Bluefin Handroll Bar: A Hidden Osaka-Inspired Sushi Haven in West CovinaSolid 4 1/2 StarsFood 4 1/ 2 StarsService 4 1/2 StarsAmbiance 4 1/2 starsPrice 4 StarsTucked away like a secret culinary scroll in the heart of West Covina, Bluefin Handroll Bar is a treasure trove of sushi delights, bringing the essence of Osaka straight to our eager palates. While they may be famous for their handrolls, this gem offers an array of sushi delicacies that demand exploration. That sashimi bowl? Oh, it's calling my name, but patience is a virtue--I shall return for that feast soon enough. On this visit, I embarked on a handroll journey, savoring their spicy tuna, yellowtail, ahi tuna, and salmon rolls--each a love letter to the art of sushi. The seaweed was crisp yet supple, the rice a perfect harmony of delicate sweetness and vinegary balance, and the fish? Absolute oceanic poetry. Here's how each handroll delivered a masterclass in sushi craftsmanship:Spicy Tuna Handroll 5 Stars*****A fiery yet balanced symphony of flavor, where the kick of the spice doesn't overpower but instead complements the buttery tuna. The nori crackles upon the first bite, giving way to the silkiness of the fish and the perfectly seasoned rice--a texture lover's dream. This roll whispers, "I dare you to eat just one," and I, of course, failed spectacularly.Yellowtail (Hamachi) Handroll 5 Stars*****A delicate, almost ethereal bite--firm yet tender, rich yet clean, like the culinary equivalent of a haiku.Paired with a hint of citrus or scallion (because they know what they're doing), it elevates the oceanic freshness to celestial levels. The rice cradles the fish like a soft cloud, making every bite feel like a gentle ocean breeze on a summer night.Ahi Tuna Handroll: 5 Stars*****The classic, the legend, the reason sushi became an art form. Ahi tuna, in its deep ruby glory, melts on the tongue like a whispered promise of flavor.Balanced with that signature Bluefin precision--seaweed at peak crispness, rice seasoned to perfection--it's a textbook example of why simplicity, when done right, is pure brilliance.A reminder that sometimes, the best things in life are the ones that let the ingredients shine.Salmon Handroll: 5 Stars*****The handroll equivalent of a warm embrace--silky, buttery salmon that practically sighs as it melts in your mouth. The rich, fatty goodness meets the gentle acidity of the rice, creating a bite that is both indulgent and refreshing.Lobster Roll: 5 Stars*****Presentation: A masterpiece of Japanese precision and seafood indulgence, the lobster roll arrived like a carefully wrapped gift--seaweed crisp, rice pillowy, and lobster peeking through like it knew it was about to steal the show.Flavor Explosion: That lobster wasn't just cooked; it was coaxed into perfection. Buttery, succulent, and kissed with just the right amount of seasoning, it tasted like it leaped straight from the ocean into my hand roll with zero hesitation.Texture Harmony: The contrast was impeccable--silky lobster, perfectly vinegared sushi rice, and seaweed with a crisp snap that made me question if I had just cracked into a fresh shell.Balance of Ingredients: A delicate yet rich balance of umami, sweet, and briny goodness. The chef didn't just make a roll; they composed a symphony of flavors that danced on my palate.Final Verdict: If there's a lobster roll hierarchy, this one reigns supreme. It didn't just blow my cap back--it sent it sailing into another dimension. If sushi had royalty, this would wear the crown. With each bite, it became clear--Bluefin isn't just serving handrolls; they're crafting edible experiences. I shall return, for that sashimi bowl will be mine. But until then, I'll be dreaming of those handrolls and plotting my next visit.West Covina, consider yourself lucky--this Osaka-inspired treasure is nothing short of spectacular.Oh, yeah...

A cute and affordable omakase stall in Haven City Market. In my opinion, their quality rivals KazuNori hand rolls and their service is so good! Friendly and fast with pumping out your orders. Their portion size is decent as well and you leave their restaurant feeling good and satisfied. Expect to pay $6 per roll but I was full with just 3 rolls. I love their salmon Handroll! So fresh and no fishy taste whatsoever! Highly recommend!

This handroll bar opened up at Haven City Market and I am so happy it did!Food: 11/10! I got a 3 piece handroll and my boyfriend got the 6 piece handroll and all of the handrolls were absolutely incredible and tasted SO fresh! It is such a steal for what it is!!Service: 11/10! The waiter who helped me and my boyfriend out was very professional and so attentive to us. We were the only ones dining in at the moment, but there were customers coming in and out asking him questions and he was still so helpful to them. I give this rating an 11/10 because the sushi chef at the establishment is fantastic! The chef is the definition of "compliments to the chef." Chef was super kind to my boyfriend and I and was putting on a show for us while making our handrolls. Chef also included a cooked fish for us for free of charge and it was so delicious! Since my boyfriend ordered the 6 piece, initially, I was just going to take a bite of the last 3 handrolls he got that I didn't, but Chef noticed and asked if we wanted the last 3 handrolls cut in half so I can have/try some of it as well. Honestly, he did not have to do that but it was such a nice gesture that we very much appreciated. Chef also checked in on us to make sure we were enjoying each handroll and we sure did! We are definitely coming back not only for the food, but also for the Chef!Ambiance: 10/10. Seating is bar seating and feels very intimate as you see the Chef making the rolls in front of you!Overall, I am taking all of my friends and family here because not only the food is amazing, but also the staff/service and the experience! Can't wait to come back!

