If you're looking for great bang for your buck when it comes to omakase, Akafuji is the place to be. The premium omakase runs $105, while the regular omakase is about $80--but trust me, go for the premium. It comes with lobster tail, and every bite is worth it.One of the standout features? Their truffle ponzu. I put that on everything, and honestly, you should too. It adds an extra layer of umami that takes the meal to the next level. The service? Impeccable. The only downside? It's a long drive from DTLA, but once you're there, you'll forget all about the miles. Great service Incredible flavors & fresh ingredients Reservations available on Yelp Check out my photos--don't they look amazing?10/10, would absolutely come again. Akafuji is great!

Came here for gf's birthday on a Monday night. We got the luxury omakase which was a lot of quality food for a great price. They do this thing where you get to order your favorite dish again at the end and we went with the black cod cuz it was bomb. The servers were very helpful and answered any questions we had. It was a nice and quiet place, looked clean.Would definitely come back.

Came here for a valentines dinner and I thought the overall experience could be better. I had reserved for 7:15pm for 2 on a Saturday on yelp and I realized that there was a little blurb at the end that said I had to call for indoor seating. So I did at a later date and even said I wanted to have the luxury premium menu. At a higher end place, these notes would be promptly made. However, I understand that I was going for something more affordable since it was our first omakese. We came a few minutes early on the day of and it was definitely busy possibly due to the holiday. The only seating that was available at the moment was outdoors and that the wait for indoors would be up to an hour. I understand the crowd but I do think this is something that needed to be better controlled for because I did not want to sit outside in the cold. I also thought that the whole essence of omakese was being able to watch the chefs cater your food. We were handed menus swiftly but waters and utensils came after 20 minutes of seating which I thought was a bit long. I also had to flag down multiple waiters to ask that the fire be moved closer to us after the big group had left. They offered to move us to a different table but there was a bit of attitude when cleaning it up. The overall dinner was great, I truly enjoyed every piece and loved the option to encore a favorite. The food came on very nice slates. The service around this food could be better though. When the server came to deliver the food, they simply dropped it off while when the chef delivered it, they would tell us what each piece was but very quickly. Sometimes I wouldn't even be able to catch it. Because they were also busy that day, our order of the luxury premium got demoted to the premium without us knowing. They might have also misheard me but I really wanted to try the lobster and oyster they were all about. Besides that, I really only got to know that they were short on materials at the end of the meal. So I missed out on the soba, chawanmushi, and chef's dessert they said it included, but we still got charged the full price. The process is a bit messy, I had to keep count of what course I was on and what I did and didn't get yet so perhaps a visual representation of this in the future would be nice, especially since we were seated outside and weren't able to reference the chalk board inside. Overall, I would recommend trying this place because of how affordable it is, but personally I don't see myself coming back unless the menu changes.

Stopped by Akafuji for lunch and went with the chicken katsu curry lunch special and the three-cut roll combo. The food was solid, with the katsu fried to a perfect crisp while still being tender inside. The curry was warm and comforting, though I wished it had a bit more depth in flavor to make it truly stand out. It was still enjoyable and paired well with the rice, but a richer or slightly spicier curry base would have taken it to the next level. The sushi rolls were fresh and nicely portioned, making the combo a great value for lunch. Each roll had a good balance of rice to filling, and everything tasted well-prepared. It's a nice option if you want a mix of something fried and something lighter in one meal.Service was efficient and friendly, with staff making sure everything was brought out in a timely manner. The restaurant itself has a casual and welcoming atmosphere, making it a good spot for a quick but satisfying meal. It wasn't too busy when I visited, so it felt relaxed and comfortable to dine in.The lunch specials are worth checking out, and I'd come back to try more of the menu. Just a little more richness in the curry would have made it a five-star experience for me, but overall, it was a solid meal at a reasonable price.

Had my Galentine's dinner here tonight and our experience was absolutely amazing!Love the seating arrangement and how we were all seated at the barWe all opted for the premium omakase which was 15 courses and 80$ per personIt was more than enough food.. we got miso soup, chawanmushi, kake soba, salad, fried white fish and a bunch of fresh nigiriEvery single piece of nigiri was absolutely amazing but we definitely had our favorites which were the A5 wagyu, hotate, Kanpachi, chu toro and uni.The chef really ATE... like he put his whole bussy into each sushi like we were clapping and mmmming after each and every bite like omgService was really great too. The servers were extremely attentive and so nice! They took away all the empty plates and bowls very quickly and it made our experience so greatI highly recommend to anyone looking for some great sushi because the omakase options are great and sooo worth!! I can't wait to come back hehe

This place doesn't mess around with its omakase. Its premium omakase, which is actually one of the less expensive omakase, was excellent. The quality of the fish was great, but what really impressed me was the portion. At most places I only got 9-10 pieces of sushi and related items, but this place gives you 16 pieces, plus miso soup, salad, chawanmushi (steamed egg custard), warm soba noodles, and a dessert. My wife and I felt somewhat full just half way through our course. Just when we thought we were done, more stuff started coming out. Just before our dessert, they offered us another sushi of our choice from its premium omakase list (items in white had no additional cost; green ones were $5 extra). So it actually ended up being 17 pieces plus all those other items mentioned above. Service was prompt and omakase items came out at a good pace. It will be hard for me to go somewhere else for omakase after trying this place.

