hidden gem on the up and rising again! udon (8/10)serve in a hot cauldron to keep the broth pipping hot noodles with tempera. broth has a mushroom like flavor chirashi (9/10)super value, comes with salmon, yellowtail, albacore, monkliver, sweet shrimp, scallop, fried shrimp head, ikura, seaweed salad, and sushi rice. For $49.95, super value and i believe the price hasnt changed in years. i would recommend sharing or prepare to take it home for dinner. salmon cutroll (10/10)salmon roll? more like salmon burrito! i like my sushi clean without any fried sauce or sauce. so this is the perfect roll for me. The staff is super friendly and attentive, i love the cozy vibes. will be back for my BIG sushi fix

Since Hisako sold the restaurant, my family has tried it a few times. Every time we would order the uni sushi, hoping it would be like how it was. Hisako's uni sushi was our favorite: the Santa Barbara uni would fill your entire mouth because she made it with a small amount of sushi rice at the bottom, then overfilling the nori with a TON of uni. Hisako spared no expense! We'd watch her use up a few sushigetas of uni for our order. My mom described the experience of eating it as "a feeling of bliss." They were not cheap, but we paid happily, because you couldn't get them made like this anywhere else.For years the old pictures of her uni sushi would feature prominently on the Akasaka Yelp page. Even though the new owners kept the price, even charging more, none has been as generous with the ingredients. I recall one of them even made it with one piece of uni on top of all sushi rice in nori. That was some bait and switch! They had been making money off customers' nostalgia for the old Akasaka. Meanwhile, pictures of Hisako's uni sushi continued to feature prominently on the Yelp page for years, taunting us.I think the current owner is doing better now than those before them. The rolls are made closer to how Hisako used to make. If you didn't know the original Alaska, the current version is not bad, compared to the competition. But the uni sushi still isn't like how it was. I kept hoping I'd get that same sense of bliss when I order uni sushi from this or other restaurants. But, alas, no one makes it like Hisako did.

PLEASE TRY THIS HOLE IN THE WALL NOW!!! came here for lunch weekday and they have the most amazing portions for cheap price in this economy i recommend any of the combinations, but my friend got the chirashi bowl and IT IS HUGEEEE AND SO WORTH! they give edamame and miso soup as appetizer for free as well, and have both reduced and regular soy sauce combinations! it's small inside but adds to the homey and cozy atmosphere. servers are super attentive and nice, and the sushi chefs are just as amazing as well!

We had the most incredible experience at this restaurant celebrating my daughter's 25th birthday. She discovered it on TikTok and was blown away by the generous portions and freshness of the fish. Upon arrival, we were struck by the cozy ambiance of this small restaurant, perfectly balanced by its expansive parking lot. The Japanese team welcomed us with open arms, and the hostess greeted us with a warm smile. We were promptly seated at our reserved table, where we were treated to refreshing water and exceptional service. One of the employees surprised us with a complimentary shrimp tempura to share, courtesy of my daughter's birthday. After exploring the impressive menu, we opted for the spider roll and salmon roll, while my son chose the beef teriyaki and chicken katsu plate. My daughter and husband indulged in the delectable chirashi bowl. The generous portions and unparalleled freshness of the fish left us in awe. The rice was cooked to perfection, and the food's presentation was visually stunning. We reveled in the serene atmosphere, savoring every moment together as a family. To make the evening even more special, we enjoyed a bottle of sake. Our dinner at this enchanting restaurant was truly unforgettable. I wholeheartedly recommend it 100%.

Tucked away in the more industrial part of Hacienda Heights, this sushi spot is a gem you don't want to miss! We visited on a Sunday night, and despite expecting a wait, we were seated immediately. The ambiance is cozy--just like a classic mom-and-pop Japanese sushi restaurant.The food portions here are very generous! It took three of us to finish one chirashi bowl. We also ordered agedashi tofu and takoyaki as side dishes, and you can really tell how much care they put into making everything fresh. While we didn't get the sushi rolls or yellowtail collar this time, the portion sizes looked impressive!A quick heads-up: parking can be a bit tight, so be mindful of cars coming in and out of the lot. Overall, a fantastic experience--definitely looking forward to coming back. Happy sushi time!

Just a heads up--one chirashi bowl is PLENTY for two people. We made the rookie mistake of ordering two, assuming the portions would be like every other sushi spot... Nope. Ended up leaving with leftovers.Everything was super fresh and delicious. Just come hungry

Celebrating special occasion with bunch of friends and it was a great experience. The sashimi and rolls are fresh and tasty!! The portion is also generous compared to other Japanese restaurants.The server is nice and friendly. However I recommend for carpooling because the parking slot is limited.Totally recommend this place for clean and fresh sushi!!

We love this neighborhood joint. Super fresh and high quality fish and giant rolls. Very friendly service that makes us feel at home. Always leave so full and happy :)
