Love this place! They are very seasonal and sometimes dont have what I usually order but I dont really care haha The most normal looking tamago nigiri ahhh... but its such a generous portion its fine, a little rough but still, for $5 for 2 nigiris. Great deal! The Sake (Salmon Nigiri) is actually really great. The combination they put on mine this time slaps so hard. However, I had their ming salmon before and it was wayyy better. I hope I can come back to have it again.Amaebi is really good, but I feel like since it is on the smaller side, the wasabi felt a little overwhelming. Other than that, the texture both Frozen and Live is really good. Of course Live is better.Service was a little slow since they always only have 1 waiter. However, the chefs are so nice and accommodating, they are really friendly!Small place with limited seats. But they are in a plaza with many other great restaurants, so its worth to check if they are busy or not and if they are, you can hop for restaurant searches. Overall, great price, great food, great people.

Impeccable sushi! Having had sushi and dined at world renown and Michelin star restaurants in London, Paris and New York, I was immensely pleased to find that the level of sushi here was outstanding. This is an epicurean's delight, highly recommend!

This place has been added to our sushi rotation! We love Sherry the server, the food is good with some extra fun Okinawan dishes, and the ambiance is small but not cramped, just cozy. There's always a place for us and we've been treated like guests multiple times!

This is one of several places I went to when in Costa Mesa recently for a conference. It was overall ok, but quite mixed and uneven in both food and service. There were a few of us and we sat at the counter. I had salmon (sake) nigiri which was good but not great, and a dragon roll sushi, which was very good (4 stars). The sunomono salad looked good, but was flavourless, exceedingly bland, and the cucumber was coarse (2 stars). One of my companions got salmon cheek, which she said was mediocre. Tempura was okBasically, the sushi service and food were good, the other food and service were not. The sushi chef provided good service. The waitress otherwise was rude and unhelpful overall. We all wanted to pay separately but she refused to let us do that even though we all sat at the counter and each ordered separately, as if we had come one separately. The interior inside is characterless, plain, a bit dirty, with harsh lighting and bare walls.

We strolled in late after a show at Segerstrom. The staff was nice enough to take us at the sushi bar.We ordered a wide range of things, and had a great dinner. The fish quality here is pretty nice and the chefs really slice with care. Their tempura batter is a little more thick than I prefer and it was a little greasy, but it was our fault...they had turned off the burners so the oil was probably cooler when they started the fry.We learned that while this restaurant had only been open at this location for about 6 months, it had moved here nearby after bringing around for over a decade. It was a nice meal, and the hot tea was free flowing.

If you are looking for genuine, authentic, exceptionally high quality Japanese food (particularly nigiri sushi and sashimi), this is your place if you are in the Costa Mesa area.If you prefer a more westernized/California-roll style sushi place where the rolls are drowned in sauces, this place will not be for you. Nothing wrong w/ this if it's your jam, but this should help manage expectations.Absolutely loved our dinner here where we had the nigiri sampler as well as a few rolls to share between friends. Sake selection is excellent and delicious. Servers were fantastic and the staff was so attentive even though they were understaffed.Cuts and presentation is absolutely perfect. Very simple hole-in-the-wall restaurant where the seating area is more simple, but you know they spend all of their effort on the quality of the food.Gives off the impression that everything is family-owned/operated, where their kid hangs out playing in the corner, so you know the food is absolutely on fire.Prices are a little bit on the expensive side, but this is the kind of place where I'd say you truly do get what you pay for, and I'll be returning here in the future 100%. There are plenty of restaurants in this strip-mall area, and this is absolutely worth a trip for dinner.

[Food]- Oyster Shooter: Yum! Amazing flavors amongst the oyster, ponzu sauce, tobiko, green onion, and quail egg! Most oyster shooters are usually a hit for me. I like that their oysters are a decent size compared to the other components. - Shishito Peppers: Sometimes when I order this some places don't give you a dipping sauce but I really like that they do here. A nice savory dashi sauce! - Chef's Choice: Fresh and decent depending on the piece. I could've done without the tamago as I feel like that was the one that kind of dragged the overall dish down. I enjoyed the variety of nigiri so I'm content! (: The sweet shrimp nigiri comes with the head fried. My favorite! - Nigiri: Salmon was average but the yellowtail was pretty good. Nice sweetness of the fish along with complimentary toppings[Service]- Fast, friendly, helpful[Ambiance]- From what I read they moved locations but just down the street. - Has indoor and bar seating. [Overall]- Would come back again to try their other dishes!- Food is fresh and delicious

Visited at their new location. Its a bit bigger, prettier, and they got new pretty plates (including sushi wood planks). Food even tasted better probably because of cleaner and newer kitchen and plates. It was about $100 pp and that said it was a really satisfying meal. $100 isnt cheap but their sushi is much better than other places at the similar price range.I was happy they came here. Also even happier that they got over the horrible covid period and their chefs came back with good sushi.

I've been enjoying sushi at Angotei for years, but today was my first visit to their new location. I think the parking is better than their old location for sure! When we walked in there were two parties at tables and no one at the sushi bar, so we opted for the sushi bar as usual. We're used to seeing Hero behind the bar or his cohort, but they were nowhere to be seen.... Uh oh!We sat down and were waited on very promptly. Miso soup was just as good as always. We ordered a soft shell crab cut roll, a Hawaiian roll and masago sushi - all with soy paper. Our sushi chef (Johan) did NOT disappoint!! The food and service were great and we'll be back soon! The only thing I would say they could work on is the atmosphere... I know it's a new location, but it's very stark white. I'd love if they created a little more of what the old location had, but still 5 stars!!
