Great experience throughout my undergrad degree. I've been going to the SHAC for nearly 4 years now for all of my healthcare needs. I've utilized everything from the pharmacy to therapy to nutrition. Everything is easy and student focused. The staff and doctors I've seen have been very attentive and understanding, and services are always quick to schedule and quick to respond. Would recommend for all students at UNM!

Pretty efficient and amazing considering it's a UNM clinic.I've been coming here for travel vaccines, but I've been watching how the place operates in general, and it's pretty great. I've never seen any ridiculously long check-in lines (although they have a setup for it, so I can imagine that at certain times of the year it can get that way). The staff are pretty quick and knowledgeable, and I've never had a real frustration with anyone like all too often happens at "real" doctor offices. The pharmacy is great - always quick and very helpful. Prices are good and they do their best to help students out.Everyone has been great about explaining things to me when needed, and I've never had a true issue here.My one complaint - which honestly needs to be addressed - the guy who has drawn my blood twice puts a glove on one hand, rubs alcohol on my arm, then uses his un-gloved finger (which I have not seen him in any way sterilize) to prod for a vein. Why he bothers with any alcohol, I have no idea. I should never have let him put a needle in me after that - and I won't again.Anyway - great place, but watch out for un-sterilized needle sticks!

Not worth it. I entrusted my care here and they screwed me over and stabbed me and my wallet in the back. Here are the problems with the SHAC: --unable to bill to insurance (probably because of the assanine rates they charge which the insurance rightfully so refuses to pay because they are so exorbitant). --doctors are not adequately knowledgeable about psychiatric medications; Shac put me on Ativan, a highly addictive benzodiazophine, for nine months, way longer than the recommended time, consequently putting me on Ambien to get me off the ativan. This technique is unacceptable in the world of modern medicine. --shac makes paying for visits with flexible spending account inconvenient. You have to have the doctor give you a recipt after your appointment or else you won't be able to pay via a flex card. --Shac makes law abiding students and patients sign contracts and submit to drug testing to make sure we are taking our medications, especially adhd medications. I get it they are addictive. But this is why you get a one star review, Shac. Unless I'm on probation or just committed a felony, then I can understand the drug testing. But for someone who is trying to get the prescriptions filled, I don't appreciate being treated like a criminal when I have done nothing wrong and am treated as though I am trying to procecure extra medication. Give me a break. One star.

The staff that was assisting with scheduling and gathering insurance information was quick and efficient and helpful. The doctor I met with was absolutely not. Medical discrimination is real and alive and I was treated as less than and absolutely not helped for what I needed, in fact, the first thing I was told by the doctor in question was that a check up for a "regular healthy adult" is not necessary because adults know what's going on with them so they don't need to just come in for a standard check up. That was the first thing I was told, as the premise of this visit, basically implying that my visit was unnecessary to begin with. Regarding the questions I had concerning what was going on with my body, the doctor, an older woman of European descent, did not know anymore than I did about it, and had mentioned that I would be seeing another doctor in another place a month from now but wanted a professionals opinion, and she did not give any professional opinion, and kept repeating that I would be going to the other doctor, so that was good. It was an absolute waste of my time and insurance to do this visit with this particular doctor and I will never make the same mistake again. Hopefully the other doctors here are nothing like this!

They never informed me that I owed them over $300 from a travel immunization appointment over two years ago, at least not until sending my bill to collections at which point interest was charged, not mention insurance couldn't cover it (would've been nice to know beforehand...). Plus I had labs done for what was assumed to be celiac, still never heard back from that PA two years later. This is the most unprofessional and non-communicative clinic I've ever been to.

Love this place. I've been seeing a few doctors here since I became a student and I'm way happier here than I've ever been with any other doctor's office. The waits are incredibly short, they usually have room for walk-ins, the staff are generally knowledgeable and helpful. I've only had a few experiences here that I was less than happy about, but the majority of them have been great. Even when they didn't accept my insurance in the past, it was only like $15 for an appointment, which is less than the copay for any office I've been to. This is definitely a good option for UNM students who want affordable healthcare.
