Fun food! You come, take what ever skewer you want and put them on the tray, pay (small fee for card), and wait. The seasoning of their skewer is delicious. Get the vinegar and dipping sauce yourself by the cashier. They also have foods other than the skewers. If you wish to sit outside, grab a table and chairs and set them up yourself.Nice people there that give you good service.

DOLLAR HITS - West Covina, Filipino Street FoodAll in all, if you're in the mood for some traditional Filipino Street Food, Dollar Hits occupies a place in this class, bar none. If you're familiar with it, this is just about your go-to place.Food items I got on my visit, Dec. 1, 2024. See the picture labeled "My Plate" attached to this review. All items are dipped in a spicy, orange-colored vinegar contained in the dipping cup north of the styrofoam plate (cropped picture).Top left: OKOY (mixed vegetable & shrimp fritter) - a classic. It's the Filipino near-equivalent of the Japanese okonomiyaki. Crispy, battered goodness. 8 out of 10.Top right: TOKNENENG (battered boiled egg) - when you "corndog" a hard-boiled egg. Yum, just yum. 7 out of 10.Now, the "stick" row from left-to-rightBETAMAX (cubed pork blood): It's steamed, coagulated pork blood on a stick. When I eat pig's blood, I prefer it in the popular (at least to me it is) dinaguan where it's been seasoned and vinegared. Betamax doesn't taste like it's been carefully seasoned. It's almost like a raw, rectangular cuboid of pure pork blood with maybe a little salt. It's dense to the bite, yet can disintegrate when it gets dry. The name was given because its shape resembles the early 80s video tape rival of the VHS cassette. 3 out of 10. UghPUSO NG MANOK (chicken hearts): They tasted like a mild version of an Italian sausage from the grocery store. Not bad and not gamey (thank God). Would I get it again? Only if I wanted to mix it up. I wonder if it would taste better if they drenched it in that sweet-savory BBQ featured as overkill in the next three sticks to the right. 6 out of 10.CHICKEN ISAW (chicken intenstine): OK. In the first split-second of the first bite you get THE FUNK of the putrid whiff of the inside of an intestine, but thankfully it goes away soon after. It's totally over-coated with sweet-savory BBQ sauce which makes it at least halfway decent. Chicken isaw is a big thing in Fil street food. As for my palette, I wouldn't mind skipping it, but maybe I'd have it once in a blue moon just so I wouldn't forget what it tasted like. 5.5 out of 10.ISAW NG BABOY (pork intestine): Noticeably less funk than the chicken above. The taste experience was literally like bacon with that sweet-savory BBQ sauce, and so I prefer it over the chicken isaw. 7 out of 10.TENGA NG BABOY (BBQ pig ear): Drenched in that sweet-savory BBQ sauce to mask the unmistakable profile of thin cartilage, it wasn't too bad. There is a sense of the porky flavor which instantly comes through. Would I get it again? Well, maybe for the thrill of it. 7 out of 10 (generous rating).Grand total: About $11.50 as of Dec. 1, 2024.CHICHARON BULAKLAK. See the image labeled "Chicharon bulaklak" below. I ordered this item and took it "to-go."Although it's called "chicharon," this is not pork skin. "Bulaklak" means flower in Tagalog, referring to the pretty floral shape (well not in this picture) of its appearance caused by being deep fried and ruffled to a crisp. It is made with ruffled pork fat--also called mesentery which is the tissue that functions as the support scaffolding of the intestines wrapping around the stomach. Again, this is not deep-fried pork skin, but it does taste fatty from having been deep-fried to a crisp. The convention is to dip this in spicy vinegar to cut through all that unctuousness, while in certain bites you get to a soft, tender chew that contrasts with the crispy bits. It's all decadence and for health reasons, you probably shouldn't have too much of this, but if you taste it and like it, there's really nothing else like it. 7, maybe 8, out of 10 for me.

They were everywhere on my social media feed for their $1 skewers grilled on a charcoal grill but I didn't want to make the drive out to LA so I was so happy to see they came to West Covina after wanting to go for years. The tita/tito that are always there make it feel like a Filipino party. They are so welcoming and kind and the music really takes you there haha You walk towards the skewers in the back and choose a tray based on how many skewers you're going to have. They have a huge selection of skewers and I try something new every time I come. My favorites are the chicken, longanisa, quail egg and fish balls. All the skewers are around $1.25 each and they also have other entree items. If you see the grilled pork belly GET IT. It's $3.99 but it is just so sticky and tender. I love that even when you buy their pancit or egg rolls, they heat it up for you again if you're eating there. They also have dessert items like turon (like a banana egg roll covered with sugar), candied sweet potatoes and candied rice cake balls. They also have cassava rice cakes and traditional Filipino desserts by the register. They also have some snacky items like dilis (fried anchovies) and chicharon (fried pork skin) that go so well with their dipping sauce (sau sau?). You get a couple cups for sauce so you can get the more vinegar based sauce or the sweet sauce which is similar to sweet chili. They have a good amount of seating inside and I have never been here when there was no one inside. It's a great place to bring friends and family for a delicious grilled meal. They are also open until 10:30 pm which saves us the other night when we were trying to find something to eat after coming home late. Love you Dollar Hits! See you again this week probably haha

Brilliant concept. Pick out your own selection of skewers from their bar and they'll grill these skewers for you. Then if you want, can choose some of their classic rice bowls. And in a few minutes you have a set of skewers fresh off the grill that pair perfectly with their rice. These rice bowls are straightforward but are tasty and don't steal the attention from the skewers which are the stars of the show. Their beef bbq and chicken bbq skewers, although basic/common skewers, were some of the best skewers I've had in LA. Loved their selection of unique skewers like fried quail egg and chicken skin. The cantaloupe drink was a real treat. Whole families, romantics on their dates, and parties of friends all seen hanging out in this inviting spot, so you know it's good. Fast service. Finding gems like this restaurant is why I became a foodie!

Some of the best filipino barbecue I've had outside of the Philippines! They have such a large variety of bbq: pork, chicken, squid, pig ears, pig intestine, fish cakes, and more. And everything was delicious! You choose the skewers you want and how many and they grill it for you within a few minutes. Apart from their bbq, they also serve other filipino staples like lumpia and pancit. You can order rice to eat with your food and drinks like melon juice and gulaman. They also have quite a selection of pre-made goods like sans rival cake, which is a favorite of mine. All the staff were so nice! The place definitely has a casual, warm, welcoming vibe. Definitely coming back here the next chance I get!

Authentic, delicious Filipino bbq! You're able to choose from so many options and they grill it for you. Service was awesome, the owner came out to speak to us and she was so warm and welcoming. This place has been featured on Netflix's street food show and has a very homey environment. Definitely come check it out!

Always love to support a small business and you really get that feel when you walk in. Affordable and yummy, i can see why people come here for a lil snack. I tried the pork intestine, beef intestine, fried quail egg, and chicken skin. My mistake was coming in after dinner so it was a bit too filling because the skewers are a little fatty. But the flavor was really good. Will definitely come back on an empty stomach next time!

Of course the original location is the best for experience. Pros and cons to each location. Pros to this location is less crowded and dipping sauces are self serve, Biggest con is not having to BBQ your own meats. I love mine practically burned to a crisp. Even if I request extra crispy, it's still not crispy enough. This location will do, if I don't want to search for parking in LA.
