My friends and I ended up at Crab Bay on a Saturday night after an intense badminton session in San Gabriel (because nothing works up an appetite like smashing birdies). Normally, we'd eat around the area, but I had to rush back home to Hacienda Heights to take care of my dog, so my friends agreed to try a spot closer to me. A quick Yelp search led us to Crab Bay, which I realized is where MJ Cafe used to be. RIP MJ Cafe, but hello chaos!First things first--this place is not pescatarian or vegetarian friendly, so shoutout to my friends for trying to find something for me that wasn't seafood swimming in butter. I ended up with some grilled eggplant and fried rice (meat on the side, of course). The food was a solid 3/5. Not bad, but nothing to write home about. But the real highlight? The ambiance. Picture this: I walked in expecting a seafood restaurant and instead stumbled into what felt like a karaoke lounge... but with a twist. Drunken karaoke, to be specific. I'm talking about people yelling into microphones with all the passion of a Celine Dion concert. And let's not forget the no-smoking signs, which clearly served as mere decoration because people were puffing away like it was an open-air smoking lounge.Oh, and did I mention we unknowingly brought along three high school students? Yeah... turns out this is not the place for minors. Lesson learned.Crab Bay: come for the food (or maybe don't), but definitely stay for the wild ride of drunken karaoke and disregard for no-smoking signs!

I really liked:Crawfish Lobster Garlic Fries Ube Việt Coffee Garlic Noodles I liked: Shrimp Clams Honestly solid #goodeats that's ever so slightly better compared to the other seafood boils in the area. The Vietnamese drinks on the menu are nice to haves. The crawfish were especially good but they were fresh and also incurred an upcharge of $2. That's kinda lame. The service at Crab Bay was adequate but had some issues. I had to get up to find servers occasionally, and they ran out of mussels by lunchtime on a Saturday, which was disappointing. The restaurant's decor is a standout, evoking the feel of being inside a ship. The nautical theme is well-executed, adding a unique and enjoyable atmosphere to the dining experience.

Upon entering, the inside of this restaurant reeked of cigarette smoke. We came at midnight because they close at 2am, but we were told that the kitchen was closed. Poor experience.

2.5 starsPlenty of parking, located inside a plaza.I was surprised by the other reviews. Came here on a Friday night and it was empty. There was only one person drinking. That was probably a sign. We seated ourselves. The place was dark, like a night time drinking environment. They waitress seems to need more training. She didn't know what we ordering, we had to point at each item we wanted on the menu. Probably a language barrier as well. Ordered a pitcher of beer, the seafood combo platter, beef skewers, scallops and intestines.I was very upset that the blonde girl in charge of front registered was vaping inside the restaurant.I am pregnant. That was a big no in my books to be smoking inside a food establishment. The beef skewer was sweet and chewy. It was okay. The intestines was good. The scallops were good. For the combo seafood platter, 1 lb shrimp, sub the 1b mussels for crawfish, 1lb clams, potatoes, sausage and corn. The seasoning for this is like a tomato garlic gravy which was not bad. Definitely something different and yummy. The shrimp was big, some clams were were dead ( not open), potatoes were the big yellow one. When we got to the crawfish my friend noticed it tasted weird. I cautiously tried it and spit it out. It tasty soapy. We flagged down our waitress and informed her that the crawfish has gone bad. She went to the back and came back and took our tray of food without telling us what they were going to do with it. After 10 minutes, we informed them if they were going to make a new batch, let's not do the crawfish again and sub it to more shrimp. After couple of minutes our food was ready and the manager apologized for the inconvenience. We proceed to eating but the service was so bad. I will not be coming back. Can't take a risk eating spoiled seafood here while pregnant.

A very authentically Chinese place. Their karaoke rooms are basically broom closets & 2 of their mics didn't work properly. It was just so funny & ratchet that I had such a good time laughing at everything I couldn't contain myself! We honestly loved how this place lived up to all our expectations of how it was inside because of how this place used to be the old MJ Cafe. It just is... not very high end but very fun. Their signs are also super funny. 10/10 recommend this for a crazy night.

