Went here for a special celebration to try out the Malaysian style food.I think overall, the food here is not bad, but it is not as flavorful as what I expected Malaysian cuisine to be. It seemed like the flavors were dialed down here. The laksa wasn't as creamy or thick - I felt that the individually packaged laksa noodles you can get from Malaysia tasted better. I was a bit disappointed with this one. The way you're supposed to eat the skewers was interesting, but my Malaysian friend noted that the rice cubes and vegetables provided with the dish is actually very little compared to what they normally use in Malaysia. We ordered a lot of different dishes but nothing really stood out to me as a unique entree. The sauce for the roti canai needed some extra flavor, but the crab rangoons were pretty good though. Service is abundant and they all are very nice. They were quick to take away empty dishes and did not need prompting on water refills (I drink a ton of water at meals). As for the restaurant itself, it is spacious on the inside and full of customers when we went. We had a reservation so it was a short wait for us, if any.

I was randomly craving for beef rendang, to an extent that I couldn't stop thinking about it for days, so after a long hesitation, I ordered the delivery from this restaurant which seems to have the best Malaysian food in OC area. The beef rendang in my memory is chunky but soft, braised to perfection and packed with the flavors of spices and a fresh hint of coconut. To be honest, it was much better than I expected. The taste was fantastic, and it was not as greasy as it looked at all. I think the coconut aroma is even stronger than any beef rendang I've had in America, which I really enjoyed. However, personally, I would prefer the chunks to be larger so the meat would have more texture to it, and some pieces are a lil dry. But to me it's a 8.8/10 already. The flavor was heavenly, I didn't even dump my leftovers as I always do because it was so delicious. So it was definitely recommended--but one thing to clarify is I never tried the "authentic" Malaysian food so I don't know if that's the authentic version or not. And I saw some ppl saying it's too sweet, tho I didn't find it overly sweet. All I'd say is flavor wise, it's unbeatable.

This place has become our new favorite go to place! We were driving thru the area and found this great a Malaysian food place; there is almost none in Southern California! We went inside to check it out. They gave us a huge amount of recommendations and walked us thru each food and what was it. You can tell they take great pride in their food! The prices are very reasonable especially for the big portions. The food was so good, and given the different culture, we even learned a bit. The restaurant overall is quaint and simple, one I'd recommend to anyone! Check it out!

I've been a fan of Belacan Grill for years, and this review is long overdue. It's a shame that Malaysian food isn't as popular as other Asian cuisines like Thai or Chinese, especially considering its significant influence on both. I've never had a dish here that I didn't enjoy. The only downside is that it's all the way in Tustin, but it's always worth the drive.Today, I stopped by for lunch and ordered the Stir-Fried Kangkung (watercress) with shrimp paste and it was phenomenal, as always. If you're planning to visit, be sure to make a reservation, as this place gets super packed! There's plenty of parking available, and you can also find street parking nearby.

One of the Best Malaysian Restaurants in California! This restaurant is a hidden gem for authentic Malaysian cuisine. The ambience is warm and welcoming, and the service is top-notch. The chef and his wife, both Malaysians, bring their love for food and culture to life here, with their kids also lending a hand in creating a family-friendly, inviting atmosphere. They are incredibly friendly and make you feel right at home.Start your meal with the roti canai and chicken satay - both are must-tries. If you're vegetarian or just love tofu, I highly recommend the satay tofu, which is packed with flavor. And if you've never had their chicken wings, you're in for a treat! For the main course, you can't go wrong with their char kway teow, Mamak mee goreng, Hainanese chicken rice, nasi goreng, nasi lemak, mee curry, or the flavorful claypot seafood curry. These are all dishes I find myself ordering again and again.Don't skip the desserts - the ice kacang is the perfect sweet ending to your meal.As someone who grew up with Malaysian food, I can confidently say this restaurant offers a true taste of home. Highly recommended!

I wish I could give a place six stars sometimes! The food is 10/10. Everything we tried was so good. The mee goreng was incredibly flavorful, the fish fillet was so tender and was perfect with the rich curry sauce, the nasi lemak is such a picture of southeast asian cuisine (but if you're not a fan of shrimp paste beware because it's strong). And I forgot the name of the beef dish but it was so soft and had a peppery umami to it plus the sweetness of the onions made it a perfect balance. The ambiance is so nice and cozy, and it makes sense given the owners. This is a family owned business, and the family cooks and serves and it just made sense why the place was so homey. Ken and Kim, thanks for making our night incredibly fun and memorable. My girls and I will definitely be back We also catered with them for a dinner and the food was just incredible. Our classmates were completely unfamiliar with Malaysian food but I saw them coming back for seconds and thirds! They also accommodated our need to have the food earlier which was just so nice AND they added in a hainan chicken that we did not order??? So kind and generous. Truly a special place in OC, you don't find a lot of restaurants like this :')))

TLDR; great tasting Malaysian food, nice staff. Not much else needs to be saidI honestly don't know where to start. This place just has really good food... you can pretty much just check out my photos and try any one of them and it'll be great. Lots of taste and spices, but note that it's pretty popular so you might need to wait (I think you can also reserve tables online).

If you are thinking about going to Belacan, do yourself a favor and make a reservation first. We came before noon on a Sunday and found there was already a 20-25 minute wait for an indoor table. Outdoor seating was immediately available, so we chose that option. They were nice enough to bring out a heat lamp, which made the temperature perfect!I am a spice wimp and was a little worried that the food here might too spicy for me. The menu said the Curry Laksa was medium spicy and could not be made not spicy. Our waiter also informed us that it was spicy and made sure we were ok to order it. I also ordered the char kway teow medium spicy. Imagine my surprise when neither dish was spicy at all, which was a little disappointing. The food was good, but would have been better with a touch of heat.Service was very friendly! I've seen other reviews complaining about the service, so maybe we just got lucky. For my next trip, I'm definitely making a reservation and asking for my food to have some heat!Plenty of parking in the lot.

Another great meal on this occasion, which yielded a takeout order a couple days later. We will make our way through the complete menu through the year. Service from Kim, including making our delicious cocktails, was excellent. When my wife returned a couple days later for the takeout and a lunch meal of her own, she asked for Kim, who happily accommodated. I love the flavors and variety of the Southeast Asian foods Belacan provides.
