A popular francise in Korea has opened in Garden Grove! It seems there are locations in LA, Northridge, Las Vegas and Utah as well. Not sure if there were more. Halgatteok is an acronym for grandma's garae rice cakes. Garae rice cakes are large, cylinder- shaped rice cakes. Tried these two weeks ago for take-out. GRANDMA TTEOKBOKKIThis comes with the original tteokbokki sauce, as some would say, old school tteokbokki. You can choose the types of rice cakes and also can adjust the heat/spice level. I ordered the garae rice cake, spice level 2, which was slightly spicier than sriracha. But not Yup Dduk level spice. There were about 4-5 rice cakes with fish cakes and a boiled egg. Really enjoyed the thicker rice cakes, which were deliciously chewy. It's meant to be chewier than the typical rice cakes in tteokbokki. Even though it was take-out, the food was hot and the rice cakes were not overcooked. GIMMARI (Fried Seaweed Roll) / 5 pcsThis was good, but so small. Wish I ordered more. This was take-out and I wasn't the person picking up the food, so I cannot comment on customer service. However, I am definitely coming back to try more of their other items.

1. Both dishes tasted delicious, and the portions are generous!2. The spot has fun casual vibes as it is located inside an Hmart!3. There are indoor tables!4. The staff were friendly, and they will give you a pager to alert you when the order is ready!5. Parking lot can get crowded depending on time and day!Note: This spot does not have their own restroom, but there is shared restroom in the food court!Photo: Multteok Fish Cake Soup and Rose Tteokbokki

Friendly and swift service. Tasty bites! This is a great entry point for any non-Korean person who wants to try Korean street food. Their spicy and sweet sauce was on point. However, I have to say level 1 (lowest heat level) may still be too spicy for some. I think they would benefit from considering a level "half" (0.5). That said, for those who love fire spicy, you can achieve that by requesting for their hottest level. I didn't realize that there are 3 different types of rice cakes. I chose the "garae tteok" which is the most traditional version, made of rice. I found the texture of the rice cake very pleasing. Chewy, thick, and rich. I hope they stay true to this quality and recipe for years to come (no dilution/substitution to cut corners/$). On the theme of helpful suggestions, please consider opening one in South OC. Garden Grove was quite a drive away... You've got lots of Koreans, Asians, and K-Food lovers in South OC! Come this way for more business :-)The fried dumplings were nice and Krispy (not greasy). A great side for vegetarians as it is full of mung bean or sweet potato noodles (that's it). But for anyone who likes protein in their dumpling, it was a bit odd. There should have been at least veggies or tofu or beef or pork. This was a noodle dumpling only.In summary, check this place out. It's delish! Wishing this new biz lots of success!! They opened this month (January 2025).

Wow the food here is incredible!!!!! The ttekboki is long, soft, tender, and super fat compare led to other places. You can add cheese, ramen, egg, and also has fish cakes. It was so yummy and portions great. We got a spicy level 1 which is actually pretty spicy (not too bad but probably wouldn't be able to handle a level 2). It's located in H mart. The fish cake soup was also soooo good and larger portion than I anticipated. The sweet potato tempura was also soooo good, and it was crispy/hot on the outside, with a subtle sweet flavoring from the potato. I was so highly impressed from this little shop in a grocery store.

My fiancé and I tried this place during grand opening weekend! It was pretty busy when we went, but we didn't have to wait very long to order or get our food! The service was very good and the tteoboki was so yummy. My fiancé and I shared a rose tteoboki (we got the normal size one that was super soft and chewy- I think it was option 1- with medium spice). We added cheese and ramen in it and it was SO GOOD! I would highly recommend. We also got the fried seaweed wrap (I don't remember what it was called, but it was just rice wrapped in seaweed) and dipped it in the rose sauce instead of the sauce it came with. All in all, it was a pretty filling meal! Next time I stop by, I'll try the grandma tteoboki with the giant rice cakes!

Located inside the H-Mart food court, Halgatteok is a great option for Korean food. I only tried Halgatteok once at their k-town location, and I'm glad there's finally another location that is slightly closer to me in orange county. Came on the day after their grand opening, and parking is a bit hard in the plaza even at around 5pm, but we managed to find a spot. The staff members were nice and welcoming. I got takeout, and they informed me it would take about 20 minutes, which was pretty accurate. When I got back home, the food was still hot which was nice, and I appreciate them sealing the container so that the food doesn't drip out.I ordered the grandma tteokbokki, and specifically I chose the garae tteok as the type of rice cake out of 3 options (the other 2 which I believe are cut into smaller pieces and are softer while the garae is long and bigger). I did level 1 spice because I didn't want it to be too spicy, and it was just right for me, it definitely had a kick to it (and was pretty red in color) but it was manageable. I also got the gimmari fried seaweed roll as my side that came with 5 pieces. The tteokbokki is really good, there were three big long pieces and they were chewy. There was pretty generous amounts of fishcake, a long piece of tempura, and an egg . As for the gimmari, it was good too, it would be even better if it was eaten in-person, but for takeout it still had a bit of crunchiness and I liked dipping it in the tteokbokki sauce (though it did come with its own soy sauce kind of dip). Overall, I'm glad I got to try this place again, and would recommend this location! I am curious about the jjajang flavor and the rose, so I would try those next time.

The spicy rice cakes here are so good. The sauce here is so flavorful and one of my favorite place to get ttoekboki now. We didn't really like the big rice cakes though because it doesn't really soak up the sauce. They also have a custom bar where u can add on to your bowl but it is a bit pricey for that. The workers are nice with explaining the menu. The place is cute and located in hmart.

I love Halgatteok ddukbokki. I tried it in LA last year but it was too far from where I live. I'm so happy this place opened in Garden Grove. It is soooooo good and they are so nice too. I totally recommend this location!!!

a small Tteokbokki shop located in the back of a foodcourt at H mart! i ordered the grandma spice level 1, rose spice level 2 with GaRae-tteok and tempura shrimp. the rice cake texture was perfectly cooked and chewy. i kind of just wish the rice cakes were boiled with the sauce so it absorbed in the thick rice cakes. both sauces were pretty good, albeit a little runny. the grandma spice 1 was spicier than the rose level 2. tempura shrimp was hot and crispy. overall, pretty good place but i wouldnt stop in again unless i was already shopping at h-mart, esp with so many other korean options nearby.

Delicious tteokbokki! We got the rosé with garaetteok and grandma's with miltteok, both spice level 2. We added a couple toppings for extra, and got free gimmari as part of the opening promotion. The garaetteok was soft and chewy, complimented by the deliciously creamy and garlicky rosé sauce and crunchy sausages. The miltteok was good, nothing too special but good nonetheless, and the sauce had a good kick. The gimmari was freshly fried, piping hot and delicious dipped into the tteokbokki sauce. The portions were decently sized for the price, and 2 dishes were more than enough for 3 people with leftovers. We personally liked the rosé a little more, but both were delicious and I'd definitely come back!