Renovated and ready to dominate! I came here with a group of friends to try this place out. Apparently the menu changed and the business name was different before. Regardless, this place delivers! From the moment you walk in you almost get asian coffee shop vibes xD. It's dimly lit, there's a TV at the counter, and plenty of booths to sit at. To the left you'll notice there are karaoke rooms you can reserve as well. Not going to lie, we pigged out! We got a Sapporo tower for our table, as well as a bunch of food: beef skewers, fried fish, ramen, miscellaneous fried items (including cartilage), pork, clams, pancake, seafood boil, peanuts, and stinky tofu.My eyes are apparently bigger than my stomach so I didn't get to try everything (or was able to reach for it across the table). But, here is what I tried:- Clams: Delivered on a tray resting in a bunch of juices, these clams were pretty good.- Seafood Boil: Delicious. Everything tasted good in it. I took the sauces and ate it with some white rice, it was a match made in heaven.- Stinky Tofu: Lightly fried and definitely stinky, these things are addicting. For being my first time ever trying stinky tofu, it was a pleasant experience. I ate almost the whole tray.- Miscellaneous Fried Items: I have no idea what I was eating but it all tasted good. I'm sure there was cartilage somewhere and some other parts x).Service was good. The girl who was catering to our table was very patient and helpful. The parking lot is huge so there's no issue there. Park anywhere for free.I would definitely come back again!

If you love chinese style spicy food and skewers, then you will love Crab Bay. They have variety of meat skewers and seafood boil, fried rice, noodles. Here's are some of items we ordered,Seafood boil: it's like any other seafood boil, comes with sausage, shrimps, mussel, corn. But with a twist of flavor. Seafood tasted very fresh and I love the spice they use in the seafood. If you have left overs, make sure to take the sauce with you and you can eat it with rice or make fried rice with it. Skewers: lamb, beef, pork intestine. I love them al! the beef is super spicy and sprinkled with lots of chili flakes. Lamb and intestines are my favorite.Non-meat: the potato chips are soooo goood here, I belive it is homemade, sprinkled with chili powder and sugar. Stinky Tofu are well fried and a good stink. I can probably eat this all day. the roasted eggplant has to be my top dish. it's super well flavored. Drinks: woot! they serve the beer in beer tower or you can get it with mixed soju. we ordered 1 of each. Alcohol selection is good. the have a lot of brand of beer and flavored soju. The service was excellent and it was a large group of us. There are plenty of parking in the plaza. This place is also good for parties, they have several karoke rooms! I definitely would love to plan my next birthday here!

Our family eyed this spot the night before at a car meet and decided to try it for a family reunion dinner. We arrived as soon as they opened and we were seated right away. Be advised that they don't open till 6:00pm and they do close late, 2:00am. The decor is modern and spacious with high ceilings. I noticed some rooms toward one side and found out that it was a karaoke room. That was cool! It was nice and clean and the seats were comfortable.I have to say, I did review the menu before we got there, but once we arrived, the host mentioned that they changed their menu. I was a little disappointed but I took a chance. So I did see quite a few items that were usual Chinese dishes, but toward the end of the menu I saw the "Seafood Boil" we were there for. So that was comforting. We had a party of 6 and the host mentioned that the "Seafood Combo" fed 3, so we got two orders. We also added two orders of fried squid aka calamari and the host gave us an order of fries "on the house". The waitress gave us two pitchers of fresh water with lemon and some roasted red peanuts while we waited for our order. We were served with the fried squid and fries first. The seasoning on the fries was perfect. I wish I knew what seasoning was used. The fried squid was cooked and seasoned perfectly. It had just the right amount of breading and the seasoning has a little kick. The flavors were so scrumptious, no dipping sauce needed. The main dish came right on time. The host mentioned that the sauce was a garlic butter flavor and we opted to get it mild. If you love the sauce that comes with the seafood boil, make sure you ask for rice cause their sauce so good, we didn't want it to go to waste. The waitress provided some gloves for us, which was my first time eating with gloves. We dived in right away and the flavors didn't disappoint. The seafood combo came with 1lb of shrimp + 1lb clams + 1lb mussels with potatoes, corn and sausage. This was the only combo choice. The seafood was cooked perfectly, not mushy or rubbery. The sauce was sooooo good! We had to order an extra bowl of rice just to soak up all that sauce. This was definitely the first time I've had a seafood boil from a Chinese owned establishment. It's usually Thai or Vietnamese, but this spot was worth it! You definitely have to try this spot.
