotle mayo sauce mixed with fermented black bean chili paste.

I'm originally from Taiwan, so I'm very familiar with the authentic J&G Fried Chicken flavor, especially their fried chicken. This time, I got to try the first J&G location in the U.S., and I'm happy to say it brought back those familiar memories--the taste was spot on! I ordered the small popcorn chicken and fried king oyster mushrooms, and both were delicious.The restaurant is spacious, bright, and very clean, making it a great dining environment. The only downside was that the staff were very quiet and didn't greet customers, which made the place feel a bit lacking in enthusiasm. For any business, this could be a point to improve on.

We came twice for takeout, and service was drastically different each time.First time food took a while to come out and was missing sauces in our orders. Seasoning on the chicken was ok, but the fried king oyster mushrooms were really good. Second time, the chicken was good but the fried king oyster mushrooms could've used a little bit more.Overall, I think if you get consistent quality it's a good spot to grab some fried chicken. I'd just double check your order before leaving.

Came here to try some authentic Taiwanese popcorn chicken and was so pleased with my experience! Ordering was easy since there were two self-serve stations (though I think one of them was broken that day). Prices are pretty reasonable- we paid ~$20 for a popcorn chicken, fries, and chicken fillet and it was enough for 2 people. Everything was soo juicy and fresh. Fries had that perfect tempura-y texture and crunch. And the seasoning? YUM. The spicy sauce is good too- not really spicy but adds some extra savory flavor. Parking was pretty easy since it's in a big plaza. The decor inside was super cute and modern as well. I'd recommend eating in the restaurant since I feel like fried food isn't as good once it comes home. Would come back again!

J&G Fried Chicken is now open in Hacienda Heights. It's pretty ironic that they share their origin story of their founder delivered their J&G fried chicken with a "genuine smile, fostering such a close relationship with customers" while this location greets you with nothing but 2 self-serve kiosks. They have some tables and you seat yourself. However they seem dirty and worn for a new business. My boyfriend had their Original Chicken Sandwich Combo ($9.19) and I had the Chicken Leg & Thigh Combo ($12.49). Their combos just mean that it comes with curly friends, no drink. I should have just gotten the sandwich because the leg and thigh still came with bread, and that's what I was avoiding. And I had to go through the trouble of removing it from the bone. This meat was not tender as it stuck to the bone. And the breading had no flavoring. Really disappointing. As I ate this meal, I kept thinking of all of the other meals I could have eaten instead. What a waste of unhealthy calories.

I got the spicy chicken sandwich and my friend got some of the chicken cartilage! The sandwich comes with peanut butter spread inside which honestly is a pretty weird combo for me so I'd personally opt out of the peanut butter when ordering if I go again. I also asked for no pickles in the sandwich but it still came with pickles anyways :') The chicken in the sandwich was very juicy and tender. I'd give the sandwich like a 7/10? If the peanut butter wasn't there maybe like a 7.5/10. It's definitely not a showstopper but a good quick meal if you're in the area!I would not recommend the fried chicken cartilage though. It seemed like the oil was a bit old since the cartilage had like a weird taste that you get when you fry things in older batches of oil? I'm not sure how to explain it but I just wasn't a fan of it and wouldn't recommend it. 1/10

All the things you need are out and self serve from napkins, utensils, etc.Things we ordered:Chicken cartilage- Popcorn Chicken- Wished the texture was more on the crunchy side for popcorn chicken. Appeared more like chicken bites/nuggetsSpicy Fried Chicken Fillet-For a fried chicken filet it stayed juicy and tender throughout every bite. You can taste the sichuan spice throughout. Spicy Chicken Sandwich- Definitely a hit for us. We'd go back for this. Chicken was juicy and complimented well to the sweetness of the bunWe made it into 2 combos which come with curly fries. We loved the texture and cook on the fries. However taste wise is was bland with lack of seasoning or salt.J&G spicy sauce, sweet & spicy sriracha, and Thai sweet chili : the sauces were overall ok. Neither good nor bad. Nothing really stood out.

Loved that they have a couple of kiosks to order from, you can easily browse the menu, order and pay.Seating can be a little tricky, especially because some couples take up a table intended to be for 4 people. For the food, the chicken is good. Nothing special. We ordered 3 combos. We should've just ordered the regular items because the curly fries and the pudding were so disappointing. I mean, who can mess up fries? I thought it would have a lot of flavors but they were so minimal. Their "spicy" sauce wasn't even spicy and the honey mustard was mediocre. Now that I've tried it, I don't think I'll go there again.

Finally paid a visit to the newly opened fried chicken chain from Taiwan. The interior is modern and sleek, super aesthetically pleasing! Service is friendly. You can order up front and then find a seat to sit down to enjoy your food. The curly fries weren't ready at the time the buzzer went off so one of the employee made sure to drop it off at our table! The original chicken sandwich combo comes with a curly fries and a soft drink or you can make it a premium combo, which includes popcorn chicken and yam balls. The chicken in the sandwich was crispy and fried to perfection. The curly fries and popcorn chicken were well seasoned and the yam balls had a nice hint of sweetness with a chewy mochi texture. The yam balls were so good! But a bit disappointing how the order only came with 5. In my opinion, the portion size is underwhelming for the premium combo price. Overall, I do think J&G is a great addition to the area!

I was really excited to try this after having tried in taiwan. When I factor in price, wait time, and quality of food, I just don't think this met up to that bar. I did enjoy the yuzu sandwich and popcorn chicken though it couldve been crisper/juicy like Taiwan. Overall my expectations were just a bit more for the price point thus feeling like a 3.5. You can expect the inside to be your typical tea shop with a decent amount of seating.
