So much hominy it towers to the top. These are probably the 3 largest pieces of tripe too...

*Hidden gem In uptown Whittier *I was in the mood for some chilaquiles and this place had exactly what I was hoping for.The plate has a nice presentation, and great flavor. Go for the green! We were seated fairly quickly and the service was on point too. It's a family environment. You can enjoy a nice conversation while you eat.Visit this place if you're craving a Mexican style breakfast as I'm sure all the other options are just as delicious.

Greenleaf Cafe is now a staple in our household. Whenever I need some Mexican home cooking, this is the place I go to. On my most recent visit, I ordered the fajitas and the portion was huge! I recommend that you split this dish if you don't want leftovers. My boyfriend ordered a chicken burrito he said it was good. The restaurant definitely feels like home and it's huge! I really want to come in on a weekend to see if the other dining room gets full. I am dying to try the breakfast one of these days as the menu looks so tasty. Both our servers were lovely and attentive. So far, my experience has been great!

I grabbed food here recently for brunch and was surprised how busy it was on a weekday around 11 AM.Situated in Uptown Whittier just next to Coffee Bean & Tea Leaf, this unassuming Mexican restaurant is an oldie but goodie with the locals and I'm glad I tried it.Service (3/5): The wait was a little long that day, but it seemed like there were a lot of phone orders ahead of me. Waitress was nice but messed up my order by giving me the wrong sized menudo so I had to drive back to get the correct one when I realized the mistake. It looked like the owner/manager was on first-name basis with long-time customers, which is nice to see.Food (3.5/5): Overall, it was pretty standard Mexican food. Would consider revisiting if I'm in the area. Breakdown below.* Abel's Chile Relleno Omelette (3/5): The sauce with the omelette was such comfort food. I like how the chile complimented the egg, which had an unexpected roasted flavor. The beans were good, but the rice was a little dry and hard.* Chorizo Breakfast Burrito (3/5): Flavor was good, but I personally didn't love it. It lacked texture and the flavors were all muddled together.* Menudo (4/5): This was our favorite. The flavor of the menudo was pretty rich, with generous portions of hominy and tripe. Our toddler slurped it all up too! We would definitely order this again.Ambiance (3/5): It's outdated and simple, but it works. From what I gather, this cafe has been here awhile, and rightly so with the locals who seem to love it.I think we'd eat from here again if day and time allows it.

It's so hard for me to find a Chile relleno dish that hits the spot and the chile relleno omelette was perfect! I have been coming to the green leaf cafe for some time now and finally got the chance to try it. It was so yummy! The service here is always great and everyone is very kind. I only wish the sauce was a bit spicer but that's just my preference!

This place probably has one of my favorite breakfasts in Whittier. The parking is easy and the service is usually great. They have what I consider one of the best chorizo burritos in Whittier that's super easy to order for pickup too. Depending on when you visit, it can get a little crowded and you might have to wait. But it's usually well worth the wait. I really like consistency in terms of service and food, and I love that you know exactly what you're getting when you come here. We will definitely return!

Second time ive been here, but the first time i didnt want to wait since it was really packed, so we left.So came here this Sunday afternoon and we got in right away. Servers are really attentive which was good.Had the family in tow, so we ordered some chilaquilies and eggs, a small menudo, a club sandwich with fries, and the kids had french toast and eggs.First view, it looked like a lot of families and older couples. A lot of menudo's were going around, so i was eager to try it.All the food was well portioned out, but honestly lacked flavor. Even the menudo. Sorry to say it was just ok. The sauce on the chilaquiles was bland. The french toast were good, but those took a while to come out.Otherwise, overall ok. Not sure i would go back. Again, service really good though.

The food is great. The service is going down the drain. The ambience is were supposed to be. Most of the waitresses except Michelle have lost interest in taking care of their customers. Not only me but when I look around, everybody's waving their hand or getting up to get things themselves, I've been here for quite often and the same to waitresses always get my order wrong. But today, one of them said why didn't you tell me but she never came around for refills came around to ask me if things were OK and burnt the crap out of my bread and got mad because I asked her not to charge me bread it is what it is.

Packed & busy! Food smells delicious & the whole place is festive and feels so cozy. You have families lined up coming in with their own pots for the menudo! Even for holidays it's amazingly busy!

First of all, this isn't my first review here. I've been coming since the early 90's and it has only gotten better. The food has always been delicious and fresh. Service is great, wait staff is the friendliest. The ambiance is what you'd expect for a cafe, just loud enough that if you have kids they will blend right in.Go if you haven't been there and if you have try something different.