To start off, I would say that the ambiance and the food quality were great. We had ordered the $90 Omakase Sashimi Luxury and we enjoyed every cut. However, I would give this experience a higher rating if our service was better than what we had.I was confused as to why this was considered "omakase" because when we ordered this, they placed all of our cuts onto mini plates and stacked them onto a tray over the bar top. We didn't know what to do with the trays because we thought that they would be presented little by little, like how omakases should be, from what we've experienced at other places. Regardless, we asked to make sure, took the trays down, and ate our sashimi. When we finished, they took the trays from us but the thing that threw us off was the lack of prompting. After pre-bussing our tables, we sat there for another 30 minutes with no indicator for whether we had more coming or if we were done. We had to ask another server if there was anything else, just to confirm, and he said that the last thing we had left was ice cream. To think that we sat there for 30 minutes just for "ice cream", we were pretty annoyed for the blatant waste of time and even then, we ended up waiting another 10 minutes for nothing more as well because I think he forgot. We were fed up and didn't want to wait any longer so we asked for the check, paid for our bill, and left. I just don't understand how the service was lacking in terms of communication or prompting. We kept waiting for cues to see if we were done or if there was more to the omakase but the fact that we had to ask for our check as well made us feel like the entire experience was not worth the money.

Celebrated our yearly early Christmas dinner ritual. Bff and I visited a familiar sushi spot and splurged in some delectable dining experience.A hidden gem in La Habra, Akafuji is a medium, trendy, bar-style sushi spot, with a classy/casual ambiance. Missing in the picture is the blue crab handroll and 1 nigiri... went straight to my mouth :)We got the omakase special- 8 pieces of chef's choice nigiris. I got an extra octopus nigiri and black cod (TY!). No fishy taste, melts in your mouth, and rice was perfect. It comes with a salad, dessert, & miso soup so we just ordered an extra miso. We also got scallops and some sashimi, shishito peppers, Chilean seabass, & a large sake. My favorites are otoro, black cod, seabass, and the sponge cake dessert! No wait time, seated at the bar, multiple chefs are working happily, friendly staff, clean, reasonable amount of wait for food. Omakase can take a little more time but we splurged on other items as we waited. Akafuji has been generous to us last night giving us "on the house" extra 2 nigiris, another plate of their sponge cake dessert (fkn delicious!), and a 15% off Manager's special! Don't know what we did to deserve it but I told them we've been a big fan and complimented the sushi chef at every nigiri he served- because it's that good!If you're in the area, it's a must try! Highly recommended

(4.5) I've been wanting to try Omakase for a while, and this spot lived up to the hype based on the reviews. I made a reservation in advance and was seated within five minutes of arriving. The interior is modern and cozy, featuring a large central bar for seating and a few tables on the side. One thing I noticed was the atmosphere: lively yet peaceful. Great spot for you and your partner.I chose the premium luxury Omakase, which included 16 pieces of premium sushi, 4 pieces of premium sashimi, house salad and miso soup, monkfish liver tasting, scallop tasting, tempura, clam soup, oyster, Japanese egg custard, and ice cream. At $95, it was an incredible deal! The variety of exotic, high-quality fish really made it worth the price. Each dish was delicious in its own unique way. It was a fun experience tasting the different textures and sensations of each fish. Some of my favorite bites were the raw sweet shrimp, otoro, uni, and oyster. The otoro was divine--it melted in my mouth, leaving a rich, luscious, and oily texture from the fat. Absolutely sensational! They also had truffle ponzu soy sauce that you could drizzle on top, it's really good!A few things could have made the experience even better. At times, it was hard to hear the chef announce the name of the fish, so a printed list of the courses in order would have been helpful. There were a few fish I wished I knew more about. Also, some bites had a bit too much wasabi for my taste, causing that strong burning sensation through my nose. If you prefer less wasabi, it might be worth mentioning to the chef in advance. I really liked how the last piece of sushi they let you decide what you want. There were serval fish that had $5-$8 up charge due to its luxury. But, I chose sweet shrimp as my last bite and it was great. The dessert you have the option for lychee or yuzu icecream. The lychee really was the perfect ending. It also came with the moist Japanese egg bread that they make in house!Overall, this was an amazing value and a delicious Omakase experience!

Saw this place on Instagram so I had to try it out. And we were blown away. Surprised I had not heard of it before since it's been around for 6 years. Prob one of the best omakase I've had. First off, the service was superb! Our waiter noticed that my husband was eating the cucumber salad and he continued to bring more cucumber salad several times even when we didn't ask. It was great! The omakase prices are really amazing! I couldn't believe how full we were when we were done. Plus they gave a free encore price! The area is small though, mostly bar space but nice intimate situation. We live this place and will definitely be coming back for more!