As I approached the counter, we were warmly greeted by the host. The host was kind enough to walk me through the menu and also explain the differences between the two omakase options.I ended up ordering the premium chirashi and 2 blue crab hand rolls. The hand rolls were delicious. The only critique is the presentation of the rolls. Would have been more appealing if rolled into a cone to show off the quality of crab used.On the other hand, the premium chirashi was beautifully presented. I don't recall the names of each fish, but everything was exquisite and most importantly fresh. Beneath the fish was a tasty bed of sushi rice and a side of gullianed radish. And did I mention, although small, it also had a small piece of uni!Excellent food and excellent dining vibe( it was our first time at this haven city location)

Fresh, good $23 salmon (sake) don. Love it! And in a food court? Unheard of. This revamped shopping center is fantastic--they finally got it right. Takeout, good quality sushi now in West Covina, super win!I ordered online for this salmon don sans ginger and wasabi, and they got my order right (you'd be surprised how many nice sushi restaurants disregard my request). There were a few unexpected accompaniments in the salmon don, including [real] crab, spicy tuna, miso beef, and 2 types of seaweed salad. Pleasant surprises to vary flavors in each bite of your bowl. I went back a couple days later and it was solid once again. I'd definitely order again and again.Hubby ordered a bunch of sushi and some hand rolls, all the fish was fresh but the chefs know what's the freshest so don't be afraid to ask. Presentation was beautiful. All the sushi was dressed and topped, and flavors were spot on. The wagyu sushi in particular was great, as it was tender and super smoky. Some of the other sushi was dressed a tad too much, which made the rice fall apart, but not the wagyu. Hand rolls had generous amounts of filling.Easily the best sushi in West Covina. Don't be deterred by the fact that it happens to be in a[n albeit nice] food court.

The day after Grand Opening Day at Haven City Market West Covina, I came back to try out new food vendors. I was very intentional in which ones I wanted to eat at. Bluefin Handroll Bar was one of them. I decided to dine-in rather than do take-out.I had to wait for about 5 mins before the staff gave the thumbs up for me to sit. The bar is not very big... probably fits about 8 people max. They offer handrolls in a pre-selected set or you may create your own set of handrolls at a la carte prices. Yes, their sets may be a few dollars cheaper, but their choice of handrolls may not be the best. So it all depends on what you like. I created my own set with 2 salmon, 1 tuna, and 1 blue crab. Salmon was my favorite hands down! Tuna was good. Blue crab was my least favorite because it didn't have the crab taste I was looking for.Overall quality was good. Staff was okay. Service was a little slow. I wanted all my handrolls to be served at the same time so I can take photos. Of course, they didn't know and I didn't communicate with them sooner, hence, the delay as they were waiting for me to finish the handroll I had. Anyway, I informed them of what I wanted and the handrolls started to show up. I will definitely come back to chow down on more salmon handrolls!

Located inside the Haven City Market - West Covina. It is a big food hall and I didn't know where to go. Was walking around and saw this place. It wasn't too big but a booth and there is a sushi bar that is connected to it. I was checking out the menu and a gentleman came and helped me out to see if I had any questions. I explored their menu and saw that they had a chirashi bowl here. Was super curious what was in it since I checked online and saw there was a good amount of fish to the bowl but had to make sure they didn't have some things that I was allergic to in it. The chirashi has an assortment of fish. I forgot all of what was in there but they had fatty tuna in the bowl and I was sold! And everything looked fresh! They don't allow substitutions but I let them know to not have sea urchin in there because I am allergic. They took the proper protocols to handling my food with care. Loved that they were nice and informative. You can choose to eat there which is like a sushi bar situation or you can take it to go or even eat it in the food court. I chose mine to go and ate in the food court. They give you a buzzer and buzz you when your order is ready. I didn't know that it would have miso soup with the premium chirashi bowl. It was a nice surprise! The miso soup tasted pretty standard. Hot, has some tofu and seaweed, not too salty, and very comforting. And man the portion of the chirashi bowl was really good! I didn't finish my rice but each bite of every piece of fish in there was super fresh. From what I can see there was salmon, eel, tamagotchi, tuna, fatty tuna, seaweed salad, possibly blue crab, and not sure what else. The fatty tuna was nice and buttery. Everything was delicious and not fishy. I really dig it! Can't wait to go back and possibly try their nigiri or omakase that they have.

Great place to go if you want delicious hand rolls for a great price. The quality of the fish was pretty good. Bluefin Handroll Bar is located inside Haven Marketplace so if you're not craving sushi, you can get whatever you desire since Haven is like an indoor food court. We ordered takeout and sat at a table across from the restaurant but the restaurant had sushi bar seating. The service was excellent. It's a dining food court/ hall so it's packed with people and exciting. I highly recommend this spot.
